View Full Version : [10 Box]: What classes should I add to a 5x mage team?

So, i rolled a 5 box undead mage team (i mostly went with 5 mages for the simplicity.) Now the mages are 64, and I realize all the content i'm missing out on, due to no heals and no tank, doh! (My primary choice for these were pvp, and i can't wait for WotLK and mirror image ('http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=55342') ... Starting a 5v5 arena with 20 mages casting frostfire bolts and 5 water elementals is going to be an experience to say the least.)

So, logically, the only thing left for me to do is evolve my 5 box system into a 10 box system ;)

Question is, what class makeup do I add? I'm leaning towards a paladin and 4 shamans. With that in mind i could run 5 man instances with the paladin / shamans, PVP with the mages, and attempt 10 man instances with all of the above. I'm aware of the benefits for this makeup, but does anyone see any inherent flaws with it; anyone have any suggestions for a better addition?

Thanks for your opinions!

why not just level up two new chars to 64(healer/tank)?

going to 10box seems a bit drastic, but thats just me =0. (I mean, to solve the content issue). I would probably just level a 2nd group, and then mix-n-match. as a bonus, you can always move the characters to separate accounts later.

I would think, just from what i've read/heard and from logic, wouldn't a serious 10-man team need 2-3 tanks and 2-3 healers? (Well, at least classes that can respec into those roles.) You might find the thread where nixi talks about kara helpful. I also always figured that if you did take 10-maning seriously, well, that it'd be kinda convenient to have each team function in 5-man content. Eg, have the ability to field two holy trinity groups, just so you don't have to take the one tank to instances twice when gearing up the 'other' group...but then again, im lazy, and really wouldn't know.

You need to actually gear up your pally though, he is still sitting in lamesville!

To the OP, if you want to 10box, I'd go the pally and 4 shammies as well, or you could roll another 5 mages for extra lols, or do the 8 mages 2 priests like tasty.

Ishar was on the right track I reckon two holy trinity groups so you can do anything you want. As for pallies it may not be so bad rolling a druid or warrior or deathknight but we'll have to wait and see. Also valk .... bite me :P Kurmit owns you

Im pretty sure my hacked and stripped pally is still better than Kurmit!

I started with the paladin and 4 shammans last night. Only at level 17, but i'm liking the mix so far - I just got home from work and plan on leveling them to 28ish tonight. I figure spending some time leveling these guys will give the mages a change to rest up some bonus exp.

I have to admin though, 2 Holy trinity groups does sound tempting, especially with all the WotLK content coming out.

Again, I appreciate your guys' feedback!

What about 5 warlocks? 5 DOTs each x 5 = 25 DOTs. Plus 5 mages, no mob can really stand that long.
The pets can tank, and granted, they will die eventually. But the mob will go after each pet sequentially, before finally turning to the warlocks / mages.
or 4 warlocks + 1 druid for AOE healing.

If you did the Refer-a-friend thing, you can grant yourself two insta-60s, which means you could add a tank and healer very easy and only have to level them to 70(80).
