[shamans] which gems do you prefer and why?

Hi guys,

i have seen a lot of highrated (single players) shamans with only +10spellcrit gems.
why does so many multiboxers have the +6spelldmg/+5spellcrit gem instead of only +10spellcrit (in yellow sockets).
can you list me the pro's an the con's of the +10spellcrit and the +6spelldmg/+5spellcrit gems?
(i have also chosen the +6spelldmg/+5spellcrit gems fo my shamans, but i don't know why :D )

I have spelldmg/spellcrit ones on my shammies. Although I prefer spelldamage above spellcrit, so I'd rather socket them all with pure spelldamage rather then pure spellcrit.

In my opinion

Spelldamage > Spellcrit/Spellhaste > Anything else

Basically the logic is that the higher your spell damage, the greater the chance is that you will land a kill on the insta.
Spell crit does nothing for your instacrit nuke..

Personally, I think that until ~900 spell damage you should pursue spell damage mainly.. when you're 900+, you can consider spell crit.


When looking at it on paper, spell damage seems like a superior stat in pvp. However, there's a great factor that speaks for spell crit: surprise.
If you get 4 lucky crits with a round of lightning bolts, you may very well kill some classes, and they don't see it coming.

So the big pro of spell crit is its unpredictability. As your spell crit goes up, your damage output is more and more unpredictable, which can generate a good amount of kills when your insta is on cooldown.

spell crit and dmg gems
why?
because insta gib isnt everything, as ppl at high ratings, no matter how much spell u have, they wont go down sometimes.
for every 6 spell dmg, i have 5 crit rating.

u may say crit is a undepredictable stat, but so is pretty much everything on wow, specially arenas.
i prefer having more changes to happen this http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=16164 , than having more spell dmg.

just my opinion. but yeah, i've seen many ppl with 12 spell dmg gems as shamans. in pvp.
