View Full Version : Clarification on gifting generating levels

When I first started posting here with questions, I asked if the levels gained by receiving gifts generated gift levels themselves in return and was told no they don't.

Recently I've seen people stating the opposite on threads.

Ok, let's say I run a standard 4 man chain of linked accounts A>B>C>D, with my main X account unlinked to boost with.

My first set of toons makes it to 60, so all 4 have 29 levels to grant, and I start a new crew, and run those 4 to 31.

So the new crew has generated (3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31) 15 grantable levels each to this point.

I then use granted levels from my initial crew to push three of the new crew (A, B and C) to 60.

How many levels do the three new crew toons on A, B and C have to grant? 15 or 29? I was told it would be 15, but people's recent comments imply it's 29.

If it's 29, that means in the time you can run one team of 4 to 60 and 3 teams to 31 I could end up with 10 60s (4 on account A, 3 on B, 2 on C and 1 on D) and a boatload of abandoned 31s.

I saw someone ask recently but don't recall if it was answered, is there anyway to verify how many levels a toon has available to grant?

You can't grant levels from characters that were themselves leveled using granted levels. Go to the wow forums and there is a huge sticky in -I believe- the customer support forum on all the details of how RAF xp bonus and level granting works.

This is the question closest to what I was asking:

Q: If I created a new account using Recruit-a-Friend, upgraded the account and used the Paid Character Transfer service to transfer my level 60 character over, would it then be able to gift one of my low level characters 29 levels?






A: No, gifting levels are earned as you level on the RaF account. A character that leveled exclusively on the RaF account would be able to grant a total of 29 levels by the time it reached level 60. For example if you transferred a level 30 character to the RaF account for every 2 levels that character gains on the RaF account you would receive 1 level that you could gift to the veteran account until level 60 giving you a total of 15 levels.



But I'm not looking to transfer an existing 60. The question is if receiving gifted levels is considered "earning as you level". From a coding standpoint it'd be simpler to just flag the "you gained a level" to add one to the "levels to gift" variable or set it to "(new level-1)/2 rounded down".

Anyone done this either way?

By the way that FAQ does note that there is currently no visual indicator of how many levels are available. I won't be wasting any granted levels on my "keeper" toons to check it, but it might make sense to level a couple test toons to 8 or so, then gift some new toons and see if they can gift in turn. Bad news is my time is too limited for anything but leveling keepers right now.
