View Full Version : Any other boxers going for Nether Drake

So i finally got my 5 x epic fliers (going to take a ss this weekend and post it later). I also have my nether ray fliers (well sort of all i need is money to buy them then i can use them, will get that money today doing dailies). I really really want the nether drake flier, so i started the quest line yesterday. It wasn't that bad to get to neutral, the only hard part was the elite guy that you have to kill for the last part of the quest. He was easy to kill but it isn't a share quest (like an escort quest) so i had to click on him for all my guys, the down side to this is that as soon as you start the quest the guy spawns, by the time my 4 other toons clicked on him and got the quest my pally already agroed. Instead of doing some dps with my pally to gain agro, i started shooting bolts. Here is the bad part, you cannot taunt him, so once you lose agro you almost cannot get it back. Got him down to about 10% and wiped. Pop back up and took the guys into a building (to get away from the archers), started the quest with my pally and got him into the building, this time the pally had time to get agro... took him down in 1 min or less.
Anyways, after this i started the daily quest to get the mount. And guess what 2 out of the 3 dailies are collection quests. One of the collection quests is just a pain in the ass cause you have to find a flier land on a rock and by that time hopefully he is not out of range. Here is the down fall to this quest, you need to collect 10 of these things which are at a rate of 1/3 (not that bad), but this is the shitty part (when i want to dismount i just mount again and that dismounts me. but it doesn't work when i am in there cause i am technically not using my flying mount. by the time i get my guys close enough to the ground to dismount using there lighting bolts the mob is out of range). These guys are a pain and after about 30 minutes and only getting 4 things i called it quites. The other collection quest was a pain in the ass too. The drop rate on those are about 1/10. The good thing is that sometimes it drops 2 at a time, but you also need to get 30. I found a nice place to farm these, where there isn't any down time, but doing it last night on 5 guys took me 2 hours. The last daily isn't that bad, it is sort of collection (kill mobs to use the item against other mobs), you need 15 glands, but only 1 toon needs to have the 15 glads, so when you poison with the glads everyone gets credit. the worse part is that these quest only give 250 rep... only at 750/3000 rep now. At least at friendly i get some nicer quests that give 350 rep. But only getting 500 rep a day it is going to take me 4 days just to get to friendly. Just pissed that they made this epic flier so hard to get and the nether ray a joke to get. With the nether ray you could at least kill mobs that give rep.
So just wanted to know if any other boxer tried to get nether drake.

I didn't do this because of the collection quests and it looks like they are giving out drakes left and right in the xpac so I'll try for one there

I have several issues with the netherdrake thing.
once you are friendly with that faction you can never kill another netherdrake. My shaman that is doing leatherworking needs huge amounts of dragonscales and now I can't farm them.
Second, I got my pally up to 70 and so I thought I would catch him up with my shaman and guess what... you can't help him kill anything on the quest chain, so it's essentially impossible to help my pally catch up. All I can do is have 4 healers stand there and heal him while he fights these things.

dragons are cool like that
i've been doing netherdrakes, and i'm about 1/3 past revered atm
there's about one group friendly daily that opens up per rep level
really you should be able to get exalted in two months or less
- poison peons
- killing nethermine flayers
- booterang
- disrupt twilight portal
- greatest trap ever
You can still get your scales, just skin the drakes in Blades Edge Mountains. Those drakes have a decent drop rate for the scales while skinning.
I'd go for the drake. Yes the first couple of quests are a pain but once you get a little rep you open up more dailies. Many of them are fantastic for money. There are kill quests in the mines, the booterang (which all get credit for, and with a good macro you don't worry about a CD on the booterang). If any of your alts do professions you can get herbs/skin/ore for those dailies.
I do recommend skipping the the drop quest for the tokens that drop off the flyers. Those have such a bad drop rate and x5 would be terrible. On the other hand, you only need to gather 12 pieces of fel meat from the mainland, since all your toons get credit if they are close together while you poison the camps. Between Kill quests, profession quests, the booterang and the poison quests you should make out like a bandit $$$ ^^

kill this ('http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23267') guy, he will drop a non-daily quest which is worth 250 reputation (everything counts right? with friendly you have access to the mines, with those quests the grind becomes relatively comfortable)
for your netherwing relics just camp at that wooden runway round about here ('http://www.wowhead.com/?maps=3520:759805'), departing transporters spawn shortly after their predecessor despawns or gets killed. you may just have to wait a bit for the first one.
there is another ('http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32726') non-daily-dropquest, but afair you have to get to friendly first. and it would be a pain to farm as a multiboxer, i guess.
you could also fly around and search for netherwing eggs. try hilltops, the walls of dragonmaw fortress etc.

I've had 5 netherdrakes for prob about 8 or 9 months now.
Just don't do the collection quests, and rotate teh eggs you find through your characters. Not that bad of a grind tbh.
If you do the collection quests to start it only takes a few days of pain to get to friendly then some of the other ones open, you can scale back and just do the easy ones and you'll eventually hit honored for even more to open up. I've been on hold at friendly because of brewfest activities.
They may be handing out drakes in Wrath but I want my black drakes so they all match not to mention an extra mount for the 50 mount acheivment, lol.

honestly i like netherdrakes more than the regular drakes
I have been doing ALL the netherwing quests (yes, including collection quests).. So many to kill so I can collect for all five but the chance of egg drops increases as well. It's not so bad when you get used to it. I spend about 2.5 hrs a night to get netherwing done, including crystal farming. I usually overfarm crystals in case i get lazy the next day then I don't have to collect 50 million of them. I also get about 10G in gray items per toon (x5) after clearing the mines quest. Also, if keep a few glands extra on another toon in case the peons bug, only if you're doing this quest.
Xar - we'll get your mount tonight... ALLAKHAMOUNT!!!!

peons bug,
This and those stupid elites that walk around. Those elites are way too over powered. I had a tough time killing one, i dropped 4 earth elementals and dps the hell out the guy and when the battle was over there was only 1 elemental left. Why did they make this guy so strong.
So my new count on days if i only do the dailies is 13 days (not counting today). Currently at honored right now (1/3 in). This is not counting the one time quests that i will get at revered, which i am thinking might that off 1 day. This is also not counting the defending the scryers and aldor base, reason is that pally is aldor and shams are scryers so they will attack pally if i do scryers. I'm trying to keep everyone at the same rep doing this is a pain too cause i only did the first 2 in the follow the leader flying thing. I know that i can probably do the third, but after doing the first 2 back to back 5 times i got sick of it.
The 30 crystals isn't that bad. I found a good grinding place for them, the funny thing is when someone tries to come into my grinding spot, i switch from killing and looting to just killing back to back, that pisses the other guy off and he leaves. It takes about 2 hours to get 30 crystals for each toon and probably get about 3/4 eggs during this time. The hard one is collecting the crates in the mine. There are not that many of them around, and during peak times it is a pain in the ass.

I won't - the mounts are too large and annoying when single players sit on top or near vendors and such. I won't be someone who annoys others like that.

I just followed Suvega's guide to dailies to make money, not really caring about the mount itself but before I knew it I was exalted with Netherwing, SSO, Skyguard and Ogrila. :P
Edit: I hit exalted with CE last night and am thinking about going Engineering, Skyguard, CE, Netherwing and Gryphon mount across the 5 guys. 8)

grats... CE is my next step.. only like 1k away from revered with the team. The thing is that i don't know what i want to do with this grind. Do i just grind before wotlk comes out or do i wait until after release then i can probably grind to lvl 71/72 to get my mounts. This is good cause it will get the noobs out of the starting area and make questing easier for me... Well i by the time i get my netherwing up it will be like 2 weeks before release anyways.
I think the order that i like the flyers are the phoenix (which i will hopefully be able to grind at lvl 80 with help from other people), CE, Nether drake, nether ray, and then basic. I have some money saved so i will probably be buying the extra mounts (to get the mount when you have 50) and just have a macro to just use a random mount.

are you 100% sure though you are going to stick with the shammys in WOTLK? I flip flop a lot between rolling 5 new DKs or sticking with shamans. Eventually I want both, but what do I focus on first...
I just don't see there being enough time in the day to focus on more than one team for at least 6 months, after all every moment in game will have something to do.

I just don't see there being enough time in the day to focus on more than one team for at least 6 months, after all every moment in game will have something to do.I know what you mean... i really want to bring a druid into my team and maybe a death knight. I love having all the mounts the same, and if i bring a druid in and death knight, i will probably will not do the grind for the nether ray, nether drake, and CE mount. So those 2 will be the odd balls, but i like the look of the druid epic form so that just leaves the death knight.... who know maybe they have a cool racial that i will like more.
I will most likely bring in a druid when i hit about lvl 75, 1 reason is that the boom skills are crazy with the sham totems and then i can do the epic mount quest every day until i have the special mount that drops from that guy instead of looking for a druid everyday to do it. Plus death knights are looking better and better everyday. Also say 75 cause by that time my pally can easily clear all old world instance (she can do that now but schol and strat will be cake walk even more), and be able to do most of the BC instance. Probably grind till around 65 then just rest them or see what happens (like i said going to be like 2 months before i even really think about this).
The question is, what accounts do i put these toons on... lol, by the time i get to 75 (probably 1 month) i will have a better understanding what to do.
But i really want to do end game stuff and don't want to jump around with too many things, want to get my guys to 80, pick one of them and focus on that guy and on down time gear the others.... thinking it will be best to focus on a tank (druid, pally, knight) this way on down time i can solo heroics without a problem cause i have a well geared tank. (It's like taking a sunwell geared pally to a heroic. You really don't have to worry about losing agro to a group of sham in half epics). Other good thing about tanks is that everyone always needs them, but might go either pally or druid cause when they do dual spec i can switch to healing, which is the second most wanted.
