I'm wondering if there is an addon that would ping the mini-map whenever a new gathering node shows up, seems like it would be really useful and if there is a ui event when a node pops up it would probably be pretty easy to set up too.

I don't believe that would be possible.
The game would be able to make a sound (one would assume) when a node was in range, but not ping it's location.
To do that you'd need something that physically scans the minimap for the dot, then pings on the dot, much like botting programs do for fishing.

I suppose that would work too, anybody know of anything that does that? Really just looking for a heads up that one of my slaves sees a node so that I don't have to have both mining and herbing on main and constantly switch between the two trackers.

The best thing I have found so far is to just install cartographer and have it show all mining/herb nodes for all your toons. Then you can just check each node as you run by it. I have a different gathering profession on each of mine, and have yet had a problem finding nodes for any of them. Be sure to download cartographer complete, it includes all the modules and nodes known in the game.

To me, herbal nodes tend to me more subtle than mining ones, so I have herbal tracking on my main toon and mining on my second for when I'm just running around questing but want to gather nodes I run by. I glance at my second toons minimap occasionally but don't think I'm missing much ore just by keeping my eyes open (I have also set the distance view settings to the max detail level on my main toon).

When I get my flying mounts it would certainly be nice to have both tracking nodes up on the same minimap, but ofc you can't do this even on a single toon.

It looks like just running dailies and just buying mats is the most effecient path for multiboxers by far anyways, to be honest. With 5 shamans, I ought to be able to make about 750g in a couple of hours, which is a lot of mats. Although I did level up my herb and mining cause I hate leaving nodes in instances behind.

Though some of the info has fadded me, but a blue responded to such a request, and stated that a: if an addon did this it would be a form of unfair advantage. and b: the addon is not possibile to be made for the fact addons run locally and the node would have to be local for it to be able to do such a thing, and the nodes are server side and though tend to spawn in certin areas often, they spawn at random.

I would ask yourself how much open world farming do you think you are going to be doing. I have herbing on my main, mining on a clone. I see nodes all the time in the open world and just fly past them. I don't think it is worth your time to be running around with 5 toons picking herbs or mining on one. You could be making alot more gold from doing quests or dailies or instancing. I mainly took up the skills for getting the nodes that are in instances.
