So who all has had a problem with the game disconnecting clients to the login screen since patch?

Your not alone. I'm having it as well, and its very annoying, and froms earching the net it looks like its at least fairly common.

What exactly is happening to you?

For me..

The server disconnects 1-3 (sometimes all 4 "box" clients) to the login screen. There is no lag or anything, and I can simply enter my password and log back in within 20 seconds. If it happens in a fight however, or when your zoning in to an arena though .. :-(

It does this fairly often. Every 3-15 minutes or so, although sometimes it can go for quite a while with no problems. I've also noticed it does it a LOT in certain locations. I've been doing Mechanar, and the elevator there is insane. Almost a gauranteed 2 disconnections anything I get near it. Could just be random, but sure doesn't seem like it.

I've tried checking all files, swapping routers, disabling all add-ons. Nothing works.. It's done this since the patch.

SUPER annoying.. Doesn't stop me from playing, but annoying enough to make me almost not want to :(

Pretty much the same thing. I've tried all of that aws well and am pretty certain it was something that was changed in the game, possible with the autofollow change.

Hi,
I do have the same problem and the cause is the autofollow. I am not sure if it is a bug or a feature but I don't expect bliz to fix this. You can work around it by setting up two macros:

1.) follow mainguy. Hit the macro so every toon follows your main and IMMEDIATELY start moving your main.
2.) "unfollow" mainguy. Setup a key so all toons stop following the main guy: for me it is the move backward key.
As soon as you stop with your mainguy hit the unfollow!

The disconnects happen when the followers get into that "walking mode" when following. I have no clue how bliz messed up their source code for this to happen but my guess is that the 2.1 client keeps adjusting the position of the follower and that leads to huge data traffic.

Anyway,
follow only when the main guy is moving, unfollow as soon as he stops.
Hope this helps,
Bunny

WoW has always had a flood control method. If you send too much data to the server FROM A SINGLE IP then it will disconnect you.

It seems like they screwed something up though and it sends too much data - leading to disconnects.

I am just now getting around to testing autofollow. It certainly sucks (more for some classes than others) but it does not seem to hurt my mages much - most all of the spells I cast in combat are instants. If anything, it will help me spread out a bit more and make me less susceptible to aoe spells.

Further testing is needed though.

After a long weekend of playing a whole new team on my shiny new four box setup (upgraded from 3 on Friday night ;) ), I have pretty much the same observations as you guys.

>follow only when the main guy is moving, unfollow as soon as he stops.

I have a "formation" button set up, which sends one of my characters to the left, one to the right, one backwards, and leaves the "master" standing in the middle (i.e. doesn't move him at all).

Obviously, that has the effect of breaking the /follow.

I didn't tend to use it very often, other than for visual effect, or when I wanted to park the team somewhere while I send the master in to collect the next batch of sharable quests.

Interestingly, I started using it alot on Sunday, getting into the habit of hitting it just before I open up on my next target, and I had ZERO disconnects on Sunday and Monday, after having had several on Saturday.

Fluke? Maybe. Something to try though.

I hope that helps in some way.

Most annoying, though, is that I've managed to get characters "stuck" in walk mode after coming off follow, and only a client restart fixes it. That happened twice over the weekend :(

"stuck" in walk mode
You can fix that by selecting any target and /follow it. Then immediately move the toon to break the follow again. That fixes it.

I did that, and it popped out of walk mode to follow, but fell back into walk mode as soon as I broke follow. I also tried mashing the walk/run toggle to no avail.

Having said that, it seems you had some success with it so I'll give it another go.
