I've been corresponding with Rob to try and remedy this problem, but so far we haven't been able to figure it out. So, I thought I'd appeal to the community here to see if anyone has any ideas.

Problem: When switching one of my slaves into my main window (F8-12 keys on my setup) both the master and slave will see their framerates drop to unplayable levels (<5). I have to typically either exit all 5 WoW sessions or reboot. It doesn't happen every time. I can play for a couple hours without the problem before it occurs or it can occur on my first window switch. Extremely frustrating.

I run 5 instances of WoW on a single monitor. My setup is an AMD Athlon dual core 5600, 4 gigs of RAM, and a GeForce 8800 GTS card. When playing normally I sustain around 40 fps on my main. Settings in keyclone are Maxfps 60 and Maxfpsbk 15. When it doesn't happen my performance overall is just fine.

My booster (usually in the last slave window) has a full set of addons. My four boostees have a fair number of addons as well. I'm not sure if my addons are at fault (either the specific ones I run or the volume).

Anyone else have this anomoly? Extremely frustrating obviously.

Well I would try taking one add-on off at a time and see if its causing the issue.

I run as few addons as possible, they are resource hogs(Well some of them).

Problem with that approach is the variability of the anomoly. It doesn't always occur, so how to know of the 20 addons I have running, which might be the culprit? Hoping someone may have solved this before having to take the step you suggest.

When playing normally I sustain around 40 fps on my main. Settings in keyclone are Maxfps 60 and Maxfpsbk 15. if you are normally only getting 40 fps with your maxfps set to 60... this means your system is at 100% cpu/gpu usage and cannot push any more frames.

try setting all wows to low detail (use these macros: http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Macro:Graphics_Settings )

and also set your maxfps to 30 or 35 on each wow. (you should always leave some cpu left over in case there is a spike in action/usage)

another thought... what resolution is your display set to? 1280x1024? 1920x1200? the higher the res, the more pixels your system has to calculate for each frame... and the more data that gets pushed around. lower usually == less work for your system

next, what is the game resolution you have the regions set to? (i'm not sure but there might be some resolutions that could be optimized by blizzard)

good luck,

Rob

I have the same problem, although it is uncommon, and only happens when I run 5 copies of the game.
4 or less it never happens, so I am assuming its RAM related.

my system is completely different, Q9650, 9800GTX, 4gb ram, oc'd to 1589FSB.
I gonna pinch 4gb out of my other machine and test it soon, so will report back when I do.
edit: bit more info.

I run 1 full screen, 1920x1200, max fps possible, usually around 40fps
the other 4 are on a screen the same, locked to 30 fps
when this happens, only my main screen drops, and drops to about 10fps, if I switxh them around, still only my main one drops.
