View Full Version : The best thing about new multiboxers and the expansion

Even if your 3-4 months into multiboxing still trying to gear out your character, or your a fresh one leveling up, there is a big ray a sunshine on the horizon for everyone.
Expansion means gear resets, lvl 75 blue quest rewards will start replacing Season 4 / T6 gear etc, by the time you hit 80 a full suit of quest rewards will be far superior to anything currently in the game. This means EVERYONE is on the same starting ground. The expansion is only 6 weeks away, were all equal :)
Shameless plug, Ellay: If you're a new multiboxer, come join us on the Burning Legion (Horde side) :D

Ellay, you actually said just what was on my mind. I started 5 boxing about a month ago (roughly) thanks to a confluence of events: The announcement of Wrath's eminent release, finding this site and Keyclone, RAF, and fond memories of the Sams in EverQuest. Honestly, I haven't really bothered with my Rogue since I started boxing. And I forgot all about WARs release until a few days ago, I never actually picked up my preorder. LOL. I enjoy the community, and I can't wait for Wrath.

I just started boxing about 2 weeks ago, and am having a blast. Great community you have here! I too bought WAR, and can't be bothered to play it.
Having a caring and loving girlfriend has also borked my progress, but I'm enjoying the hell out of my 5 troll shammies (currently 43).
Current plan is to get to 69 and eff around there until the expansion comes close. Then ding and get as much of their S2 pvp gear right before the release to have something to get me through the initial surge in WotLK.
Then I'll have them join my lvl 70 paladin ( currently parked ) and get to the instancing.
Cheers!

I just recently hit 70 on my 4x shamans on alliance side. Still considering rerolling horde somewhere, just seems like the thing to do with time left on RAF

I've been reading that most of the t5 and t6 gear wont be replaced till lvl 80.

makes sense, my priest didn't replace any of my T2 gear till i hit 70 and started getting a few upgrades. none of it was worth breaking up the full set for really.

I can tell you for a fact that T6 gear will be replaced by blues around 74ish..ill look for some links. maybe not all..and depends on if you can get yourself some blues. But ( set bonuses aside) most level 74-75ish blue is better or on par with t6 in wotlk.
http://thottbot.com/wotlk/i44443>>http://thottbot.com/i31020 as an example. I know the T6 has bonuses..but i would wear the blues over it.

Can't wait till expansion. My friends and I (11 accounts in total) aren't even going to waste our time in Kara and other 10 man instances. Not worth it to grind those and then head to Northrend to get a green item that replaces my purples :P ATM I not even for sure I can afford the expansion... ;( Awhile back I just got myself caught up and I don't think me or my credit card can take another hit.

Pretty much the only real advantage will be normal BG honor; saved arena points reset but BG honor will not.
Looking at Burning Crusade, a new to 60 toon in mostly greens, with the odd 50th-60th blue piece, had absolutely no difficulty leveling in BC to 70th.
Sure, level 60 purples would be an edge, but greens allow for quick leveling, especially considering focus fire of multiple toons.
So whatever your gear level, if your toons are 70th for opening day of WotLK, you have an equal chance as anyone else in the march to 80th.
At 80th, everyone will have close to the same level of gear. Level 80 quest rewards will be superior to the current top arena/raid 70 gear.
The only advantage from BC to WotLK will be the ability to immediately purchase a few pieces of low-end (BG) pvp gear for your 80's.
That's assuming you PvP, if you're on a carebear server like me and exclusively raid/instance the field will be level in basically all regards.

Normal bg honor is getting reset when you hit 71.

Normal bg honor is getting reset when you hit 71.I'm pretty sure honor is getting reset with the patch, not when you level
They do it so people can't stockpile honor then buy all the awesome new PvP gear as soon as they hit 80
They did it with BC and they're doing it again

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that it was indeed level 71 or 70 or such. This way they won't screw over the poor casual level 10-69 follks who have been PvPing as they level. ;) They should still be able to buy the level 70 PvP honor gear with their hard earned honor.
Of course, I'm not sure where I saw it, but Ellay's statement sounds familiar.

Bg honor will be reset at the release of the expansion - no indication that level matters.

Arena points will be reset when you hit level 71.

It HAS to be at lvl 71, because not everyone will buy WTLK, so why should they suddenly loose their honor ?
Hell, people are still playing classic WoW. Should they reset their honor aswell ?

Excerpt from the blue post:
In order to make the transition from The Burning Crusade to Wrath of the Lich King flow as smoothly as possible, all accrued honor points will be reset at the launch of the expansion.
It certainly sounds like honor is being wiped regardless of your level.

Im all for new gear but Ive just hit 70 with my shamans and pally. Here's my predicament. I play PvE i dont mind at all getting gear from instances its fun but I wont bother farming badges Im guessing even bagde gear will be outclassed by lvl 75 quest gear. My main problem atm is reputation. I just dont know what to do here. is it worth grinding any sort of rep or will all the reputations go the same way as the steamwheedle cartel (*spelling soz) or timbermaw rep. Am I wasting time if I get Outland rep past honoured ? Honoured only for the heroic keys to farm them at 80 for DCs and AH sells.

So..
What how much time will it take to get a multibox to 80 ?? Are we talking months or weeks or days ?
Is it true it will take 1 week per level even if u play 8ish houers per day ??
How long ya expect it will take for a Normal playtime versus someone playing 12 houers per day

The gear reset is meaningful mostly if you manage to keep up with the crowd. After all, the playing field was level at the start of tBC. :)

Nope it's not that bad to level, it's a little bit slower than 60-70, and they are soon making 60-70 take about half the time.

I wasn't thinking about leveling per se (although our server had level 70s about four days after tBC went live), more about the time a player will invest. Time will always be a factor in MMORPG progression. At least they seem to have the PvE/PvP gear sorted out this time, so it won't be as easy to raid your way into PvP dominance. That should help out a good deal.
