View Full Version : 'Desynching" issues when boxing

This issue used to happen to me even when I was noob boxing 2 characters on different computers at once using no macros or help other than /follow

One character (sometimes more, but it's usually just one) suddenly will cease to see any updates for another until I relog that toon. I call this "desynching" because the server stops sending info about one toon. This never happens to me with other players, only with my own guys. When this happens, the apparently missing character will still be following as normal, able to heal and attack targets, etc. The character who can't see won't be able to interact at all. This problem rarely resolves itself without a relog. It happens often enough that it's a serious issue. Never in an instance yet, and way more likely if the characters get warped, like that quest in SMV where you warp up to control the fel reavers. Sometimes it's corrected when I warp back down, but I had to relog at the top no matter what. I'd say that for every 2 hours I multibox, I require one relog, usually of the main screen.

The desynched character does everything as normal except will see the "missing" character sitting at its old location at the point when it happened.

What do you think is happening?

Hail fellow Garonian! :P

Im not sure what causes this to happen but when I 1st started my shammies it happened a couple times on Azuremyst island. Ever since I have been off that island I havent had it happen again.

Im glad it hasnt resurfaced, cause like you said it was a major pita!

It seems to be more common on weekends like when the server has more stress. I also get this with mobs, but I figured everyone did. Where you kill a mob and you can't loot it because it never appeared to move, even though it did. Once again, none of this has ever happened in a raid. Just plain weird.

I get this occasionally as well, and usually I just run the assorted toons away from each other (far enough that they wouldn't normally be able to see one another) and back. this usually takes care of it, but sometimes (if I'd have to move them all away from each other ) it's not worth the trouble, so I just relog.

The mob things has happened more often than my toons getting desynched. When it happens I just run my toons over to where the mob appears to be standing and proceed to kill it then. That way when it dies I am close enough to loot and I dont get that "too far" message that pops up.

I've had both, the mob issue can be "fixed" by running far enough away that you can't see it then run back, the mob will then be in it's "correct" place and you can loot/skin whatever. With the character issue, I haven't found a fix, other than to relog on the character that isn't seeing all the others.

I have found that any kind of porting will fix the issue. using a hearth stone or running into or out of an instance. Maybe taking a flight path (which is how the problem usually starts for me). It occured to me that /console reloadui may also fix it. It may force the client to ask for new updates for the world.

If /console reloadui does the same as /reload it will not fix the problem. This has been experienced by several other boxers the best thing to do is to log off on the offending char then relog in. As long as my clones can see my main for follow/targeting purposes I don't care if my main can see them. Usually it works it self out after flying somewhere or hearthing. When this does happen It is usally after flying or hearthing. This has happened to me a couple times in AV where the clones can't see the main and that sucks big time.

Happens to me maybe once a week or so, normally after taking an FP. A relog of the char affected always fixes it.

What do you think is happening? If you can't see the unsynced character how do you know it's not happening with other players? Maybe unsynced players are coming up to you asking to give you gold all the time but since you can't see them they just leave and give their gold to other players...

The solution to this is to take the invisible toon and run them way the hell away, then come back. Once you leave the sphere of awareness and come back it all syncs up again.... of course, this is often easier to simply relog.

It's easy to spot it, since the character stops moving on my screen but is still actually killing things or healing me. Considering how often it happens to my MB party, it must be something to do with playing off of the same location that makes it more likely to happen.

I have been able to fix this by switching zones / sub-zones on all characters. I run a mod heavy UI, so my load in times tend to suck. I find this to be the quicker solution at times. If i am below mount level or too far to justify zoning, I just re-log.

Generally the only time I can fix this is by relogging the desync'd charactered.

I feel better knowing that this issue isn't just affecting me.

The one area that I have this happen to me ALL the time, is when I hearth/recall x 5. Oddly enough only my main desyncs, he still thinks a couple of the guys are wherever we hearthed from, but the clones all see each other and the main fine. I fixed this by using my hearth/recall button, then after 5s i move my main slightly, then hit the button again, so he hearths 5s after everyone else - this gives him time to see their updated location before he then hearths. The problem was stemming from him moving at the same time as them, and losing sync.

It only happens when I'm hearthing on the same zone (outland to outland, azeroth to azeroth, etc), If I go across zones it doesn't have the issue.
