View Full Version : Starting to 3-box on 1 computer (Pally/Hunter/Shaman)

I've been 2-boxing my 70 mage and druid on 2 computers using multibox without broadcasting, so it was more playing 2 characters at the same time than actual boxing. Yesterday I picked up a third account and keyclone and spent an hour getting it all set up.
Initial performance test with my 2 accounts and a test account, as well as some fooling around with maximizer:

Yep, I managed to get 60fps on all 3 even with one in IF and one in Shat. I was impressed, and decided it was time to go out and buy that third account.
So here were are after picking names, looks, and a choosing some mods:

Since I'll be able to see all three at one time, I figure I can do a lot to clean up the UIs. I'll remove everything except one or two hotbars, the exp bar, and a chat window set to only display tells. I'll move the exp bar in the top-right window to the right edge just to make it look better.
I used CT_Viewport to black out the sides of the bottom window. Makes a great place to put mods so it won't clutter the window. The unitframes are the default PitBull frames, but when I have more time I'll go and tweak those a bunch.
I didn't play a whole lot, just did the first quest in the starting area to test out follow/assist macros and spread out/collapse key bindings.

Top 2 screens only have Omen and Bongos. I've since added PitBull just so I can hide all the unitframes (any unitframe mod should work for that though.)
Bottom screen currently has Omen, Bongos, CT_Core/Viewport, SimpleMiniMap, FuBar (with some plugins like money display, quick chat locking, a clock, guild/friends lists, etc,) and PitBull. I have a billion mods on my main character (SS here (http://www.kadaan.com/images/screenshots/WoW/WoWScrnShot_102507_205445.jpg)), so I've been moving them over one by one so I just have the minimum I need.

You mean the titlebars? I use maximizer for that.
For the main window I have:
margin = 480,30,0,0
Moves the top of the window down 480px and the bottom up 30px (so it's not hidden behind the task bar)
For the top two I have:
margin = 0,570,0,840 and margin = 0,570,840,0
So the bottom of the windows are 570px up from the bottom (ends up being 480px high)
At first that just stretched the windows out, which made the bottom window really really ugly. I found in another post here that you can set the game resolution to pretty much any value in the config.wtf file. So the two top windows have:
SET gxResolution "840x480"
and the bottom one has:
SET gxResolution "1680x570"
Just don't change any video settings in-game, or it'll reset the resolution and you have to re-edit the config.wtf files.

Slightly updated layout.
Removed the unitframes in the follower windows, removed the map for the hunter and moved the shaman's to the bottom right. I have herbalism on the shaman and mining on the paladin, so I can see both tracking maps right next to each other.
It's working pretty well so far, up to level 12 now. Once I finish the Draenei starting zones I'll see how I fare in Deadmines :).

from what it looks like, I believe you are using only one monitor, and not two. May I ask what resolution your monitor is to be able to fit 3 screens like that clearly? :)
Thanks

CT_Core if I remember correctly...
[edit] Nope, it's stand-alone still ;) (last addon)

How do you show your main window on bottom and 2 clones on top? I'm going to start 3 boxing soon and that looks a lot better then buying another monitor.

did you not read the thread?
You'll need WoW maximizer
If you had not already found this out, check this thread.

I just included a step-to-step tutorial on how to set your 3 boxing up.
This also includes a link to WoW maximizer and how to set that up :)
