So I tried Arena!

With the recent news of no epics from BGS. I've decided to give Arena ago. Prior to this I've played arena with my druid for 10 games and my mage 10 games a very very long time ago. I have close to no experience with it.

I just created the team and joined up. I found that even with elemental mastery up x5 I could not burst down any single target until I lost quite a few games. Once I lost about 6 in a row it got to the point that people were no longer 2 shotting my toons and the fights actually had some length to them and became interesting.


I won twice, the first time I have to give credit to the Peasant Caller trinket it. It freaked the team out they really didn’t seem to know what was going on. The “awe” of it gave me the edge I guess lol. The other one I won I lost 2 of my guys but ended up slowly killing the last player which was a hunter. Water shield 4tw since I was oom on all.


I’m going to continue to play it, just for the free gear factor from it. Did you do as bad your first time in there? I must admit I need a lot of practice it was going very fast paced and normally in PVP I’m very claim and have control. In there all I felt was stress .

With ~330 spell damage, I'm surprised you won any games.

With 5x Elem you will lose to most teams. I run the same with slightly better gear than you have but lose to anyone in full S2. You won't do "good" in arenas until you get full S2 + epic offset and run 4x Elem and a healer friend.

You know I was thinking about trying resto x5. I have like 650+ healing which is double my spell on my guys, that and lets think about it.

5 Earth shields and 5 grounding. Dispel, purge and all that good stuff is not a problem with the grounding totems (as much). Melee will freakin hate it. All you would have to do, is earth shield up, place you totems. Go afk have a smoke come back and hope it went like that Simpsons Episode where homer just stands there taking the punches until they fall over from exhaustion lol.

when you think about it arena is much easier than the BG's. you can do your 10 games in about an hour maybe a little more.

Go for your weapon first, either thru arena or BG's.
Do the Alterac Valley until you have the head gear and the gloves, if you do the AV quest chains you can get a trinket that lets you teleport back to your base, which can be lots of fun to gank the side trying to kill your boss.
you can get the head gear and gloves from AV marks so just work A/V for a while.

I was going to get the boots and I need 40 eye of the storm tokens.
to get 40 eye of the storm tokens ( which alliance on my BG loose 95% of the time ) is really more or less 40 long battles and they are apx 30+ min long each.
you get some good BG love from others claiming it's your fault they lost ( although when I solo box the same BG I find alliance still looses 95% of the time ).

Per say you only get arena points once a week and you can farm eye of the storm until it's done.

Hah hah, Gratz on winning 2 playing all 5 shamans with such low spell damage. I think I went 0 for 20 my first two weeks, ended up wining a bunch the 3rd week because I'd run into teams that either wouldn't play or would just exit out of the arena. I think once your rating gets low enough that becomes more common. So you have that to look forward to ;)

Right now I'm stuck at .500 with a 1500-1570 rating, but I've always 5-boxed the shamans in the arena so I usually need some luck on my side (or need the other team to make a serious tactical error) to win.

S4 is just a mess right now anyway. In the 1500s I'll go from teams with a mix of blues and s2-s3 gear to nearly full s4 teams back to back. I'll armory them and see they have a 2100 rated 2's team or whatever. And yes, it is hilarious when I fire off 5x ns/el/trinketed with 1000+ spell damage chain lightnings and it doesn't kill the full s4 warrior. doh. (my fault, gotta rememeber to purge)

You'll probably want to grind out a S2 weapon/shield asap, then grab the s4 gloves with arena points. Since you're probably getting 300ish arena points per week you'll probably only be able to buy 2 arena pieces before the expansion comes out, so I wouldn't worry about it anyway. Well, unless you're really good and somehow manage a 1500+ rating your first week at 70 like someone here. ;)

Not bad at all ive at 3-17 with pretty much the same gear but i got the merciless shield thought! :) Done some arena before but never 5vs5 and the lag when i got aoed nearly shutted down my computer.

Also i faced a team with 4 taurens (Hunter,warrior,shaman,druid) and a belf pala! QQ :) got 3 stomps in my face and a aoe silence then feared :(

All while i got hammered from 3 guys with bloodlust! Only lost 4 rating each match thought :)

My buddy was telling me his "elemental resto" hybrid was incredibly durable... I'm considering trying it once I hit 70 to see how it plays out...

Of course my gears not going to be anywhere near that... Though I am sorta suprised that @ 70 you don't have higher damage, I suppose you have to sacrafice for resiliance though...

Its gonna be hard to run 5 restos in the arena even with NS.. You will never be allowed to drink while theyr healers can swap on drinking while a warrior/rogue is keeping you constant in combat or a warlock/mage dooing rain of fire or that ranged ice aoe. Bad teams will always be bad teams thought so it might work but i have a hard time understanding how! :)

thanks guys, well that's a tad pick me up, but I kinda of expected to be in the 1200 range so at least I managed to get above what I set out to do!

I was saving my marks and honor for the new XPAC but they are taking those away too. I'm still on the fence on if i'm going to buy the xpac with the BG gear not being epic still in question. Also the new information about required ratings for gear. Once a blue addresses those questions i'll have my answer.

Until then things are kind of paused right now. Worst case i'll use this time to farm a ton of gold and give it to guild members :D

You won't do "good" in arenas until you get full S2 + epic offset and run 4x Elem and a healer friend.I wouldn't say that, highest I've reach with my 5xShaman were 2030, unfortunately arena hasn't been too kind with the 0-5 point wins and 25+ point loses, so im down to 1888. It is definitely possible to play with 5xShamans without a second healer, but ofcourse you will reach a point where you will have to get one if u wanna be great like Aellie or Calebx. :)
