The Most Difficult Part of Multiboxing is...

... picking the names ;).

Picked up a third copy today and registered KeyClone. Gonna do a Prot Pally + Hunter + Shaman (not sure on spec yet). I wanted to do Pally+Hunter+Warlock since those are the only 3 classes I've never gotten to 60, but I wanted to stay with friends on Alliance and none of the Alliance races can be all three. So Draenei Pally/Hunter/Shaman it is.

Now comes my dilemma: picking names!. I'm trying to think of names that obviously belong together without the typical "a-b-c" or "one-two-three" suffixes, nor the illegal special character replacement (yes, it's against the naming policy to use ñ ù â etc, on US realms at least.)

It also gets tricky finding a set of three that are all unused, as I absolutely refuse to mangle names like the 5-billion permutations of "Legolas." Personal pet peeve ;)

Trying to find something that's not "funny now but a pain later" (although for $30 I could always change them...) Got ideas like "Bobthewise" "Joethewise" and "Timthewise" (three wise men, get it? haha!) :P. Tried looking up mythological triplets with little success (why are there so many twins but no triplets?)

So, anyone with "unique" 2-3-4-5 box names, mind sharing to help get my brain working?

I actually forgot about that, hmm. I'm already kinda set on three characters with the exact same model (I realize gear will make them look different.) I guess I'd be okay with having the main (pally) a different race as long as the two followers were the same.

I was thinking how to call my draenei guy and since he is looking old and wise I decided to start thinking from "Profet" (not "prophet" - thats not 1337 enough). So a bit later I have called the draenei Gankprofet, and mages: LuvProfet, DesProfet, KulProfet and OldProfet :)

I like to pick names with a different starting letter for all my chars so that mail auto-complete pulls them off my friends list with 1 key. For the shammies it will take 2 keys, but I like that the names are logically organized.

I also followed Xzin's suggestions about creation time:
Kutator < Kitator < Ketator < Katator < Iaggo

That way my pally main appears first in the group and the 4 shammi are alphabetical. If I spec one resto I'll do Kutator so that the main healer is the last char in the group.

I have a couple different approaches to names with my 6-box setup in DAOC. I typically have a main with the variation of the name "Nisch", which is part of my last name. I've done the ABCDEX route with my rangers: Aynisch, Bynisch, Cynisch, Dynisch, Eynisch and Xynisch.

I also named similar ways...with my 4 bainshees: Lifreen, Lifreem, Liphreen and Liphreem. That way, if talking over vent, they have a hard time with saying which one to target.

I also made 5 wardens recently with the names: Encephalectomy, Hydrocephalitis, Encephalitis, Hydrocephaly, and I honestly can't remember the 5th name now.....which is the point..........hard to pronounce when talking in vent.

I really prefer the similar sounding names though than the ABCD.......route. Confusion is your advantage.

I'm relatively content with my boomkin name setup...I call 'em Eteeo, Eteo, and Clees for short lol; I don't care for the gobbledydook names with abcd but fullnames with numbers at the end work just as well to confuse people to some extent and still makes targeting a painful process since they have to type the full name rather than the first few letters.

I work pretty well with names. It is an RP server, only one report so far was for my main priest who had the name Ludacrits at the time, while Ludacritz was fine. I worked out a fine FlagRSP for a mining skinning male orc warrior, with a great RP background, put things together out of his background and profession to make a name for him being in a word-name concatinating mood at the time and it ended up Diggernicks. I might have to rethink it.

My new duo, shamans, are Windführer and Oprahwinfury. People instantly said "You're going to get reported/suspended", I don't get it. It's a legit german noun meaning leader or sometimes guide, naturally he is the guide of the wind - down his arms when windfury procs and so on. Hmpf. People are messed up.

I think this depends on the server you are on. If you are on a German WoW server in the EU, you are unlikely to have a problem, since what you are saying is correct. 'Fuehrerschein' for example means driving license. But in the US, or even on English EU servers, that is different. You can expect people there to associate the word with the context they are most likely to have heard it in, and that is in WWII movies and used by the Nazis. That is not exactly an association you want when you are trying to immerse yourself in an MMO, in particular on a RP server. =]

I have used names for psychological warfare on twinks, one shaman I named a childish way of saying "sticky fecal matter" in Swedish, and it worked wonderfully when faced with Swedish opponents who read the name, they had trouble targetting and mouseturning the moment they saw it, some simply stopped in their path. Then it got reported.

So I named it Nintendowii instead, now nobody can get me.


If I reactivate my accounts I will level my warlock duo as seen in my signature. Those are some effin names I tell ya.

My wife is a champ when it comes to naming toons. I can give her a class and a race and she will knock out names like .. boom .. boom ... boom ... but sometimes .. the names are taken .... it suxs ... but that is when you pull out character map :thumbsup:

You could make a variation of names in Greek mythology or something like that, exchanging small
parts of the name with similar sounding WoW terms. I can't come up with anything clever before
8pm in the evening (when I am fully awake for the first time of the day), so I can't give you any
examples.

Or you could make names out of sentences, like.. Pillarabuse, Makez, Gnomescry.

Naming is hard. First shot at it I went with 5 cities near me - Lakewood, Gardena, Torrance, Lomita, and Redondo. As I fooled around with other teams I started to run out of available city names in socal, or maybe I started a trend and they all got snapped up.

I went with the whole The good the bad and the ugly thing, variations on there names:

2 shaman and 2 druids named them; UglyTuco, Angellice, Blundee, and ShamnRamirez.

Since there was Tuco, Blondee, Angel Eyes and Father Ramirez :) what can I say it was my favorite movie.

Did 4 DK's and named them after the d'Artagnan and the 3 Musketeers, Arthas, Porthos, and Aramis. Though it was made out to be more girlie since 3 of them where female draenai.

My team of Pally and Shamans where Phoebus (sun god also know as Apollo or Helios), and the shaman are all different shamans in various shaman beliefs.
