Fresh 70 perspective vs geared out Aelli's
I've recently hit lvl 70 on some 4x Shaman alliance side. Instead of playing a bunch of classes I didn't enjoy, I went with the same class just a different BG and the opposite side. I still Arena with the Aelli's don't worry :) They hit 2151 this past weekend.
Upon hitting 70, first things first were to do the Kara quest line (which is no longer needed to gain access, but I needed to run the instances anyways for reputation to hit honored. Afterwards farmed Mechanar until 4 Totem of the Voids dropped (still use this item on my horde). At this point I'm sitting at 7.3 hp unbuffed with the full Seer's set and roughly 116 resilience.
From this point on it becomes an honor grind as all items will be filled from pvp activities. Obtaining 8k honor my first purchase is the PvP trinket. An additional 4k later and I am done with the weekend grind and want to get my 10 games in for Arena Points before it's all said and done.
6 wins - 4 losses, 1526 rating. This was also with an extremely geared out priest healer Suvega (whom most should recognize here :P )
I just want to point this out as a drive, or expectations some might have. Once you hit 70 it is just the begining, gear plays a huge and crucial part in sucess and a fresh 70 won't make it far until a baseline of gear is obtained. Hopefully I will manage to chronicle my adventures a little more detailed, but at this point in the game with S4 being out I'd shoot for 9.5 - 10k hp unbuffed is a requirement to be effective without gear being a determining factor in a win/loss scenario, at 7.3 hp and 130 resilience, Ret Paladins were able to windfury me in down from 100% hp to 20% in 1 swing.
The good news for my newly made Shamans and the rest of the community out there, S2 gear is obtainable with honor which was not a luxury I had in the past - so gearing out is that much easier and can be done at any pace you desire since honor points are rewarded instantly instead of weekly :) The big question then pops up, expansion is less than 2 months away - what is the point? Well the point or drive for me is that I hate losing with a passion and do everything I can to min/max my characters, I see that it will be obsolete in 2 months and replaced by better looking shinies, but that doesn't change the current atmosphere so I drive to improve my character.

Good stuff. I too hit 70 with 4 Shaman and a Pally and I agree with everything you said. The one thing you missed though is obtaining the marks required to get the PvP gear. Getting 20 EoTS marks with crappy gear is aggravating to say the least.
And on my BG (Stormstrike), the Alliance is soooo pitiful. All they do when I join is follow me around and gawk or argue about the finer points of multi-boxing. So I tried to solo each toon in EoTS to get the marks and that was even more painful as the Alliance loses every match with an extremely rare win. So I figured if I'm gonna lose every game anyways, I might as well lose on all 5 to get my marks.

Grats on the second set of shamans.
Are you planning on playing 2 set of 4x shaman? Or are you going for a smooth transition from horde to alliance?
Edit; 5's more active in that BG? I know it has two large pvp servers in that BG. Love the names, never would have guessed. :P

What battlegroup you on? Ruin is tough as hell. I just did my first 5v5 with a druid healer yesterday. We won 2 and lost 8. My guys have some decent gear however, we were fighting people in full brutal gear. I dont know what the problem is on Ruin but it seems like every match is against some AHOLES farming teams for gold. About 4 of the 10 matches were against people with similar gear. The other 6 were jokes. Also we went up against the same brutal team twice which sucked.

Grats!
I have set of 4x Shamans, they are currently 68/67, and I have been having a blast owning the 60-69 BG bracket.
Its nice not to not have to fight anyone with honor/arena gear, although I'm seeing some 69 "twinks" with the Epic engineering goggles (only require L62, wtf!). I may just stay at 69 and farm honor, which will be saved up until WoTLK.

I got another question and anyone may answer. Do you see a huge difference between Orc and Dreanei Racial wise? In my case the availability of healers to try out/replace is much higher alliance side. Horde side just doesnt seem to have a nice crop of healers to choose from ymmv.

Has anyone heard anything from the beta testers as to battlegrounds? I just wonder if it's all going to stay the same for gear rewards or if Blizzard will come up with some sort of new plan for PvP. I've only recently gotten into the whole BG PvP thing after having been playing for four years now (wow). Growing up on PvP servers was good enough for me. And I still can't believe that they changed the rules to allow transfers between PvE and PvP servers. Times always change I guess.

HEH, this makes me feel so bad having been 70 for 4 weeks now and I haven't won more than 2 matches in a week. Granted I'm running all 5 shamans right now instead of a dedicated healer. I hope this is the problem as opposed to me just plain sucking.

Grinding honor is also rough I agree, I haven't touched WSG yet - only 1 AB (hated it) and pretty much just sticking to AV until I need marks.

When they all focuesed a shaman, they would plow threw him even WITH pain suppresion. Silly sauce indeed.

I may just stay at 69 and farm honor, which will be saved up until WoTLK.
The thing to farm in 69 BGs is *marks*, not honor. I would consider playing a bunch of WSGs and maybe ABs at 69 to get a small bankroll of marks before you ding 70. Honor farming in AV is easy and fun at L70, even with undergeared folks.
For both my Shaman and Hunter teams, the easiest places to win with Freshy-L70-n00b-gear are:
AV
EotS
AB (highly variable here, as well)
WSG (distant last)
You can't go wrong with a "Farm AV Honor and play the others only to get marks" strategy. WSG particularly will be very painful until you have very good gear. Even then, you may struggle to do better than 60-65% win ratio.
Also consider running BGs using a 4-man or less team or using AV Preform to queue yourself. If you Join As Group with a 5 person team in AB, EotS, or WSG, you will be put into a separate queue which will a.) take longer and b.) guarantee you are up against a premade. Bad idea. Queuing with just 4 seems to place you in the "normal" queue, which might also be a preform/premade, but at least it's not Blizzard doing it for you.

I had a question that's related. I realize at 71 Arena points are wiped. But If I started a arena team now, would I have enough time to buy the shields? If so how long would something like that take provided your under geared guys as a base for ratings? I've never done Arena really, I hate playing ring around the line of sight. But hey for gear it would be worth it. The question is do I have time?
Thanks

You got about 2 months until it's expansion times so you should be able to buy at least 1-2 pieces of gear before then making minimal points

since honor points are rewarded instantly instead of DAILYArena points are granted weekly, honor was daily and is now instant. I believe he's talking that you can gear with S2 gear for some pretty solid PVP gear without having to depend on arena points which accrue at a very steady rate.

ThanksS3 Shield requires an 1800 rating. (I made that mistake last season -- and it still has a rating req. bs).
Oh and I just read that Honor points / Arena Points / and even Honor Marks are getting reset once you hit 71. (wow forums down so I can't link it, but it's posted on wowinsider)
