View Full Version : /follow focus macro causing random 'lets run into mobs!' effect

Hi all. Currently I box 3 hunters and am having a lot of fun with that. However, there is a problem.
My main's forward key is set to 'E' and I set him as the other 2 hunters' focus when they log-in.
The macro is:
/follow focus
And it's set to the 'E' key, too. It works well, but sometimes(and far too often for my liking) one of the hunters just breaks follow and runs forward, grabbing tons of mobs and it takes a lot of effort to get him back.
Any ideas?
Any help appreciated :)

I 2 box with a tank and healer for pve and I get the same problem. I have a key setup to auto follow, and another key setup to turn left so the healer will stop autofollowing and hang back and heal. 99% of the time it works but then there's the %1 of the time when, for no reason that I can fathom, the healer just won't stop and runs straight for the mobs.
The only workaround I have is to be aware that this will happen once in a while (it's not that often really although it sucks when it does happen) and to quickly tab over to the healers window and STOP the toon.

Whilst it's an annoyance now, it's tolerable because I'm playing solo. But if I were to ever be the 3 dps slots in a group and one of them just runs forward...not so nice, lol.

Is the auto-run key passing between windows?
Do you alt tab, then alt tab back to your main window then experience problems?

I've only had that problem in very laggy areas.
I *think* what happens is this:
For performance reasons each WoW client will project where other characters/mobs are. So the server sends a message to the clone client that the main character is moving forward at a certain speed and it also executes the follow command. The clone client predicts where the main character is moving and follows the main character. For some reason the clone client never got the message that the main character stopped moving and keeps projecting a new position and following to that position.

I don't use auto-run and never alt-tab. Keyclone all the way :)

So you're saying this is essentially something all software-boxers have to deal with and there's no fix?
That would kind of suck, but it's understandable(in the way your explained it)

You might want to check to see if your slaves have anything bound to "E" or to any modified E keypress (Shift+E).
I know this will change your setup, but you might want to use the normal w-a-s-d keys, and then have them set to keyclone's do-not-pass list.
You'll also want to put all variations of mods with the w-a-s-d keys into the do-not-pass list. (Shift+w, Alt+w, Ctrl+w, etc.)
Use an alternate button to set the focus to your main.
I haven't had a "runner" since I've changed to this setup.

Thanks, I'll go through my set-up tonight with a [Fine-Tooth Comb] :)

I get runners occasionally when trucking through a bunch of mobs and the 'main' gets stunned or trapped.
I don't use roads, I ride straight line through mobs and pull an aggro train. Start killing only if stunned/dismounted/etc ... : )
It's like the followers don't realize the main isn't moving anymore. It's not a lag problem either, because the toons just keep going in a straight line forever and never stop.
In my leaderless setup, I have the WASD as the primary movement keys for all toons and the arrow keys as secondary movement keys for all toons.
I use a KeyClone strict whitelist, and that passes only the arrow keys for movement. (among other things.)
When a mob starts fighting in the middle of my follow group, or if I want them to stay put, I press the down arrow and they all back up and stop following.
If I need to turn them all to face something, I'll use the left and right arrow keys.

this happens to me when i mouseover the smaller window while pressing a command meant for the main toon.

This is a known bug. HUGE thread over here. ('http://dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=1652') I'd recommend keeping discussion there so as not to clutter things up.

FYI, the "runaways" problem happens for hardware boxers as well.
Suvega and I have been able to repro it as such:
(100% repro) While moving forward, stun the "main" -- watch the /follow'ers continue running in their forward vector.
While mashing various keys in a panic situation, press the /follow macro. Watch as the character continues running in a forward vector.
Some people had hypothesized that it was a problem with a particular piece of software, but at least in the two instances above I've experienced "runaways" as a full hardware 'boxer.

I dunno, I had this problem daily 1-3x an hour before, I was running Keyclone with PIP/Maximizer and 5 wow windows spread out over 3 monitors so I could see them all.
Last week I switched to Octopus, and collapsed all my WoW windows so they are right on top of each other. I keep one alt on my 2nd monitor, since hes usually the herbalist so I can see them on the map and grab em.
Since I switched, I haven't seen the problem once. ever. I don't know if its because I have all my WoW windows on top of each other or because of Octopus or because God loves me, but just for what its worth.
My FPS also jumped up significantly since I no longer show all WoW windows on screen, and now I just bind F1-F5 to hotswap between my wow windows (and also F1-F5 is set to /focus <person> and /promote <person>), its simplified my MBing a great deal. Really ask yourself whether you need to see all your toons on screen at once.
