I just want to point this out. I find it kinda funny that when all these threads are talking about WAR vs WoW vs EQ or whatever, that they all praise WoW and call the other games crap. I mean in the top 5 threads you can find people comparing all these games that are 4-10 years old now and the truth of the matter is they all brought something unique to the table. EQ as some of the best PvE content and history made, yes they failed at pvp but raids and groups where awesome. WoW made MMORPGS more appealing to younger groups due to the fact that it was more cartoonish, and then they added arena so the older players could have a pissing match and feel better then others. Warhammer looks like it might be a good game. Its bringing the Public Quest and RvR. Those that dont like the graphics seem to be wanting the cartoonish style vs a more realistic style.
Anyways that is just my little vent about all this. What it comes down to is every person is different so they are going to like different things. To say one is better then the other is like saying apples are better then oranges .... its a personal preference so lets quit all this bashing and dont state your opinion without at least giving it a try.

This sort of behaviour goes way beyond MMORPGS.
It's basically my X is better than your Y.
It happens over computers, consoles, cars..... in fact over pretty much anything.
People want to feel they have made the right choice - thefore look for justifications for why they made their choice.
Nothing is going to change it.

I guess its to much to ask for most people to stop following the herds and become a Shepperd

[Samuel L. Jackson]
Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.

You can never go wrong with at Tarentino quote :-)
Reminds me of a toon called "Taurentino" on my server, in a guild called <kill Bull>
They call it "le" big mac.

I agree about EQ2 PVE content. Amazing in all honestly. I really like how they have PVE setup as well. Also the fact taunt works in PVP is something interesting. All roles are pretty easy to manage. It was one game you could tank or heal and not be completely on edge but rathe relax and have a good conversation with your group. Really a shame about the PVP system. Had they (and continue) to copy and paste the same exact fail system on any game they release I would have no reason not to be there.
What confuses me the most is they have a long track record of complaints about the system, yet they copy and pasted the same system on Vangaurd and wonder why no one plays it? Good thing they have their electronics to carry them is all i'll say.

HayliannaSorry to tell you this, but it's only going to get worse with faster communication and easier ways to search for information and people.
To put it simply:
Effort of finding agreeable opinion << Effort of considering disagreeable opinion
Throw some human nature and ego on top of that.
Compounded by Consumerism where compromise means you're not getting the most "value"
Welcome to our glorious future.

the only thing wow has contributed to the MMO market is training a generation of young gamers to believe that PvP is about the acquisition of tangible reward, rather than the satisffaction of killing your enemies.
the more popular wow became the more popular it became. people started buying wow not for enjoyment of the game, but simply because of its popularity and lack of well-funded competition. wow gets greedy and decides to try on a pretense of being a PvP game. now we have young players who have gained their PvP experience in an arena/battleground environment and dont know any better. these are the current generation of gamers that MMO devs are marketing to. its sad. even the so-called "PvP" concepts being developed are watered down with the hope that even a percentage of bored WoWers will stick around and leave their credit cards pumping.
i wonder if another publisher will ever have the balls to step in and try to fill the shoes of games like old UO or (the greatest GvG experience ever made) shadowbane. battlegrounds? try logging in your spec characters with 15 groups of your nation brothers (and sisters) and rolling up in walk-mode while you load your enemies city walls. 15 group leaders in formation, protecting your trebuchets from people trying to flank you. 8 hour epic sieges while you burn your enemies walls down and finally smash their lines until the ones not dead turn and run - and die anyway. seeing your nation tags replacing theirs, where their city used to be, on the world map. or just burning the whole thing to the ground and selling the location to another guild.. because, after all, you didnt really want the city. you just wanted to burn their house down because they smack talked you in world chat (oh my god, being able to communicate with your enemy? whats the world coming to? surely we need our MMO's to censor the world so we dont all die from having to think for ourselves?).
i really feel sorry for people that join queues and run around in circles for some "points" to get their name on a list.. and then call it PvP. in my day that "list" was called a community, and if people knew your name it was out of respect..coloured with a healthy amount of hate, of course =). on servers with 5,000-10,000 players every player knew every guild/nation tag on the map. everyone knew who your allies were and who you hated. when you attacked someone or killed their leveling groups, you had to calculate if your nation had the strength to ignore the threats that would come out of it.. or be prepared to watch your hard-earned cities burn. "factions" (Lol) were called POLITICS. and they were decided by who you liked and who you killed. they changed constantly when a guild would break away from a nation because of some disagreement or other.. and usually join with its enemies out of spite.
now people download shadowbane, log-in for 3 minutes and complain about the older client and the lack of pointless, glowing shoes and scripted "instances", designed to give you a safe place to prove your "skill" slaying your 9,999th computerized dragon for a new pair of shoes with a slightly different colour glow. like a baby that cant think past a mouthful of milk to see the gorgeous creature attached to its dispenser.
meh. end of an era. /rant. i hate wow and everything it represents. if i cant break your epics and burn off your silly rabbit ears, i can at least burn your eyes with walls of text.

Likewise, while there are some nifty features in some non-WoW games and there are some much better mechanics for aspects of the MMO (such as old frontiers RvR in DAoC, IMO), that doesn't negate the fact that the animations and general fluidity and liveliness of the environments in WoW far, far exceed that (and most other) game's execution.

I hate the mindless zombie-esque "fanboi" type as much as anyone, but if people never complained about sucky things, what would be the incentive to advance?
