View Full Version : Brewfest quest in BRD
So anybody any luck with that brewfest guy in brd? I simple dont seem to be able to get him down :S, very frustrating. I tried standing on 1 on the barrels, standing in a corner, nothing worked. If i get too close with my tank i get too much dmg to the group, when i stand to far away, my group gets too much adds, mweh! Anybody with a neat trick to down this boss, those trinkets are too cool to not have :).
Update: Oh finally got the fucker down for the first time. I placed my guys in the little allcove and stood about 20y away from them, and now i at least was able to control the adds bit :). Luckily i didnt get any troubles with the barrel on head thing this time :). But i got the 84 healing trinket which at least makes up for some drama!
update2: aah i think this is the trick, the alcove and the killing of his little healpers, if i got his little helpers down it saved me a whole lot of trouble, biggest problem is mana after you also get his adds! Sweet easy loot

I downed him with my four shammys with my lock tagging along, I just nailed him with a ton of dps and dropped four earth elementals.

Suvega and I farmed him 19 times yesterday (yay altaholic-ism). My 65-hunters were able to summon him, and we were able to down him with 4-manning it.
Here's the trick:
One person tanks him, just because you have to do some rather tricky moving in and out to avoid the cleave. In hindsight, this may not be necessary -- the pushback from the digger device never TURNS your characters, and I was able to LB from the back of the room all the way to the front. So you can just let this happen.
2 shammies DPS -- heroism when the 2nd girl comes out. Ignore the adds or lay stoneclaw totems. I found just laying searing totems helped aggro the adds so they wouldn't pound too much on my healer. If the healer gets 3 adds, CL the adds to get them off and/or kill them. One volley of LBs will kill the adds. I find doing a CL will pull the adds off the healer, then your searing totems will finish them off.
Resto shaman healer just spam heals on tank and make sure to chain heal off yourself if you get too many adds. If you get 3 adds, make sure the dps shammies throw a chain lightning on them to get them off.
5th place can be a "carry". It's easiest with one more dps shammy, but we were doing fine with a 65 hunter, 65 resto druid, etc.
/use Dark Brewmaiden's Brew
The trick here is to make a macro to use the mug the girl throws at you. It appears in your inventory, and if she throws two at you (meaning there is no room in your bag since it's unique), she will start disorienting people. Pop heroism when the 2nd girl appears and rush to burn the boss (ignore all the adds). (I believe the 2nd girl who throws barrels that disorient shows up at around 20%)
MAIL IS OVERPOWERED. Every time we tried this with a priest healer, it would pull aggro on the adds that pop out of the little drills in the ground and die. The 65 resto druid pulled aggro on the adds and died. RESTO SHAMAN WEAR A SHIELD AND MAIL -- the adds tickle. If you get alot of adds and are too lazy to get them off, just throw the ES on your healer.
NEVER let your healers/dpsers get in range of the boss when he cleaves. It hits for like 7k.
Basic idea: Keep tank and ranged seperate, bring healers/dps that can take a few hits from the adds, abuse searing totems/stoneclaws to get initial aggro on the adds (they will literally run around killing them all). If your tank is being played by another person, they can run and pick up spare adds when the boss cleaves. Heroism when the 2nd girl comes out -- make sure to put a macro on your spam button that /use's the mugs she throws into your inventory -- a disoriented tank means you should drop earth ele's or chain heal off yourself. SQUISHY HEALER = BAD. The healer WILL pull aggro on adds eventually -- either keep the adds off or get a less squishy healer.
Suvega and I are farming it again since we only got one kodo mount. :/ The trinkets are not DE'able, we found, so my dps shammies now have healer trinks and the like. :P
In any case, since we're farming it today I'll see if I can fraps it for you.
I love you typed that whole story, appreciated, very much appreciated!
Must admit, by never noticed the girl threw those mugs and you could use them :). Atm I created my fairly sound/Los-proof tactic which is popping heroisms and when the troubles starts, or if it starts, press elementals. But its hardly needed unless I yet again fail to take notion of my health pool (which i sometimes forget, being used to get heals in raids/party right now).
Pretty nice you can do it with a '5th', my dps is too low, or my mana pool is too low to let me be able to do that right now, but awesome you can. Hope you guys get lets of kodo's!
And so true, mail is OP, did it today in a pug with just me tanking, but the restal druid got popped so so so quickly it wasnt funny :)

Los-proof tactic which is popping heroisms
With the number of alts we have, Suvega and I are looking at about 20 attempts per day. With each attempt being about 3 minutes long, we want to save heroisms so we have one each try.
That being said, I've uploaded the video. Once it's done processing you should be able to see both 4x shaman + tank, and 3x shaman + tank (carrying the 5th).

Vyndrees post pretty much said it.
I added /use Dark Brewmaiden's Brew to all my toons dps-macros, spread them out (like 5y from each other and 10-15y from the boss+tank) so they still would be close enough to taunt mobs from even if the drillingmachines would punt them backwards. I found that with and without bloodlust made a huge difference, without bloodlust they always got a keg off on my tank on about 20%, but with lust up I was able to just burst down fast enough.

Soloed this 5 times so far with my shamans in blue pvp gear with only the merciless shield. (tow specced however)
First pull
2 earth elementals and 3 fire elementals
Spread out and heal the earth elementals and pop bloodlust.
Secondpull i use 3 earth elementals and 2 fire elementals.
After this you have to wait 15 min on the elemental cooldowns.
Then start it over.
On the last i use 5 earth elementals and its realy easy.
HOWEVER there are mana issues atleast for me (7k mana) so i have to pop a Super mana pot in 90% of the fights but its SOOO worth it! ;) 2 spelldamage trinkets so far!

The trick to healing this boss with a priest is to use prayer of mending a lot. When prayer of mending ticks, the healing and threat is accounted to the person who has the buff. Preferably take a second tank or melee character along for killing the adds. Have that second character stand close to the main tank (out of cleave range, but in prayer of mending range) and healing becomes nothing more than refreshing prayer of mending and renew.

So much strat. I barely used any.
I have 4 undergeared shammies, 640 spell dmg. I put them all in the corner to Corens right. I couldn't find a tank so I had my friend tank Coren on his holy pally. We did my 4 shammies summons, i got the pipe on one so I took him out and alternated in my rogue and my hunter who are not set up to be used with my shammies so they just did auto attack and we only failed once due to a lag issue on the holy pally.

The fight changes ALOT when you got a person who tanks for you and 640 spelldamage is not bad atm i have 440! ;)

i have 320 spell damage on my shamans, they just hit 70 :( did it twice, wiped 3 times, after that I decided to gear em up a bit and also to do it in pugs until they are geared enough (500-600 sd) and then i will 5 box it for the last week or so.
the bad thing about doing it in pugs is the constant dice roll losses on stuff you want, at least when you 5 box it you know if something you want drops, you WILL get it!
Just couldnt help to tape a run of myself, you can see my setting is a bit different.
I blessed salvation, and just nuked away. I think I heal once per run, and have earth sthield on my pally, her gear is nice enough for me to rarely need to heal.

I just cant kill this guy.
My tank gets barreled over and over and over.
I bubble out of the first one, we are OK. I get another barrel, and its a wipe. Time after time after time.
Everybody has the /use macro for the brew, but the tank doesnt GET any brew! He still gets barreled....
Any hints??? I am P-D OFF!! ;P

I downed him so many times now.
I can easily kill him with four elemental, no fifth.
Basicly. What I do is this:
I spread out my four shammies, usually one each side, one middle and with one I just move around the room. I start dpsing like mad. Bloodlust, lightning botl spam. No chain lightning.
At 60ish percent, or sooner if it becomes a problem, I drop one earth elemental and one fire elemental, I keep dpsing until he is dead, when a char is getting low, I throw some lesser healing waves on it.
I got pvp gear, 10k hp, 360 resiliance and 11k armor. I imagine it would be much harder in other gear. :P
edit: PS: Just run away from him when he starts to cast his disarm skill. That's the one that does the most damage.
If one of my chars gets a barrel, I can still heal with the other three, so the barrel doesn't matter much with this tactic. At most I only get one a fight tho. Sometimes none.

I didn't have any issues with 4x ele Shaman and prot Paladin. I just parked Shaman in a corner, consecrate to pick up adds, healed as necessary and just nuked the crap out of the boss. You can position such that your Paladin is between the Shaman and the boss, close enough to pick up adds that spawn on the Shaman but far enough so that WW doesn't hit them. I just eat the WW on my Paladin it's not worth the hassle of re-positioning. If you get your tank barrel'd then use bubble to get out of it.

I get chain-kegged. I bubble out of the first one, then get another one, and another one, and another one. I can get kegged 4 times before its officially a wipe.
I can only bubble once. I have nothing to get out of it the second, third and fourth time around.
And I do NOT have a beer in my inventory when it happens. Beers that come my way gets insta-eaten.
Its really educating to hear about everyone who has no isseues with him, but I do. And would really appreciate any pointers / hints as to what I am doing wrong to warrant chain-kegging. ;)

On ALL of your characters?
Remember -- when the mug gets thrown at you twice (without drinking the first), someone RANDOMLY gets barreled -- you could just be unlucky about it hitting your tank >.< So all of the people in your party need to be drinking their mugs, otherwise you're going to get ALOT of disorient barrels.

I park all five shamans on top of each other at max range, and start nuking the instant he is attackable. While standing on top of each other means you eat cleaves, you can just CH out of it, and when the moles appear, you wont get knocked out of los of the boss.
Keep stoneclaw down and a constant stream of magma totems, alongside chain lightning every time its off cd, and he goes down very fast.
I have not actually died yet in any of my kills of him, and have been doing 5 a day, but I think my gear on the Moo's is a pretty big factor.

But if it works for you, who am I to say. xD

After some additional research, I think I know whats going on (Need to try it out today though)
- The beer does NOT prevent the kegg, it prevents a straight stun. (Brought in another toon yesterday which didnt have the /use beer thing, and she got stunned, not kegged)
- The elite will kegg the highest aggro target 16 secs after spawning, and will keep kegging. (wowwiki.com/Coren_Direbrew)
This explains everything I was seeing. I was using beers like mad, still get kegged. And would typically get kegged at around 20%-15%ish, so that means "everyone else" has the DPS to burn him faster than I do. (Chain heroism, drums, I put out about 700-1000 DPS, keep in mind CLs hit adds making that an inflated number). I dinged about a week ago, so only sitting at about 5-600dmg on the Elemental Shamans, and I run with 1 Resto, 3 Elementals, 1 Protadin.
Further backing this is a forum thread on the same topic :
So, my thinking now is :
- I dont have the DPS to burn him down before she starts kegging, so I need to kill her the second she spawns. This will prolong the fight, as she respawns fairly fast, and I will get mana issues :(
- I dont have the gear for the shammies to tank him while I am kegged. Sitting at 5K health, they take 2 hits from him and are history.
But, will try today to burn her down as soon as she spawns. If that doesnt work, I will pop an Earth elemental in a corner somewhere, drag them all over to the earthelemental when she spawns, drag the boss back out of range again. That way I have an earth elemental offtanking her for the duration. But sounds complicated ;(

Greatness,
Maybe respec the resto back to elemental if you are having problems with dps. Or drop a fire elemental per attempt. I think this will get easier once you get the trinkets from him and can use them. I would think worse case you drop 4 earth elementals and burn the crap out of him. Then wait 20 mins and do it all over again.

Yepp. Absolutely 100% positive that I use all beer at all times.
to the other question : Dinged a week or so ago, so gear is bad. 6-700 DMG
My shammys have around 700 to 800 spelldmg buffed, nothing too special tbh. And also running with a resto one (in dps gear though), having little trouble atm. Also dont use chainlightning, just full nuke coren
