View Full Version : WAR - Couple questions
So I tried out WAR during the head start program and I have a couple questions.
How long is it supposed to take to get into a scenario? I leveled to 6 being queued the entire time and I never got in. Server pop is listed as med/high.
I have an overclocked Core2duo and an 8800gt that I would think can handle the game but even on 'highest framerate' the mob and other player animations appear to be missing about half the frames. When a running creature only has like 3 animation frames something is wrong. Anyone else have this issue?
I have yet to engage in any PvP but somehow I leveled to renown rank 2. How did that happen?
Thanks!

Thanks!I was Rank 8 last night, and only got into the scenario RvR 2 times, and then nothing for the next 4 hours even though I was in the queue. From reading other boards this morning, the Tier 1 and Tier 2 scenarios were crashing last night.
Sometime around 10:30 pm pst, I took a break from PvE questing. I rolled 2 Engineers for the heck of it, named them Locken and Load. Before I completed the starting area quests, I was able to do 2 RvR scenarios. After I logged out, it was too late for my main R9 RR8 to queue because I already bound myself in a Tier 2 area, and can't queue to Tier 2 scenario until R10.
I have a Core 2 Duo lap top with 2x Go 7950 GTX and had to disable SLI. It was clunky when I set it at High Quality. I got a better result setting at Highest Framerate. My resolution is 1920 x 1200.
My AMD 64 Dual Code 4400 desktop have 1x 7800 GT @ 1680 x 1050 loads faster than the laptop, and it's also set at Highest Framerate.
As for getting some Renown XP via PvE, there are some quest, PQ that are RvR related and give Renown xp. Even if one grinds that way, it would be slower compared to the EXP + Renown XP via scenarios. Or you can just do RvR objectives too without doing scenarios.

1: there were some crashing issues with scenarios yesterday, so they were taken offline to be fixed.
2: my secondary PC's run WAR with absolutely no lag running 2gig ram, 2gig dualcore CPU, 8600GT's (with low settings). try turning the settings down gradually and disabling useless effects such as grass and shadows.
3: you can gain renown participating in RvR areas, PQ's, etc, without directly participating in PvP.
as a little side note.. if PvE isnt your thing.. you can actually level quite quickly purely via scenarios (as long as youre on a decent population server with frequent scenarios running). i leveled 1-11 on my team with two bright wizards and two runepriests in a few hours two days ago. stand next to your scenario quest giver and just keep accepting/completing the quest. i was averaging around 8,000 experience per 10 minute scenario, plus another 700 for completing the quest. thats nearly 900 experience per minute not even including any experience you get from kills during the scenario (50-100xp per kill).
ontop of that, i easily capped out my renown each level, before i attained the next level. i was RR10 already when i hit level 11.. plus the gold is quite decent from scenarios. over 1 silver per kill per group member from equal level PvP kills, plus another silver and a bit each from completing the quest. when you hit 10 you can buy some awesome PvP gear from your faction keeps.
all in all, i was surprised that this game actually seems to live up to its promise of viable PvP leveling.

I think that most people are enjoying the open rvr more than scenarios cause on the server i was playing... the Order won like 430 out of 500 times.. so destruction just stopped que'ing. And then head to Tier 2 content where you can pvp while you lvl.
Hey all, thanks for the info. I haven't had much time to play lately but I'll give the suggestions a try.

Do you get a free month when you buy the game (like when you buy wow)? If so then I'd like to give it a shot.

I'm pretty sure you get the standard free month.
Anyways, I find myself on my low pop server waiting around 10-15 minutes tops for joining a Chaos/Empire RvR.
It seems like there is always one scenario per tier that gets all the attention while the other 2 are lacking. It makes me badly wish for an option to queue for all of a tier's respective scenarios anywhere I want as opposed to bieng in a certain area.
That said, my server is usually full with an hour waiting queue during prime time, med/med during off hours. If your in during prime time, scenario queue time is almost instantanious. Off hours it's like 10 min.
Leveling strictly through PVE is much, much slower.

I like the fact that the kill quests are brief in number, like kill 3, 4 or 5 of a given group. I haven't seen anymore then that (Chaos side).
I did pause my Zealot to see what playing a DoK is like and I enjoyed the quest where you use that ballista type of bow to sniper the approaching high-elf infantry. Once I killed the 4 the quest was complete and it kicked me off the ballista. Pity, i was enjoying it.

I think it's the 2nd quest, and the cannons are just 10 feet from starting point.

is there a population imbalance? char type imbalance? or they just got unlucky and sucked?

I think it has to do more with luck. In that, since you can begin to play in this scenario from the moment you log in. I noticed many times that my group was lvl 2 or 3 average, (but the scenario gives you lvl 8 stats), and we would be fighting lvl 7 or 8 average groups (meaning some lvl 9, 10, or 11. Your stats might be adjusted up to lvl 8, but you don't have the lvl 8 skills. Your opponent my have those lvl 10 skills (higher damage dealing)...so losing in the scenario isn't a bad thing. Doesn't mean you suck (unless you are losing to a lot of lower leveled groups). :)

If anyone still cares about this thread, in regards to the queue times for T1 and T2 scenarios, there was a bug which would result in Scenario instances not popping even though there was enough participants to warrent a pop.
This has been fixed, and you can enjoy 10 second wait times on T1 and T2 Scenarios.

The playing against higher levels fixes itself real quick in T1 at least as you get a big chunk of your XP bar filled with every win, so those lvl 10-11 guys won't be in there for long, and even the losers get great xp with the repeatable quests to participate and kill 10 enemies.
My que times in T1 & T2 have been almost instant, at least in Nordenwatch and the mountain one where you control/carry the orb thing.

Queue times seem really long for me, I only got in 3 games in T2 elf area in 3h of playing. It's probably just the faction imbalance, as it seems most servers have a higher Destruction population than Order. Also, at least on Azazel, Destruction wins 9/10 games. The few times I've lost a scenario were usually against a pre-made with higher level players (like all 18-20 people in the T2 scenario, when our team was a normal range of 11-20.)
I haven't noticed any char type imbalances at all. In T1 it was definitely Witch Elf heavy, but in T2 it seems more balanced.

Go play the T2 scenario in dwarf/goblin lands. Much faster queue times (and some crazy fights) on our server.
I went nuts and tried out a ton of characters to rank 5 or 6, now I have two high elves at rank 11.
What I found out was that the wait time for scenerios is noticably higher destruction side. However you also have to learn which scenerios have more players queing.
What I did was go around and do all the scenerios, to find out which ones seemed to have the best xp/run. In tier 1 it is a toss up between The Empire and dwarf ones. While I actually think the elf one is fun to do you clearly get less return on your time, because of how easy and common it is to stalemate and have to go the 15 minutes I think it is underpopulated. Leading to longer qeues and less xp.
Personaly I think you should pick based on what roles each race is lacking in. So my sordmaster for example did the Empire scenerio, but my Witch hunter did the dwarf one for dps.
On wasteland last night I took a brand new swordmaster from creation to rank 9 in 4.5 hours in Empire. Doing nothing but scenerios. Without exageration the wait time was less than a minute for 4.5 hours straight. Also it helped that we won 75% of the time.
Seriously roll order if you want more scenerios.
The problem with order is open RvR, the pop imbalance makes it kind of tough to get shit done.

1. Destruction populations are much bigger than Order, so queue times are much longer for Destruction.
2. People are becoming aware of which are the faster scenarios so they are gravitating to those areas (generally Greenskin/Dorf).
Now that they patch it so you can queue any scenario anywhere (in a given tier), i've found that everyone picks just one and goes with it. Getting into any other scenario is like pulling teeth, but for the popular one it's generally under a 5 min wait.
And usually it's like the variant of Morkain Temple (whatever the T2 dwarf vs orc one is). Simple team deathmatch with an object in play that bolsters your points if you kill with it. There is a scenario in T3 like that, except underground and full of ledges overlooking lava. Lots of punting in that one as getting in lava generally results in death.

BREAKING NEWS
I feel like an idiot. I didn't discover this until today, this is with a 14 Chosen, 8 DoK, 13 Archmage, 7 Ironbreaker and a 7 Sorceress. You can queue multiple scenarios. Just queue the first one, pop up the scenario dialog and click the right or left button and join the next one. There are 3 scenarios in T1 and 3 more in T2. Wish I knew that when I was sitting for ages not getting any scenario pops, everyone must have been queing for a different scenario.

Yes, found out the same after installing corepvp addon. This automatically joins the scenarios for you :-)
There are really some good addons around already.

Yes, this is true, you get a free month like on WoW, but only after you buy the game for $45 or $49, where ever it's sold. You also must enter credit card information at registration time which is slightly unlike WoW. WoW lets you play without having any subscription or credit card information associated with your account.
The subscription costs for both WoW and WAR are identical in that you can set up a month for $14.99 or a 3 month subscription or a 6 month subscription for $77.94.
