Hey guys Im new to boxing and so far i love it. Today I got a big time upgraded computer w/ geforce 9800 gx2. But going to setup dual monitors I it wont read the second one. I have searched all over the internet with very little success. The answers I've seen arent even any of the options i can find in the nvidia control panel. Ive done all the simple things like trying to enable the second monitor but it just wont take. If someone could respond with a detailed answered I would be most appreciative

First of all make sure the new monitor works. Plug it in as the main monitor and make sure the thing is actually putting out a display. If it is follow these simple instructions:

Im guessing you have already tried this but I will tell you what I done.

Plug both monitors in and then restart the computer.

Now, right click anywhere on the desktop and select properties, then click on the settings tab.

From here you should have an option to select 2 monitors or at least have a drop down showing a secondary monitor. (if you don’t have this I think you might have an issue with the graphics card).

Set the secondary monitor as extended desktop.

Done.

I¨m verry sorry to inform you that 9800GX2 does not work with multiple monitors since it uses two gpus and SLI. SLI can't use multiple monitors. Only way to use more than 1 display with GX2 is to disable SLI in nvidia config. BUT you will only get the perofrmance of a 8800GTS512 if you do so :(

it also might be better that you only use 1 graphics card. i heard a lot of people say that they lose performance using SLI/crossfire. The reason is that WOW is not SLI/crossfire compatible :(

Go to the nVidia control panel, under "set up multi-gpu config" change it to "multi-display mode".
And by unlinking them you're just splitting them into two separate 9800s running on one bus, not a single 8800GTS512.
I actually gained FPS while 5 boxing from unlinking them.

Best PC hardware for running 5-10 WoW on the same system ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=122996&highlight=#post122996')

Stop scaring people away saying they can't box because of the hardware they have. You sound like a salesperson.

You sound like a salesperson.hes right about the videocard, SLI cant do dual monitors, if you want 2 videocards rendering and be able to do dualview get 3870x2,4850x2 4870x2. crossfire works like a charm with dual monitors i\m confused why nvidia doesnt fix this isssue. another option is to get a single fast gpu such as the gtx260 or gtx280. may i ask how much you paided for that 9800gx2????????

Sorry, but the "Mult-Display Mode" just deactivate one "part" of the card, so you run with only one gpu. That means it's like you have only one card in your computer, it doesn't benefits from the second gpu or the momory. The 9800gx2 is the same as you have two cards with sli and sli doesn't work on more than one screen. I had bought this card too, and i didn't know that you can use only one monitor in sli mode :(

After unlinking them, mine still shows up as two cards, bit deceptive if you ask me.
I stand corrected.

1. Open nvidia control panel and select "Multi-display mode" under 3d settings.
2. Make sure second monitor is enabled under windows display settings. (right click on desktop and select personalization under vista)
