Macros and Modifiers

Hiya all :) Just got my 1pala + 4shammy team to 21 on Nagrand but im having a small problem
I cant get my head round how macros like

/cast [nomodifier] Fire Nova Totem
/cast [mod:shift] Searing Totem
/cast [mod:alt] Magma Totem

work across multiple windows. specifically im wondering how the modifiers get sent because the firenova cast perfectly but the searing and other totems dont work

I have bound bottomfightactionbar 9 to F! just as a test and it would cast the first step (nomodifier) totem but alt+f1 and shift+f1 do nothing

Am i missing something? ive looked around the forums and tried to research the answer to this but cant seem to find this topic :(
im hoping i dont need to have seperate buttons and combos for every totem i need (/castsequence preset combos not withstanding)

I'll ask the obvious question: Have you checked your keybinding? if the shift and alt combinations are already bound to something within wow, it won't work.

Cause for the function-keys (F1,F2,...,F12) not all modifiers are available.

In this case 'alt' as modifier would not be available.
Onother thing you could try is to get a all-in-one castline like this:

/cast [nomod]Fire Nova Totem;[mod:shift]Searing Totem;[mod:alt]Magma Totem

(but i'm not exactly sure if this helps)

Ok im embarassed on 2 counts now :) one i hadnt unbound shift-F1 from target pet and 2 because even more fundementally i hadnt actually bought firenova totem on 3 of my shammys :) which kind of explains why it only worked on one :D

ill crawl away to a small hole now and die of shame :)
