I'm relatively new to the whole multi-boxing world, but I'm thinking about starting a Mage / Pally combo for some serious aoe action. I was thinking prot pally with extra points in holy, and frost on the mage.
Any opinions on spec and if this will be very viable.
I suspect it wouldn't work all that well. I'm not too familiar with paladins, but being the tank AND healer on one character whilst also controlling another character sounds like a considerable challenge, especially for someone new to dual boxing. Keep in mind that all your target area spells (think Blizzard or Flamestrike) require the use of a mouse for the targetting meaning you'd need to have your your window with the mage active to have access to those spells. I'd personally suggest something simpler for your first attempt at multiboxing, perhaps two casters. Mage/Mage or Warlock/Warlock or Shaman/Shaman.
Think about it, but ultimately you should do whatever feels right. I hope my post wasn't too negative :S

So my first attempt was a lock/lock pair, which turned out pretty well, got them up to 14 with little effort. Tried the pally/mage group and you're completely right, it's a royal pain in the ass to do things, at least at early levels. I think I'd be better off just leveling mage/mage and gifting my pally up to 60.
thanks for the response
I'm quite fond of my two warlocks. My only gripe with two locks is soul shard management, but it's well worth it for the pets and especially the soulstones when something goes wrong.
