I honestly dont see wowhead going with that redesign and claiming its an official ad without it actually being so.

I'm not sure though what their intention would be with going live with it early, as you'd think if it were a mistaken push they'd have reverted it really quickly and just given a no-comment to wowinsider (even if they are the same company) if they wanted to remain on good terms with Blizzard.

I do know though that I'd bank almost everything I have on that being the announced date if a gun were at my head.

6 Collectors editions to pick up + Guitar Hero: World Tour is released here on the 12th as well....given the midnight release would be on the 12th, that will be ~$1k spent on games in one day.

wowhead is eastcoast, so perhaps there was some sort of contractual term ambiguity

then again this technique is often used to heighten buzz
there sure are a ton of people waiting to see what blizzard will announce at midnight

i suspect that's why wotlk site is slow (getting hammered with F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5)

edit: I actually meant this heightens the buzz for WotLK, which would make sense because WAR is getting released this Thursday.

Brilliant marketing move if true. We'll probably see the ship date ultimately pushed back, but this is meant to take some steam out of WAR's opening sales.

at the end of the day don't assume any dates are 100% correct no matter what they say unless it comes from the horses mouth!

As I said, I cant see what their (or thottbot since its there too) motive would be but driving extra traffic to their site most likley isn't it. They are an official blizzard fansite and doubt they'd want to jepodise that relationship since it's theroetically possible blizzard could sue them for copyright infringement (making money off Blizzard IP) if they were no longer an official fansite.

i'm not saying that's what happening here, but it could potentially be a slap to WAR's opening week sales
it's easy to forget on these forums that most gamers are on a budget,
and knowing an "official" release date for WotLK might convince at least some of them to save their money

Not going to miss out on all the CE's and then be kicking myself when I can't get them in the future....apart from that my 5-man is pure PvE and I'll be making a concerted push for first 80's leveling them up as the group. I can experience the content with my raid main as he levels to 80.

The CE were just announced today thus this is the first time retailers can sell them, I bet with in the next cupple of days you will be able to order them.

On a more serious note, I haven't heard about any of the local stores (EB & Game) doing a midnight launch - although that would be awesome if they did. I'm lucky enough to work in IT distribution, so I'm already exploring some other avenues to get the product a bit earlier as well. ;)

Any thoughts about prices? Would I be saving any by preordering, buying brick and mortar, buying online, or waiting a few months? As for the last option, that doesn't bother me at all. I definitely will be getting 1-2 copies for opening day. But primary focus was, is and will be my mains. Even if I get 5 copies out of the gate, I probably will barely play my teams in favor of getting my mains to 80, getting them geared up again, getting them in raids, etc.

Business wise, it's also the slowest point of the year for me, not many folks lining up around the block to put money in my pocket that time of year with xmas coming up, so pinching a few pennies where I can is more than welcome if anyone has any suggestions.
