hmm, interesting.... interesting indeed. Keyclone actually has some sort of routine that generates a 'System ID Key'. How it does that, I don't know. However, the 'System ID Key' can be the same for different computers. It almost appears that the 'System ID Key' is generated for the model of the computer. How would I know this? Because I bought 3 identical model laptops and Keyclone will run for all 3 of them and I didn't pay the $20.00 for Keyclone for those that it runs on. How could I pay for them? It doesn't really let me pay if it thinks they are already registered. I go into the About section in Keyclone and it shows the 'System ID Key' is the same for all of them. Once again, I didn't pay for Keyclone to work on any of those laptops. Am I using Keyclone? No, I'm using Octopus. I tried Keyclone on my other computers and purchased a license for the computers that the 'System ID Key' was not registered with.

So what I'm trying to say is, Keyclone has a serious flaw in the way it generates the 'System ID Key'. It doesn't appear to be using an IP Address or a computer name. It appears that it goes by the model of the computer to generate the 'System ID Key' that it uses for validating the registration. If someone pays for a 'System ID Key', they may actually be paying for a key that others can use because their system will generate the same 'System ID Key' when Keyclone runs on their systems. For what it's worth, it was the Hewlett Packard computers that seemed to work with Keyclone without requiring payment as the 'System ID Key' was valid.

the upcoming release will be addressing this.. and will be a forced update (which is why i have been putting it off)

Don't suppose your update includes a better, quicker way of updating your system id / key ? :)

This guy said he downloaded it and it just worked on his stationary, but not for his laptop later in the convo.
So, in fact, he hadn't done anything wrong per say.

It must be a combination of hardware and software (OS). I updated to Vista and needed a new key
