In the experience of people who have been threatened with "reporting", do you find it happens more often when you're doing something in particular? For example, if you five-box in a battleground?
I know that it's legal and legit, but I'm new to this thing and I'd rather not "make enemies" of strangers if I don't have to. So far I've made it to level 61/62 without any complaints.

Only time i get reported is when you come across someone who has no idea what multiboxing is and have a stick in their butt, or if I 5xCL some poor sap and he gets all huffy. Most of my server, and battle group for that matter are supportive of me though. You should have no problems as long as you dont tag/steal mobs, or corpse camp.

Someone somewhere will decide you are cheating and report you. Don't worry about it. Sometimes they will listen to reason and other times they won't. If anyone threatens they will report you, just tell them if they feel that strongly about it to "go ahead, but the GMs have already said multiboxing is OK".
The MOST important thing is that you don't harass them in any way! If they report you for harassment instead of multi-boxing then you will loose. On the other hand, if they harass you, feel free to report them x5. :D

If anyone is going to report you, it will either be the ones in the noob startup areas or people who are just jealous that you run 2 or more accounts at once. I mostly get people who want to duel me while I am trying to level. Just ignore them!
You can get banned for buying and selling gold and accounts, speedhacking, or using afk type bot software. Multi-boxing is totally legal and I will tell you why Blizzard will not ban it any time soon. One word: REVENUE. Blizzard made over 1.5 BILLION DOLLARS last year! If you are using multiple accounts legally, why would Blizzard ban you? lol Blizzard is making a killing on the people who own 5 to 10 accounts when you consider that is $15.00 per account per month! Do the math on that one!
Enjoy your multiboxing enjoyment and forget about the ignorant haters out there!
Enjoy! :P

I'm not so worried about being banned as people taking their ball and going home. No matter how accomplished I may become at 5-boxing, I'm still gonna need 5 other characters to beat a WSG. If they all /afk out, then I'm thinking it may be a better strategy to just two-box.
Of course I haven't even TRIED battlegrounds with multiple accounts yet (my main is 70, my boxes are 61-62), was just wondering if it's a common complaint and/or if there are other situations that gets more negative attention than others.
You vastly overestimate the ability of 5 independent people to all sync /afk out. Plus, you can always find 5 GOOD people to roll WSG with that can augment rather than be a detriment to your playstyle.
