Load up Supreme Commander and use the "unlimited units" cheat. With a crapload of stuff flying around, it'll bog most machines. ;)

What could possibly be better then:
3dmark 2001
3dmark 2003
3dmark 2005
3dmark 2006
3dmark Vantage (DX10 only)
It's a benchmark program, which include some cool sceneries and bar in which you can see your fps.

Yea I know of 3D mark.. But that's not what I want - I wanna play to try out stuff :p
Supreme Commander is definitely the way to go. You should also try expanding the game to two monitors which can be activated in the visual options. Believe me, that's going to be very very ... stressful. I did exactly that to find the limits of my new bought machine a year ago and it worked great, 5-10 frames maximum in a big map with ~5000 units already.
One stupid thing about that game is and I don't exactly know why that happens, if you got too much units on the map the game will slow down more and more over the time, at some points you won't be able to play it any longer since the movement of a single unit can take minutes for a path of 20 meters. Imagine 2000 units moving from one end to the other which took me often 30 minutes or more.
It's not fun as soon as you're running the game with speed +10 (the maximum afaik) and you still cant play it "fast".
Anyway, 2 monitor support and a big map, this will do the job.

Supreme Commander is the shit! Loved that game. Unlimited units is a must for that game.
I found it too slow paced even on the highest speed settings and edited one of the game files to increase unit and building production by like 5 fold. Made the game so much more hectic and fun (since the computer also benefits).
FEAR is also a good game, with everything maxed out and with Shadows on their highest settings it brought my computer to about 16fps! (16 aniso, 4x AA @ 1680x1050). Not bad for a fairly old game. Could be the gfx engine is not that optimised.
UT3 is cool, but that gfx engine is killer and will run on pretty much any system. Always loved the Unreal engines.

3d mark is useless.
