LOVE Keyclone

Maximizer can be a bit trying at times, however. I always have to reset it every time I start up Keyclone, it never seems to remember the settings. Also, and most annoyingly, when I set up 2 screens, one with PiP in the lower right corner, I often times have to redo it over and over again until it finally retains the 'always on top' checkbox. It could be that I'm doing something wrong but I just can't see what it is.

I reset, set up the main screen, give it a specific region and PiP key. Then I add the PiP screen, resize it and put it in place in the lower right corner, add its specific region and also its PiP key, and check the always on top box. Then I select 'Apply' and then 'Ok'. Going right back into Maximizer right afterwards, often times the 'Always on Top' box is no longer checked, and the small screen for PiP is behind the main screen.

Usually redoing it once or twice does the trick, but this morning I've had to redo it about five or six times and it has yet to retain the 'always on top' check.

my guess... you are on vista (ahhh... vista...)

if that is the case, most likely you do not have the file permissions correct.

my recommendation would be to remove your keyclone folder entirely... just to make sure. you will have to re-do you settings, one last time.

then, download keyclone to the desktop (get the alpha here: http://solidice.com/keyclone/gurb ) close broswer right-click keyclone installation... run-as-administrator go through install normally close everything and open 'my computer' find the keyclone folder... right-click the keyclone application (it has an ice cube icon) / send to / desktop (creates shortcut) close everything right-click keyclone desktop icon / properties / advanced and CHECK the 'always run as administrator' hit ok and run keyclone nomrallyset up your keyclone completely...once done... right-click the tool tray icon and click exit to restart keyclone (it's vista... so i'm superstitious)

restart keyclone one last time and everything should be set.

let me know if this works for you.

good luck,

Rob

Heehee. No I refuse to go to Vista. Not yet anyway. Who knows when. I just hate being a guinea pig for Microsoft. My XP still works just fine for me, so I'll be sticking with that for the unforeseeable future. :)

Should I try reinstalling nonetheless?

yes, try the re-install and use the alpha (it has a few tweaks that are better). do the exit after install just to insure the settings flush to disk (more superstition)

Ok, will do. Thanks!

Just to add, I did notice this morning that, after getting maximizer set up the way I wanted, if I clicked into the first region and back into the PiP region, and then hit 'apply' 'ok', it seems to retain the checkbox. If I don't do that, then there's a good chance going back into Maximizer the 'always on top' will not be checked.

you do need to 'select' the region you want the pip hotkey or always on top to be attached to. to select a region, you must left-click it first... you'll see the region name in the upper left

The small PiP screen would always be the last one I'd make, so I would select it in order to set its region, PiP and then I would check 'always on top' with it selected. However, I noticed that if I just select 'apply' and 'ok', it would often not stick. If, however, I'd select the first region I made and then the PiP region once again, and THEN hit 'apply' and 'ok', then it seems to stick more often than not when I go back into maximizer to check.

Hopefully I'm being clear enough, I'm finding it difficult to explain. :)

hmmm... i'll check to see if there is something that is not saving. it should be saving each field as you hit apply.

thanks for the heads up
