View Full Version : Your worst keyboard broadcasting mishaps? (Accidental chat spam, etc)

A couple of weeks ago I had the biggest scare of my life that has made me really focus on pausing the Clonekeys broadcaster.
I got into an incredibly raunchy conversation with someone on an instant messenger I opened up for a moment while I was boxing and had went to browse wowwiki for some info. I had forgotten to pause the broadcaster. Imagine my horror when I came back and found my entire conversation in /say spam. Luckily I was standing in Moonglade and no one seemed to have seen any of it. I can't repeat most of the things that I typed to her in that conversation, so I'd have gotten banned for sure if anyone had seen that. Never forgot to pause! Never open up messengers during WoW sessions! Ah!

This didnt happen to me but to my friend... He was checking his bank statement online and forgot to pause octopus. Lucky for him we were chatting in guild chat and that we have our own private guild... else wise someone may have put 2 and 2 together to screw him

Try switching to ClonedKeys ('http://code.google.com/p/clonedkeys/') (note the 'd'). It checks if the current application is in its list before it broadcasts.

When I was just starting out mboxing and I was still trying to keep a low profile I replied to someones simple question in the trade channel 5x, which quickly went into hundereds of WTF's showing up in the trade channel.
I was so red in the face embarrased that I logged off for 30 min. :pinch:

It's not a broadcast keyboard issue, but quite similar...
I had my computer setup with a headset for vent and a webcam that sat unplugged 90% of the time. It was thrown in with some other equipment I bought and had no real purpose. Anyhow I'm logged into Vent, and I get a phone call, so I drop my headset and start talking, I'm on voice activated and the damn things still picking up my voice... so I flip the hardware microphones mute on the headset and for some reason the light on vent stayed green.
I figured what the hell, its probably some form of static in the headset so continue with my conversation... the phone calls from a guy in my guild, another officer. He's pissed about a guy who happens to be in ventrilo with me... I'm agreeing that this guys a real jackass at times, and is definitely out of line this time... I give a few other examples of why he's a dipshit, etc... meanwhile my screen in wow is blowing up with "HOT MIC" whispers from the other dozen guys in the channel with us... but I'm not reading that.
Anyhow, the guy we were badmouthing heard the whole thing and for the next few days was lividly pissed at us... after that, we noticed the behavior changed! Thankfully his overhearing our candid conversation got him to straighten up instead of bailing out!

RE: well, I hope you were talking raunchy to a friend as opposed to someone who would report you I was chatting to a friend on another program. My broadcaster was still sending all keyboard presses even though I had no WoW client selected.

I had 1 character logged in before and logged in my 4 alts and accidently said my password in guild chat ( no one would have my login names), but still i rushed my ass to change my pw.

Weird. I never have a problem with keys I type in programs other than WoW getting sent to my WoW clients. I use Firefox and even text editors all the time and haven't ever had to pause. That said, I've been guilty of the '1222224534444434444334444' x4 says many a time.

There is a new multiboxer on my server and he is still getting to grips with configuring keyclone/octopus (or whatever he is using). The few times I've talked to him all 5 characters have whispered me with the same text. He has obviously not setup key broadcasting properly. But a couple of days ago as I was questing in Hellfire I saw the following in general chat "... but I don't care because I'm gay, it doesn't matter to me..." X 4. His main appears to have whispered to the appropriate person but his 4 alts said that in general chat. :)

Almost always, the thing that happens is my chat says "222222222222222222222222222222222" as I wipe my team trying to cast spells aft er trying to finish chat.
Worst had to do in DAoC. To set the situation: in that game there was an "alliance chat" with many other guilds all on the same channel. I was always flirting with this girl on our guild, and she had a bad day and wanted a neck massage. The the chat spam had been relatively quiet all day, so the message that went out stayed up for a bit. I was typing out a long joke for the alliance, when she started whining about her neck so i erased the /AS message. I forgot to escape and remove the /AS first.
What went out on the alliance chat said "turbopinto bends down to gently caress and kiss it"
>.<
Wow, these are funny stories. I've not had problems of this nature as I don't usually have my letter keys broadcasting, just the buttons that are bound to actionbars.
The worst I've ever had was while testing some macros. I was playing my warlocks, Vidamorte and Mortevida, and having played with my actionbar swapping macro I spammed it to see if it worked...
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Mortevida says: swapactionbar 1 2
Someguy says: 0_o
Otherdude says: What the?
Vidamorte says: Argh! Bad macro!!
Not nearly as comical as your stories, but awkward nonetheless. This was right in front of the IF bank too :S

Not the worst I've had, but I often forget which button I've pressed, 12 is my bypass-Do-not-pass and Pause is my mute, and end up spamming guild chat with "112311121`212```127" a lot.
Or whats worse is the numberpad keys go through to all toons, so when I type I either use the 1-= keys at the top of the keyboard and hope I dont drop totems and dismount, or I use the numberpad, which normally ends up with my guys lined up in single file following the main. Horay for formation macros :D
I've .. multiple times, accidentally put on bypass-DNP and done /1 blah blah, turned it off, typed in guild then turned it on again to do something on all chars but forgetting to turn it off and talked in guild again. As my mods remember which channel I was just in .. well .. yeh General chat get x4 weird sentences sometimes :)

Was fixing a really big macro, then when I wanted to test my macro I cicked it, nothing happened, so I clicked it again. It didn't work. I spammed it a few times. (Who knows, huh? ) Anyhow, it just wouldn't do anything!
Then I saw I accidentally put /2 instead of /cast in front of the macro. I was talking in trade just before it, so it felt naturally when I was writing out the macro to type /2. :P
I had been spamming a huge macro like 8 times in trade.
*shame*
