I did some searching last night and this seems to be the universal guide that you are going to need to get Inscription up to 300. I am going to try to get 2 times anything in the list below so hopefully I can blow through the powerleveling. Anyone else have any ideas on what is needed?

Inscription Guide ('http://www.inscription-guide.com/inscription-leveling-guide/')

Inscription Leveling Guide

At the moment you can’t level inscription past 300.
So revisit us and check if that changed :)

You mil 5 herbs to 2 - 3 pigments*.
Each herb tier gives different pigments:
(Each means**: You need only one herb from a tier. Eg. you could level just with Peacebloom without using the other Tier 1 herbs at all.)

Alabaster Pigment: Bloodthistle / Peacebloom / Silverleaf / Earthroot / Mageroyal
Dusky Pigment: Briarthorn / Swiftthistle / Bruiseweed / Stranglekelp
Golden Pigment: Wild Steelbloom / Grave Moss / Kingsblood / Liferoot
Emerald Pigment: Fadeleaf / Goldthorn / Khadgar's Whiskers / Wintersbite
Violet Pigment: Firebloom / Purple Lotus / Arthas' Tears / Sungrass / Blindweed / Ghost Mushroom / Gromsblood
Silvery Pigment: Golden Sansam / Dreamfoil / Mountain Silversage / Plaguebloom / Icecap

To level Inscription to 300 you’ll need the following ammount of herbs:
(This list if for the worst case scenario where you would get every time 2 pigments from milling. You should need less materials.)

10 stacks of Alabaster-giving herbs (eg. 200x Peacbloom)
5 stacks of Dusky-giving herbs (eg. 100x Brianthorn)
5 stacks of Golden-giving herbs (eg. 100x Kingsblood)
6 stacks of Emerald-giving herbs (eg. 120x Goldthorn)
12 stacks of Violet-giving herbs (eg. 240x Blindweed)
19 stacks of Silvery-giving herbs (eg. 380x Dreamfoil)

If you don’t have the gathering profession just buy the cheapest herbs from the auction house.

In total you’ll need the following materials:

33 x Silverleaf
20 Silver Ink
81 Alabaster Pigment
39 Dusky Pigment
35 Golden Pigment
41 Emerald Pigment
95 Violet Pigment
150 Silvery Pigment
208 Light Parchment
76 Common Parchment
95 Heavy Parchment

Awesome post. I was thinking about getting one of my shaman's herbalism up and by picking these and putting them on a bank alt I'll have enough to power level inscription.

I think a smart thing would be to get a bunch of outland herbs together also. From what I understand there are different "levels" of herbs. Milling a certain level of herbs will yield you that level of ink. I would look into getting a bunch of the cheapest herbs together (Felweed/Ragviel). I am not sure if there are a couple different levels of outland herbs or not. It would be a nightmare if you had to mill a bunch of fel lotus.

Wowhead has the following information
Herbs ('http://www.wowhead.com/?items=7.9')

Name/Level
Fel Lotus 75
Mana Thistle 75
Nightmare Seed 73
Nightmare Vine 73
Netherbloom 70
Ancient Lichen 68
Flame Cap 67
Ragveil 65

This is just speculation on my part. I am not a beta tester!!!!!

The wrath of the lich king wiki has a great write up on Inscription, an alternative 1-300 guide and a list of what herbs can be milled into what pigments. Currently ALL outland herbs mill into the same pigment, so stock up on Felweed while they are still cheap:

http://wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Inscription#tab=General_Information
http://wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Inscription#tab=Reagents
http://wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Guide/Inscription

You should also note that if you are planning on buying herbs "cheap" before the patch, you may already have missed the boat, my analysis from the weekend showed that herb prices are up 63% average on Silvermoon (EU) and 58% on Kilrogg (EU) in the last month.

I think that wiki is a little out of date. The reason i say this is because it says that you have 6 glyphs (3 minor and 3 major), but from what i have read in wowinsider lately is that you only get 4 glyphs (2 minor and 2 major). Also i heard that if this was your profession you got 2 more glyphs, but last week i read in wowinsider is that you only get 1 extra glyphs (don't remember if it was minor or major).

Here is the question will people (like ellay) have inscription as there second profession to get that extra spell damage. Like how enchanters get that 24 extra for enchanting rings (god i hope they don't change that), will this extra profession make a difference that i should get it. I would lose my 4 transmutes a day (which bring some nice money), but for the extra damage it might be worth it, also i am finding now that i am 70 and doing dailies i am making some nice money (about 600g a day only doing like 14 dailies). So the 100g i get from trans is a small price to pay.

EDIT: On the first paragraph, i am looking for what i read that said this. Maybe i was speed reading or read somewhere else about only 4 glyphs.

Aye it seems to concur with what I can find on wow-insider too:

http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/09/05/ask-a-beta-tester-all-about-inscription-and-a-few-other-things/
A player with the Inscription profession makes Glyphs.
Glyphs can be traded, sold, mailed, put on the auction house, or whatever else. I have not yet encountered any Glyphs that are bind on pick-up.
Your currently equipped Glyphs live in a tab on your spellbook. You have three minor Glyph slots and three major Glyph slots. A player with Inscription has an extra major Glyph slot. (There are no minor Glyphs currently in the game.)I've also looked around for a comparison of the relative merits of different professions for min-maxing and this is what I've come up with so far:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html;jsessionid=DA1D9B157F4935CBF2CAC5DC22F 89FF5.app11_06?topicId=9023682009&sid=1
Decent, if unfinished summary that prompted no discussion, which surprised me.

Loads of relevant stuff in this post, but /wrists to try and read through the whole thread to get the really important information.

Nice to know they have made all of the herbs more valuable as opposed to one or 2 absolutley stupid.

Mind you my flower pickers have been going like mad, I have dozens of stacks floating in mail, waiting for release day. I can confirm some low end herb prices going up not so much peace bloom but silverleaf was going for 2-3g per stack if you could find it.

I've got an assortment of herbs stored away but I don't think its going to be enough unfortunately. The priceses on the AH (Eonar US) have already gone up 50-100% I took up herbalism on one of my newest (RAF) girls in anticipation of Inscription.

Yet another reason to stop leveling those RAF teams and start questing/farming with your team of 70's. I know I am in a position that it doesn't really matter what the prices or the herbs are. Doing dailies for a couple days should get you enough gold together for all the herbs you need.

But spread that over 5 characters and it does not go very far. I know Blizzard have introduced some large money sinks into the game, it hope it does not carry accross into professions or general game play.

holy poop you got your epic mounts?

My goal was to get enough gold for my epic flyer's but I decided to hold off and see how much gold I could make before WotLK. If I can go into it with a minimum of 50K I'll put the rest towards epic flyers.

Well I have all my herbs together and a bunch of felweed/ancient lichen/mana thistle saved away on a bank. I really hope Inscription comes into the game today.
