Hello dear multi boxing community,
I m freshly new to mutli boxing and i ordered my new computer despite, i have a long experience in mmo (ultima online in 97, daoc and now wow), i decided to get involved in mutli boxing since RAF was out and upcoming expansion wotlk.
So i bought a new computer today here is my set up :
core 2 duo E8500 (2*3.16 Ghz) 6mb L2 1333 Mhz EMT64T BOX
500 GB Maxtor 7200 TRS
4* 1024 mb DDR2 transcend
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT 512 DDR3 Twintech
Asus P5Q Socket 775 Intel p45
22 inches monitor 1680*1050
My Hopes:
Well im looking to multi boxing 3 account on this set up prolly most of the time 2 accounts, do you think i ll be fine any advices are more than welcome, can i expect more than 3 accounts running with this set up?
Which software should i get ?
Since i ll playing only on a single one computer with a single one monitor which softwares i should aim ?
I tried to get much information i can in advance i apologize if some of my questions seem noobish or redudand with other new users, cheers again for all your help.
it should be able to handle 3 or probably more at once, but the only real way to be sure is to test it out.

i suggest going for keyclone, as its simple to setup and a very user friendly hustle free :D
and as far as your PC can handle i think with slight tweaking u can load 4 clients, 3 would be fine though
gl and welcome to the family

cheers for your early replies guys, well didnt manage to test it out yet since i ll get my new computer tomorrow :)
Just another small question sounds noobish again maybe: im planning to run rogue-druid- 3rd class didnt decide yet really ( resto shammy (druid would be probably feral), a dps caster or another healer ?) purpose of this small group is leveling in ease and maybe doing some gold farming.
It comes to another sub question if do use 1 healer among my 3 accounts, i read i ve to use a multiplex, most videos i ve seen about multi boxing ppl are using same classes ie: 5 shammies, 5 mages and so on, is it so hard to set up properly different classes to act as core is there any kind of multiplex you recommend.
cheers again i ll promise to learn fast about multi boxing ;)

imo maybe other ppl can manage it ez, but chosing a 2 mele dps is kinda difficult for me to manage, especially if one of them is a rogue where i belive some hits requires to be from behind, since am kinda slacker 1 mele dps is fine, others ranged dps and have the mele as a master, while others assist,if u gonna pick a healer it doesnt matter really coz u can treat healers as casters where u do not need to be in special position.
as for the second Question, am not really sure but i chosed 5 shamans because its ezier to manage and they look kewl :D, u can do as just fine with anything u chose as long as u can manage the other toons

If you want ease than keyclone is for you when it comes to sending keystrokes and setting up windows.
Mix classes are much more difficult to manage. If they are similar than its not such a big deal.. or as much of one. So a warlock and mage would be easier to manage than say a Rogue and a Priest.
i think having melee toons as your first MBox experiance will be tough but surely anything is doable. The hard part about melee is getting everyone to face the right direction during a shifting battle. When you first engage or run up on a mob you have to time when you stop just right and due to latency the clones might not stop where you want or need them to.

Ok i understand your point guys about too many melee will hurt about positionnal and stuff, i would really love to get druid and rogue leveled since the class i know the most (just sold my dual glaives rogue).
what about doing one rogue-going boomkin instead of feral druid-one resto shammy ?
Note that i dont plan to go in any instances during leveling process just questing and since im eager to try different set up i might try later a "more friendly to use" set up

thats doable, all u need is good management
but i think resto druid elem shaman is better afaik ele shaman can dish out more dps than boomkin at early lvls in addition i dont think u will need a deep resto class, since as u said u not going to instances or anything, so u can bookin and ele as well

Notice in other threads that ppl advice to maybe spec the whole group as dps since most mobs are dying fast:
so it would look like : one combat rogue (main), one boomkin druid, one ele shammy
imo:
pros : 3 dps, only one melee to manage, 2 rez, can heal if things are goind bad.
cons: no tank (dont think it hurt for questing), maybe hard to set up keys for 1st multi boxing.

(just sold my dual glaives rogue). I'm not trying to incite any flaming or hostility I'm simply curious. Do you plan on multi boxing cause its fun or whatever other reason, or to sell your characters?
Regardless of the question above welcome to the world of Boxing :D

*yes, you can just copy/paste the folders, no need to run the installer*
There are several ways to do it - (this list is in order of slowest to fastest according to my personal opinion)
1 install - just run each instance from the same folder
Pros - easy, minimal HDD space, easy updates
cons - some people see slow load times, zoning times, etc
multiple installs on one HDD - each runs from a separate folder
Pros - faster loads, etc
cons - uses lots of HDD space, separate updates for each folder
1 install with symbolic linking to multiple folders (my personal setup)
pros - minimal HDD space, faster load times, etc.
cons - symbolic links can be tricky and use may not be intuititive
multiple installs on multiple hard drives
pros - many consider it to be the fastest method
cons - requires multiple HDDs, uses lots of HDD space (not really an issue since you obviously have multiple HDDs), requires updates to several folders, etc
personally, I have mine setup this way (i'm 5-boxing btw)
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft - Full install - used just for my raiding account since I have my addons just the way i like them
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft1 - Main - Symbolic link to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for Data folder
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft2 - Slave 1 - Symbolic link to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for Data and Main for Interface folder
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft3 - Slave 2 - Symbolic link to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for Data and Main for Interface folder
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft4 - Slave 3 - Symbolic link to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for Data and Main for Interface folder
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft5 - Slave 4 - Symbolic link to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for Data and Main for Interface folder
This gives me the flexibility to raid when I want, minimizes HDD space, and allows a single directory for Addon updates for Multiboxing.
just my opion - feel free to experiment :)

Glamour,
My setup is very similar to yours, except for the vid card - I only have an 8800GT 512. However, I do have 2 separate Hard Drives, the main being a Raptor (quite fast!).
I have 2 monitors, so that's where you and I will differ most. I have my main/brain on 1 of my monitors, settings almost maxed. I have the 4 alts on the 2nd monitor through maximizer, with all minimal settings and few addons.
Main runs out of it's own WoW folder on the Raptor. #2 & #3 run out of their own folder on the Raptor, copy/paste of the main WoW folder minus addons, of course. #3 & #4 run an exact copy of the #2 & #3 on my 2nd Hard Drive.
Everything runs beautifully and stays at 40-60fps on my main with each alt going from min 20 to max 40 (as set in Keyclone). Your machine will handle it all just fine. FYI, I have Vista, so dualview through nvidia control panel works great.
