I can't afford (read gf won't let me buy) an x-keys pro or even desktop... but I happen to have a 7" LCD touchscreen lying around and feel that it would make an excellent input device.

The issues I currently have /forsee are:

Screen mapping, I currently have 3 monitors, 4 with the touchscreen
Focus, pressing on the screen will take focus away from the current wow instance

I am currently running 3 instances on one machine so only have the issue of software broadcasting.

Looking at AHK, this has the capability to respond to clicks within specific ranges and should be able to maintain a variable of which wow instance last had focus, returning focus to that instance once it has responded to the "button" press.

The reason I posted this here is to see if anyone can see any further issues before I pour valuable time and effort into this idea.

I dont know the answer but I do know I wish I had your issue. ^_^

Ok now thinking couldn't you (maybe not you dont know) write software that gave you a gui keylayout you could sector off in a grid layout, with programmable keys?

Okay, first off I have to bust your balls on your first sentence.
"I can't afford (read gf won't let me buy) an x-kyes pro"

GF is NOT equal to WIFE. Don't let the WOman keep you down! ;)

With that being said I was doing some research into a xkeys problem I was having and ran across this program

Build-A-Board
http://www.download.com/Build-A-Board/3000-2110_4-10362553.html

Basically it is a utility for building on-screen keyboards for touch-screen kiosks. I think it is along the lines of what you are looking for but it is not free.

It does point you in the right direction though. They keyword I used when googling it was "on-screen keybaord". Good luck in your search. Make sure to take picts of the finished project and post them here.

Thanks Monkey, will take a look when I get home, our over-zealous perimeter security guys have that site blocked :(

Touchscreens... no tactile feedback. Can't press more than one key at once. Not as durable.

If it is your money, spend it as you choose.
