View Full Version : The most important thing about starting a new team (no, actually favorite team name)

I did some searching for "best team name" "team name" and "favorite team name" and was surprised to not find anything (btw could the search function include a check for "search only in thread titles?)
I'm sure most of you guys agree, even more important than class composition, even more than getting the toons' appearance perfect, even more important than the perfect toon names..
the name of your team is the most important factor when starting a team. :) I got my new memory in last night and hope to get battlechests on the commute and start setting up over the holiday weekend, but I don't have a name yet.
1- What's your favorite team name? or toon name convention?
Personally the ones I love the best from lurking and asking a few questions as I get started are The Daltons and the Zins.
2- If you have a team or teams, what's the story or source of your team name or the toon names you used?
I actually do think a good set of toon names and team name is important, because I have in the past literally not played some alts as much because I didn't like the name over time. I also play my non-RAF baby shaman because her name is a juvenile but obscure joke on the fact that a female shaman in tuxedo pants is entirely prone to cameltoe.
edit: I've gone through so many variants or gimmick team names in my head, currently I'm considering "Fox Force Five" for a group of 4 female draenai shammies who will either pair with a main account pally or shammy to be.

Well my guild name is pretty self explanatory I believe. As for my toons, Draenei are a faction of uncorrupted "Eredar". My intent was to use Eredar and then change the vowels around but it was taken so I went with what I have now.
Edit: My SPriest team which sits at level 10 and probably will for some time are all Draenei as well so the guild tag still fits. I would like to guild them as Shadow Council but I own all 6 tabs in my guild bank and don't really feel like having to manage two banks. Anyhow, their names are variations of the Greek word for Priest.

I just started a few teams this past week to try out different classes; nothing great but this is what I have currently:
<Tribe>
Qtipp, Phifedawg, Shaheed, Bonita, Applebum
(named for my all time favorite band, Tribe Called Quest)
<QQ BBQ>
Ripplechip, Oniondip, Beanies, Weenies
(another band/song reference, any guessers? =)
<Fake Id>
Bourbon, Tequila, Brandi, Vodkette
<Orange and Maroon>
Hokie, Budfoster, (adding more in my next push)
I'm thinking of one more but not sure if I'd get away with it....
<Happy Endings>
Spinner, Fluffer, Shocker, Critlicker
EDIT: I've got a dwarf hunter by the name of Schortbus but not sure what to do with him as far as a team goes though.
My one and only 70 currently is my main, prot pally Talamarr; I guess I could do a <LOL Roleplayers> group =)

That's because, in WoW at least, teams are usually grouped into their own guild. Search again for "guid name" and you'll find quite a few hits :)

True, though on this site everyone talks about their team name moreso than the guild name, though obviously they use a separate guild tag to show their team name.
*wanders off to search* Yep, one short thread about guild names here, though there's a link to a 9-page thread on the official forums with some good ideas mixed in with a lot of the anti-MB feces throwing chimps posting <I'm a loser> type slams. Lot of talk about the Zerg and the Zerglings under "guild name" though. That and guild acceptance of MB.

My names are stuff like:
Yatan, Yatin, Yaton, Yatun, and Yaten
Zatta, Zatti, Zatto, Zattu, and Zatte
Gatta, Gatti, Gatto, Gattu and Gatte

My names all begin with a Z.
Mages get Z*n*
Priests get Z*n*r*
Shaman get Z*rsh*
Warlocks get Z*ln*
I'm not concerned with guilding them right now, or creating clever team names. I'm more than satisfied with interesting toon names that follow a particular convention.

"Playing with myself" is my favorite multiboxer guild name, which is why I picked it for my guild. I'm not happy with my shaman character names atm, mainly because Zthun doesn't fit the scheme. I'll probably name change him later. I do like my warlock team names and the latest one for my mage team. Chugnaruac, Khugnaruac, Xhugnaruac and Zhugnaruac.
When I use to multibox the old fashion way, when I used a keyboard and mouse for each computer I would always name my tag-along characters stuff that would make it nearly impossible to send them tells. Names like Cliiblibh were very common and in fact that name was one of my favorites for a long time. In fact I think I may remake my mage team to Cliiblibh, Cliiblihb,Cliibliibh, Cliibliihb.

I like using foreign (non English) words for common English words. google translator is your friend.

Mine are pretty dumb:
Griefbot (existing pally), Klownfist, Klownface, Klownfoot, Klownfart
My shaman are 65 and I still havent made a guild. Originally I was going to rename Griefbot and make Klown Krew or something, but I think im going to go with <Griefbot's Minion> and leave the pally unguilded so that he runs around with "minions".

All my guys are named after wine grapes. I have a arena team named Grapes Of Wrath. My other arena names are Hurry up and win, and Welfare Epics FTW. My mule toons guild name is The Wine Cellar.

This is classy, funny, AND educational. You get + 10 at something, you decide what.
I lack the creativity to do this for all the toons I have. Quix(SOmething goes here) 20+ times.

I always spend at least an hour or two figuring out toon names before I start... Get the look I want and then spend time on Wiki and other online sources: All of my toon names are generally speaking from a dead language and/or religion. For instance:
Warlocks: Crataeis, Enodia, Antania, and Prytania. They're all different aspect's names of the Greek god Hecate.
Shaman: Aakashi, Bhumi, Apas, Pavan, Ogni. They are the ancient sanskrit words for the classic elements Void, Earth, Water, and Air.
Druids: Uira, Tawhaki, Haikili, Kahai. They are different aspects of the Hawaiian/Polynesian gods of Thunder and Lightning.

I like sitting in Ironforge having my shamans tell each other that they are a good shaman
You're a good shaman.
No YOURE a good shaman
no, YOURE a good shaman.
people get creeped out a bit usually.
I sometimes argue 3 different points in trade chat by myself when bored and waiting for av to pop :P

I created a Priest/Warlockx4 team that I am leveling this weekend with the names Misarii, Miserii, Misirii, Misorii and Misurii. I'm trying to decide between <Loves Company> and <Follows Me>. Thoughts?
As for conversations with myself, I love doing that.

On Bronzebeard here and have a guild named
"Novus Ordo Multiboxorum"
variant on Novus Ordo Seclorum (New Secular Order) or (New Order of the Ages) depending on reference.
I'm 99.99999% confident that the reference is lost on people I meet on the server.

My main toon (which I plan on keeping as a main for raiding) is Rudi. So the girls (Josii, Suzii, Lorii and Trudii) are in the guild 'Rudis Angels'. I do wish I could use an apostrophe in the guild name but... ah well... I'm tempted to replace Rudi with another female toon and put them in a new guild 'Fox Force Five'.
My main is Ghur. I raid with him, but i also multibox it, part of a 3 shaman group.
Ghur is a tauren, and the other 2 are identical trolls. The clones are in a separate guild from my main.
I thought i might have a guild called <Bodyguard> for the clones, so when i'd multibox the toons, i'd have Ghur in the middle, and a Zub on each side with the tag <Bodyguard> . And make them a tuxedo and engineering goggles for when i walk in town ;)
some personal favourites:
<Teenage Mutant Ninja Taurens>
4x cowabonga shamans
<Sapped Cow's Can't Say Moo>
5x Rogue team
DemonWithin
09-05-2008, 05:07 AM
My first character I ever made was called 'demonwithin' and because of sentimental value i always have demon followed by a word for my multibox team names
DemonChain
DemonTorment
DemonAgony
but with this its easy for alliance to organise a target, but that doesnt bother me :)
With an exception with Locks which my Lock team was
ElfenLied
ElfenEvil
ElfenVector
Hachoo

All 5 of my shamans are named "Hachoo" in some way (Hachoo, Haachoo, Hachu, Hachuu, and Hahchoo), so I'm going to create a guild named "Bless You".
4 Troll Hunters:
Grouchø, Harpø, Zeppø and Chicø.

Well, about 12 years ago when internet showed up in this area, games just started hitting the market that could be played on-line, Doom2, duke and so on as time went on. I went with the name "Moon Knight" as a kid I enjoyed comics and I thought the name sounded cool. That name didn't last long as others thought it was cool too. Was always taken or in use. So I had to come up with a new name. So while flipping the pages of a auto parts mag, looking for parts I see these shocks called "Toxic Shocks" and I thought, that sounds pretty cool, hmm how about Toxic Moon? Thus the name was born and i've used it for every on-line game since.
When I started boxing I decided to go with <Toxicmoon's Army> and my toon names are Ztox, Ytox, Atox, etc... Made naming them easy, as i'm not that creative, i've gone with the random name gen for many of my alts. Names are limited too Toxicmoon and Knight storm for names i've come up with lol.
My main shaman that's in my group was named "Jumanjii" I thought that was pretty cool being how it was a troll. I renamed him however so he wouldn't be singled out in my group.

Remember that SNL skit about the trains where they rearranged the letters on their shirts?
You could do something like that such that when you put your characters in a certain order it spells something mundane but in another order it is actually quite /rude to the other faction.
Or you could break up the words in your character names such that half of each name is offensive but when you put them together it is /rude.

With my last group my leader is in my mains raiding guild and the slaves (druids) are in a guild called <Leaders Pet>. Obviously the guild/char isn't actually called "leader", and I really run a completely leaderless/focusless system but for this particular group it's the toon I choose to drive from most of the time.
