View Full Version : Is Multi-boxing easy? Depends on how you play!

I'm sick of people complaining that because I'm a multi-boxer I must be a terrible wow player who cant level the normal way, claiming multi-boxing is "so easy" blah blah blah. I earned my priest and warlock the old fashioned way thank you, but now I'm choosing to expand my experience.
I'd argue that it's fast (from a levelling perspective), but it isn't easy. It brings new challenges to a game we've all played for a long time (like learning to program our macros just right, juggling CC and healing) things that are easy with one person (running an instance) become two or three times as complicated.
Sure you could do the exact same things that you do with one character four times as fast, and then it might be "easy," but I think that every player pushes themselves to go faster and do riskier things. (my druids got kitty form last night, so of course I keep trying to stack them up and dps in cat form. Its ok, you can say "WHY? You IDIOT!". That's how I felt when I had to make two long corpse runs back. But sometimes you just have to try things)
Maybe I'm just a terrible player in denial! What do you think, is multi-boxing "easy"?
Multiboxing vs Solo player content (Overland quests, Grinding) == EZ MODE
Multiboxing vs Group content (ELSE) != EZ MODE
I've look at the progression boundaries, most of us are struggling on heroics, while our single play toons are well into progression. Few Multiboxers have ventured into Kara, and I don't think anyone has it on farm status. If it were easier than single play, we would be farther in progression.
I know when I started, I thought it would be a great way to farm badges... boy was I wrong! Its possible mind you, but its harder than a good, regular group by a wide margin.
But then, you knew that...

Some people will say anything to put you down if you stand out, that's all. I once wore my level 60 PVP gear in a 70 BG when I first came back to WoW, and I got so many hate tells about it. If you stand out, guaranteed that there's a guy who's ready with a quick insult.

Multiboxing is no different than driving a Cadillac XLR. All the mopar, mustang and eurocar rednecks will give you a rash of shit for driving a cadillac. All the burger-flippers will give you shit for spending 65k on a car. All the fat-asses will give you shit for owning a small coupe.
Screw 'em. The good people that drive mopars, mustangs and eurocars will enjoy chatting with you about your experiences because you're a fellow car afficionado, which is kinda like us here on the forums. ;)

Memn hit the nail on the head.
A multiboxer - even a bad one - trivialises pretty much all quests, but it takes genuine skill to "solo" a difficult instance.
The fact is that the MAJORITY of WoW players can't even play a single class / role well, let alone multiple.

I have had people tell me in BG chat to learn how to play a single char, which really non-plussed me the first time I heard it. Ignoring for a moment that playing four elemental shaman in BG is very similar to playing a single shaman, the assumption that someone starts playing wow while multiboxing is pretty far fetched. I know Sam is doing just that as we speak, but then he is the odd one out, isn't he? =]
I share Memn's understanding. For any normal farming or questing, you just dps. In instances you need to tank, dps and heal. That increases complexity and action per minute far beyond anything a player needs to face for a single char.

Once heard on ventrilo... after the guy died to Ragnaros in about a second or less from the tank engaging... anked... died again... and I asked "WTF do you keep earth shocking, the extra agro this early is whats killing you!"
"Earth shock causes extra agro?" (Back when it did.)
The simple fact is I know shaman who don't have any idea which of their totems stack. I've known hundreds of players who don't know how their SINGLE class interacts well with others and how to milk those synergies for all they are worth. Multiboxing, be it single class or mix class, means you have to know the classes involved better than any single player if you aren't going to suck at it.
Yea, you can do quests that are red solo... because you are doing content 3 levels above you with help of 4 people... but the fact is, once you step the game up to content designed for 5 players, it gets really hard, really fast.

Well I got my first hate tells a couple of days ago.
My alliance side team was running round (I'm 3 boxing them at the moment on alliance side) when I saw a lower level 5 boxer.
So I went across to chat to him/her and to point them in the direction of this site if they hadn't already found it (Of course they knew about it).
We were stood near a flightpoint when in comes a 70 lock in Kara gear. "WTF? is this a joke"
Then a few others pipe up - about how it's "Pathetic and fun". (really - it's pathetic that I'm having fun in a game?)
Of course they then question your lack of a life - and that you don't have a girlfriend. ( They are spot on there though - I don't have a girlfriend, which my wife is really glad about :) )
My policy from now on - I will ignore anything apart from references to botting. At which point I will point out it's not botting.
I figure it's a waste of time my trying to educate these people - If umpteen years at school have failed I won't be able to achieve anything in 10 minutes.
