View Full Version : Question about Arena - I'm confused

Sorry but I assure you I have read a lot a bit everywhere, and still confused...
I mean, these guys full S3/4 that remake teams, how does that work so I can understand why they do that...
Imagine I'm 1700 personal rating, I create a new team, so 1500 Team Rating, I put alts lowering it down to 1300 TR (don't care about the alts PR of course) then get my 1.7K guys, they start fighting/winning low rated teams...
Don't know if I'm correct so far...
Every time they beat a team, do they get PR based on TR or on their PR?
My thing is: Either I got it all wrong or this is a major system flaw....
Thanks for help,
Mortah

Ur matched against teams according to ur Personal Rating and not ur Team Rating, so if u disband a team with 2000 personal rating, u will face 2000 rated team even with ur team rating at 1500.
What some ppl do, just to showoff the team rating is making a 5v5 team and sink it to 1200 or 1300 and then rejoin a team of 1800+. Then u'll be queued against low rated teams on a high rated team. So u see, it's ur personal rating that tells who u are: it matches ur opponents, and it tell what gear u can or cant have. U can't buy items with the team rating, but instead with ur personal rating.
Out of curiosity, there was a guy bashing me the other day, saying mb sucks and that i sucked. Hes team rating was 1800+, but with an addon i was able to see that his PR was 1500 with more losses than wins :P PR does in fact tells what kind of player u are, unless ur playing at 5 am :)
Feel free to delete the post if u dont like these things discussed, but, its something thats exists, that blizzard is aware of.
If u have a team member rated 100 lower than ur personal rating, u'll face a team that matches the lowest PR. Correct me if im wrong.

What's your question?
Personal rating is always bound to a specific team.
Personal rating changes are based on the difference between your personal rating and the team rating when you win and lose. Over time, your personal rating will converge on the team rating, regardless of losses and wins.

- because any member of his main team has stop playing so they create a new team with new people
- because they are helping friends
- in most of the top teams: 4 members leave the team and rejoin so they are grouped vs people of 1500 rating (they only get 2-3 points for winning but is a free win and you dont wait long queues)
btw yes, you get points based in your PR (if the difference with the TR is >150 points) but you can rejoin a team on wednesday and raise your PR to >2000 in 4-5 days easily when you are full S4

Ur matched against teams according to ur Personal Rating and not ur Team Rating
I'm fairly certain that this is incorrect.

if its incorrect, wouldnt every single group of 5 players achieve 2000+ by making 1500 and disband them whenever things got difficult ? According to what u think it's correct a 2100 rated player would be matched against a 1500 player because he has a 1500 team :)
U know why a group of 4 players with 2100 rating are matched against a 1500 team? Because they have a 1500 rated player in the team :)
or at least, ur matched against teams according to a match between ur PR and ur TR.
U're matched against teams according to your personal rating only if your personal rating is 150 points below the team rating.

Team with: 2000 TR
Player #1: 2000 PR
Player #2: 2000 PR
Player #3: 2000 PR
Player #4: 2000 PR
Player #5: 1500 PR
Take all 5 players PR and divide it by 5, then you got the rating that you will be facing.
In this case, it will be: 1900, so you will continue to meet teams with 2000 rating.
However, in the following case.. Things look a little different:
Team with: 2000 TR
Player #1: 2000 PR
Player #2: 2000 PR
Player #3: 1500 PR
Player #4: 1500 PR
Player #5: 1500 PR
Here the average is 1700, which means, you will meet teams at 1700 rating (because it's more than 150 lower/higher than the TR)
Hope this helps a little :)

Merujo is correct.
I trade arena teams a bunch. My goal is to get as many games in per week as possible and in the process I play with different healers that make me better all around. When you leave a team, your PR resets to 1500.
People re-roll for various other reasons. Im at the point now that if I beat a team, they dont requeue. 6-7 min wait time for me when everyone else is at 1 min. The whole reason I started Boxing is I wanted to arena more. So I reroll and gear up my friends and get to destroy people. I remember how un-fun it was to be on the recieving end. My lack of morals, self-esteem, and overall lack of respect for people allows me to enjoy this process.
Blizzard's solution for people complaining about how rated teams raping them was to make the que times so long for the higher rated teams that people only play them evey 3 matches or so. I've noticed when I play a team after a long que I'll take 9pts. Then it'll be another 8 mins and I'll get 11 pts. Then I'll play the team they've been playing after another 7 mins and I'll get 4 pts. Then I'll make a mistake against a descent team after playing scrubs and lose 25pts. All that work for -1 pts.
High end arena is frustrating. Teams don't requeue. Wins are rarely worth more than 10 pts. ie. I went 15-3 this week for a rating change of 15pts. Tell me thats not a waste of time. 8min queue + 1min buff wait = 9 min game. 18 games X 9 min = 162 mins. Sound like fun?

According to what u think it's correct a 2100 rated player would be matched against a 1500 player because he has a 1500 team :) I don't quite follow your reasoning. Personal rating is always team-bound, it doesn't transfer between teams.

what i thought was that once u disbanded a team, created a new one and entered it, u would still have ur personal rating. So when u leave a team, ur PR is lost. When u join a team u'll start at 1500, is this correct then ?

You lose your Personal Rating (resets to 1500) when you change teams.
They do this to discourage people with a 2k rating from having to do it all over again. Doesn't really stop the good people when they just want to play.

My god... I never realized it was so freaking broken...
If PR resets when you leavea a team then it's completely pointless... To properly match based off gear, experience and skill they need to do the opposite...
Reset a TEAMS rating when someone joins the team... leave PR in tact. This way bringing someone on just to modify their PR will stop... if the average PR > TR + 100 then matchmake off the PR, this stops full S3/S4 players from being in the entry level brackets, and encourages activity at higher levels of rating...
/sigh.

This is one of the good reasons why there should be bigger battlegroups or atleast make people compete in the arena from evey place in europe/us unless there is distance issues with latency or something?
You wouldnt face the same teams twice in a row (most likley) Wich means creativ setups/strategys would work more overall. There is no point in developing a rare setup when you fight the same people 10 times allwoing them to test your weaknesses.
Is it still possible to sell teams or is that not possible with the new rating system? This was one of the most boring things me and my mates encountered when we did arena and tried to get better. Facing 2 equally geared teams and then 1 very good geared team wich seemed incredible well played to be a fresh team.

At the end of last week (looking at my arena historian), we have a +1, +3, +1, +0, +19, +0, -22 games in one night in the spam of 3 hours. The 19 pt match was against 3 rezzers and a hunter still alive - 40 minutes of trudging through frost aura traps trying to stop rezzes in Bridge Hell Arena - hardly ANY fun.
