Warning: Contains ramblings

Well the unimaginable has happened, I have started multiboxing. I never considered really doing multiboxing until like day before yesterday after me and a friend did the Recruit-a-Friend program so that I could get some new alts. Problem is my friend doesn't play WoW nearly as much as me and so I was sat there twiddling my thumbs wanting to level my new Shaman or Druid but being unable to because you can't party with yourself... then I remembered that thing that people do where they play as like 5 shamans at once. I did some research, got some software and then proceeded to FAIL at multiboxing incredibly hard. I had never done macros before so that was a bit of a proverbial shotgun round to the kneecaps but after 2 days of fiddling with code and changing hotkeys I managed to come up with something that works.

I originally had the Shaman leading with the Druid being held at the back to heal... or at least that was the idea but due to the afformentioned suckage it was more a case of the Shaman leading and the Druid... staring off into space...
Anyhow I started off by binding some spells to the F1-F12 keys (which I had forgotten to unbind on my main) and then died twice before realizing that I need to write a macro for targetting so I did the whole "/target tastybeef" thing for one key and then "/target targettarget" on another so I could press the former for targetting healing and the former then the latter for offensive junk. After about 2-3 hours of talking with a very helpful multiboxer in Hillsbrad in General Chat and much banging my head on the desk I kind of got it to work... it was at this point that having the Shaman lead was a stupid idea since the Shaman was specced Elemental and the Druid was specced Feral and organizing melee combat on the alt seemed like hell. So I had to essentially rewrite everything and now with much more tweaking of that here is my current setup.

I have the Shocks bound to 1-3 on the Numpad and have the macros set so it targets my main and then targets the mains target each time a spell is cast so I don't screw up the targetting. Same for Lightning Bold except it's bound to + on the keyboard. Similar principle for heals except they just target my main on cast. Totems are bound to the F1-F12 keys.

So... yeah, any info on how I am "doing it wrong" and in what way I need to "l2p nub" would be appreciated :D

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, per se, but this may be a helpful hint. Go to our Wiki ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki') and read Ken's Shaman Macros. What I learned from there was to put all of my shocks that I use on one macro. So I do 9 for ES, Shift+9 for FS and Alt+9 for FlameShock. I would advise trying several different targetting methods (focus, non-focus) and a few different schools of thought on what spells do to where and see what suites you. I use the NumberPad only for heal spells because I read that one day and decided to try it.

Have fun and welcome.

Great writing Mr. Gnomercy. Reading this really made my own memories come back from when I started. Thank you.

l2p nubcaekz!

Just kidding. Welcome to the forums! Have you taken a look at the various how-to guides on the wiki? I have a feeling that a read-through will help you out immensely, you're just struggling with the same problems we all struggled with when first starting out. So don't be discouraged, they are all solvable and you'll be melting face soon enough :)

Here's a friendly reminder that multiboxing with several accounts that are not registered in the same name. (Which I imagine is the case with you and your friends account.) Will almost surely result in a permanent ban sooner or later on some or all of the accounts. I strongly advise to make sure all accounts are in your name, and your name only.

Other then that, welcome! As for your questions, the answer is in the first reply, basicly. Stroll through the wiki, if you then stumble on specific problems, can always ask about those ofcourse. In any case, there isn't any "one single way" to multibox, and one of the most fun aspects of multiboxing is finding a process or system that works best for you.

The account is in my name since I was essentially inviting myself, it seemed like fun to get 3x experience.

I will probably get round to if I hit more snags or when I start another set of characters.

Hooray, I make NOSTALGIA

I do the number pad thing because the inflexibility of binding the same key to different abilities (Like Heroic Strike and Smite for example) seems far too inflexible to me. For more than 2 characters I imagine it would be a necessity but since I am only levelling 2 it's fine.

We keep trying to tell you people that resistance is futile. ;)

Welcome to the dark side.

A gold seller hacked my main account and now I have a 72 hours suspension... god damnit... I guess this gives me time to read things.
