I have hosted the guide on my old geocities account.
http://www.geocities.com/ehterritory/guide/index.html

All updates to it will be presented there. On the forum here image size is limited, I am limited to 10k characters per post (reached quote easily), and my formatting is limited. Also it's easier to just put it in html, than to format with forum bbc codes :)

As previously said, excellent guide.

The only thing I'd be picky about is something I've seen in Joana's guide personally - a pathing line perhaps?

a pathing line perhaps?

I shall give it a try.

EDIT: Would you consider this image an improvement over the current one?

:( now I have nothing to laugh about.

Aw :(

As I mentioned, it is just the first installment. I posted it so I could get some suggestions so I don't have to go back and re-do everything later on. I'm working on Ghostlands now, so I'll have 5-22 or so thoroughly covered by the time that is done.

Yeah - That's what I was kinda looking for, but I've blown up the image 2x and put on some small lines around the general kill areas just to enhance the general idea of where it would be. I'm not the best at graphics so I'm sure you could do a better job.

Perhaps arrows would be another good idea? It can get confusing if some pathing overlaps. Really good job so far though, well done!

Well, I actually had to shrink it a bit to fit it on this forum... Any larger and it automatically resized it to what it is now. I'm not sure I want to blow it up... it's supposed to be used as a reference pretty frequently, and does blowing it up make it any more useful? Unless people are having trouble reading it, I may keep it the same size, perhaps with a link to enlarge.

As for the kill-areas, you're probably right about that. I'll make a glow.

About pathing, if you are following the guide with the map, arrows aren't really needed. If you are at (1) and you need to get to (2), it's pretty obvious which way to go. I will try to avoid overlaps.

About the size - I really did find it a lot easier, even if it wasn't the 200% I blew it up to. I'm running at 1280x1024 and I just found it much easier to read when zoomed.

About the pathing - Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm just thinking of if you possibly had much more steps - meaning possibly following the path could be a little confusing.

Just trying to help out and make the guide as newb-friendly as possible.

Make sure you do hinterlands!!! I went from 48-51 in about 3 hours. and I was almost 52 or might have even been 52, if not I was very close. It was insane, every quest but 2 was a easy kill or one drop quest. Insane.

Then I did all ungoro kill quests and then WPL and 4 or 5 in EPL and I was 60.

Been using quest helper, and that has been great. How cool would it be to have a Questhelper - Multiboxer edition going? Lol

Quest helper is great, I use it too. The only thing is that it doesn't tell you where quest givers are, or which quests are best. And occasionally it's not very clear what it wants you to do.

Mendicant - Great job - keep up the good work.Agreed, I love guides for some reason, even if I know the quests and zones, something relaxing about just flowing along a nice punchlist of things to do. Keep up the great work I think many would find the already done, and future installments invaluable.

Possibly. I never used that addon before, but it seems like it would be useful. I still have 2 teams I need to run through those zones, so I could record it then.

Wow. This is amazing.

I know how tedious writing everything you do down can be, so props for that.

I also love how NONE of the collection quests are there (unless i missed something).
I'm sure inevitably a collection quest or two or alot will pop up, but great work and keep it up!

I have 2 locks sitting at level 14. I might just take em to ghostlands and start where the guide does. More info on that later (currently waiting on a battlechest for my 2nd account, its a trial right now)

I've spent 5 hours getting to level 14 (wasting a bunch of time talking and showing off :P), so I'll prolly roll a pally druid or pally lock team and take them through the whole thing, just to see how it works time-wise.

Again, thanks, and keep it up :D

Amazing so far!

Might I add some ideas:

- Add thottbot.com links to your quests... This is much like Joanas guide, and I found I used the links she provided quite often, because sometimes quests are simple for 1 person, and confusing for another.
- Add little side note tips/tricks for confusing parts. ( Example... for a quest that has you picking up some "journal" or something like that, maybe say where it is, like : " The journal is in the far room next to a barrel" ... things like that )
- Add coor'ds ( even though the map is there, coords help too! )
- Word your guides for people who: Are stupid as hell... Never did the quests before... Don't want to read the quest description ( I loved joanas guide because rarely did I have to bother reading the quest description, even for quests I had never done )

Great work! The guides look great so far, if your thinking about doing more past 21, do it!

I'll do that.

EDIT: I just did it... had to trim the header/footer text to keep it under the 10k character post limit :O
I don't like the way the forums add the image next to each link. I think it would be best to find a webpage to host it.

- Add little side note tips/tricks for confusing parts. ( Example... for a quest that has you picking up some "journal" or something like that, maybe say where it is, like : " The journal is in the far room next to a barrel" ... things like that )
I have done that. Any part I think isn't blatantly obvious, I add a little more. If you have any place specifically where you were confused at all, let me know I'll try to add something.

- Add coor'ds ( even though the map is there, coords help too! )
I don't intend to do this, but it seems wougoose and I will be working together: he will be (nothing concrete yet) making TourGuides for each section of the guide, so that should give you exactly coords on your in-game map to make it that much easier.

- Word your guides for people who: Are stupid as hell... Never did the quests before... Don't want to read the quest description ( I loved joanas guide because rarely did I have to bother reading the quest description, even for quests I had never done )

So far I have only mentioned what is absolutely necessary to do for each quest... I'm the same way, I never read descriptions (unless I'm totally lost).

if your thinking about doing more past 21, do it!
Classes are starting tomorrow, so I'll have a little less free time than over the summer, but I'll definitely be continuing the guide as I level my groups. Expect the next section in under a week.

I've actually got a quick question :) I downloaded Tour Guide yesterday bc I saw someone created this wonderful guide for Tour Guide. Now, I've never used TG before, but I love love love it. I got the guide addon from this thread and downloaded it but when I get in game and go to load it, I can't find it... Is there a specific place I'm supposed to extract it to? I mean, other than that WoW/Addons folder?

Thanks! And btw, absolutely terrific guide and I can't wait to see more!! Oh, and maybe Ashenvale might be a good area to go to next? I mean, minus the Satyr Horns quest (it needs to /die lol) the naga heads are a guarenteed drop, and the Ashenvale Hunt quest is super easy, not one you can actually go pick up but if you go and kill the 3 mobs you get things that begin the quest and turn them all in and then turn in a quest for a sta/ap cloak. And even tho the droprate on some of the Warsong Supplies can suck, the blue you get from it is definitely worth it!

Hope that helps a little

Thanks man, that's really encouraging to me :)

Today I messed around with TourGuide. I made a tour for part of Eversong. Entering in certain quests are tricky and I find it sometimes likes to premature advance the tour. In the process, I took a test group through the first part of Eversong, since all my other groups were past that point. I realized that a few parts are clumsy, so I changed the quest order slightly, removed one quest, added another... so that portion should be better than ever.

At this point I'm sort of playing catchup... having to re-write everything in TourGuide. I was on the fence whether or not to actually use it, but I think I'll go with it. The pin-point accuracy of the minimap trumps my map :) Of course I'll still do both versions. Really the formats aren't all the difference since I included every single step in my methodology.

As for new content for the guide: I have 7 groups I am leveling. 4 of them are up to or past the portion I have written so far. Once I get the last three through, I'll be able to start pumping out new material, especially since I only need to get 3 groups to level 23.9 so as to be ready for RAF-bonus-level-boostage... meaning once I get them there I'll have a lot less to "worry" about.

Anyway, it will be worth the wait. Each new portion will be just as good as the last portions I have published, so be patient :D

Hey Mendicant,

I noticed in the thread you had posted that you started messing with TourGuide and were working on Eversong. A few posts up, I had posted a temporary link to the version of TourGuide I was working on. It has all of Eversong done, and I added exact coordinates for completing quests to make it as simple as possible for others to follow. I ran through that section on a new set of characters, and all worked well after I made my final tweaks.

I've created a project on github: http://github.com/wougoose/tourguide

This way, other developers can collaborate and fork it easily if they want to help out. You can also download the fresh version of the addon there by clicking download, renaming the folder to TourGuide after downloading, and extracting to your addons folder. Or, if you so happen to know git (or want to learn), you can install git for windows (http://github.com/guides/using-git-and-github-for-the-windows-for-newbies ) and just pull down the project right into your addons folder. Let me know if you need help and want to learn about git hehe :)

Hopefully you haven't duplicated the effort, as I spent a good few hours learning the TourGuide syntax and getting your guide converted over :)

Also, I am a rails developer at my full time job and would be more than willing to build a nice site for hosting the guide. I was actually planning on starting a project to assist with developing guides, and it looks like this might actually create the need for such a project. I could even go as far as creating an export functionality with would export to a chosen guide to TourGuide. That could potentially save us a few hours...I'll get back to you after some brainstorming.

May I recommend something:

I notice each part has a separate line. It makes it a lot simpler if you combine steps all at the same NPC onto the same line, like this:

02)Go a little north-west and turn in "Delivery To The North Sanct ('http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=8895')um ('http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=8895')" (44.53) ... accept "Malfunction at the West Sanct ('http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=9119')um ('http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=9119')" ( taken from joanas guide )

I have a problem in the guide:

In the 5-12, in the purple path, last 2 lines:

( Talk to Magister Duskwither ('http://thottbot.com/c15951'), turn in quest [L10] "Word from the Spire" ('http://thottbot.com/q8890') for 850xp (at L11)
( Talk to Magister Duskwither ('http://thottbot.com/c15951'), turn in quest [L10] "Abandonded Investigations" ('http://thottbot.com/q8891') for 2550xp (at L11)

Both of those quests arn't accepted until later in the guide? So im pretty much stuck there until it's fixed.

http://www.geocities.com/ehterritory/guide/3_Ashenvale.html

New section added: 21-26 (Ashenvale). Maybe not the _optimal_ place to level, but it should be pretty quick. I haven't had a chance to run a 2nd char through it yet, but I believe it should be okay. The only thing I'm not sure of is that people will ding 26 at the end of it. My paladin is over 1/2 way through 26, but my shamans fell like 1% short . It's all because I decided to cut out the stupid Warsong Scouts quest

It's not fully polished yet. I need to flesh out the "turn in cloth rewards" part... but other than that it's pretty good, other than it only being for 5 levels.

As usual, criticism, suggestions, desired improvement, high praise is welcome :D

I *should* have time tomorrow to make another section, but I can't guarantee anything these days. My schedule is pretty full.

Joanas is still really good. Since RAF is way fast, you can skip the annoying quests, but really only about 1/4 of then are bad long quests.:. And it's a bonus that you can do all the Group: quests in the guide.

Definstely use joanss Outland guide, I used it solo, an he takes you through amazing paths and you wind up at 70 with some great gear already.

Yeah, I know Joana's guide is still good. I was just using that as a comparison to this guide if RAF is a factor in leveling.

This is all based upon whether or not I have enough time, but I plan on using stavos's and iniria's "guide" located on http://stavos.wordpress.com to create tourguide filed to 60. The syntax doesn't look too hard, and I can follow whatever wougoose has already done

I've added the 4th section to the tourguide. Wougooose, can I send it to you so you can update your thing?

I'd really like it if someone gave me feedback...

I finished the Ghostlands tourguide file. I uploaded it with this post. Put it in the tourguide_raf folder in the tourguide addon folder.
(you have to rename it to .lua)

Thanks!
I did the same thing and here is “21_26_Ashenvale”

Great trick making it a .txt file I’ll do that too. I’ll be play testing this as well. I have gone though it twice on paper form so I’m sure its fine. Only thing would be a typo in the TourGuide file.

Also Upas I would like to team up with you and make more TourGuide files to level 60. How far have you gotten with “stavos's and iniria's” I too was thinking the same and take those and make them TourGuide files. I’m still learning TourGuide atm. I hope this “21_26_Ashenvale” works ok for everyone.

I took two teams of five toons to level 60. I will be taking the notes I made during that time and making them into TourGuide files. (I didn’t use a guide after this one.) I used this guide here as their start. Thanks again Mendicant for the great guide. Also thanks to wougoose for getting me into TourGuide. Those 1st files got me hooked. TourGuide is the best “quest & power level” add-on out there. It is the only way to go.

I have from this tread/post alone added TourGuide, TomTom, LightHeaded to my list of add-ons. I still use QuestGuru, QuestAnnouncer, QuestHelper to help me 5 box. With all those add-on I rarely miss something, like a turn in I missed on one toon, I catch it. Oh and I use Multiboxer so all the slave toons pick the same thing I do in my main. However I have to turn it off for those escort quests so each toon gets the pop up box saying accept quest.

Note on the file. I didn’t add the cloth turn ins at the end. . I skipped it. I’m doing so many 5 man teams that I can’t.

Sure! I'd be willing to collaborate.

I started doing the ashenvale part following Stavos's and Iniria's guide, but I can make edits. The next quest zone is in the Barrens at Camp Turajo, then to Thousand Needles. I'm willing to do those parts if you don't want to.

Also, if you have your notes in a form that I can look at, that'd be great.

I've finished guides from the rest of Ghostlands to Thunderbluff. There are now guides from level 1-32. I will continue to work on these as time allows. For levels 21-27, I used ELBAs tourguide file as a basis, but added some quests and a chain in Camp Taurajo.

These haven't been playtested yet, But I'm going to do it myself with a set of 2 new characters. (I've tested up to most of the ghostland guide).

TO use, just place the unzipped folder in the Tourguide addon folder.

The files and there status
21_26_Ashenvale.lua playtested and polished
26_28_Barrens.lua playtested and polished
28_29_Stonetalon Mountains playtested and polished
29_30_Ashenvale playtested and polished
30_33_Thousand Needles Not tested, needs work, also the file really goes to level 48

Over all I need to add in good places to set harth and harth comands. I will also cut up that last file into smaller files. I need to add the last levels 48-60.

This is still a work in progress. I have worked on that last file “30_33_Thousand Needles”. I renamed it “30_49_Big_File” It will take you to level 49. I’ll break it up as I level a new team up thought it. For now I’m working on level 49-60 with my current team. I’ll make a new team and play the whole thing though and finish this project. (And make more improvements I’m sure, lol)

Here is the latest file.

As such, if you are on a PvP server you may get ganked by asshole, life-less, dick-headed, jack-ass, piss-drinking, moronic high-leveled players from the opposing faction.

Excellent guide!

Waiting for 26-60!

OMG the Hintelands was a jackpot of XP. I did 4.5 levels in one night there. And I got the chicken pet, the 14slot bag, and ZF Hammer to boot! (On all 5 toons lol)

Here is the latest build. I broke up that huge file and added the Hintelands file. All that is left is levels 54-60 whoot! I’m thinking 3 more files, Felwood, Un'goro Crater, and Through the Dark Portal. And then I start all over on alliance side!

I suggest the cauldron quests in wpl.

These will get you a few levels very quickly and are sooo easy.

Mendicant, sent you a PM about hosting for your project. Hit me up if you are interested. Hate to see people with good content and nowhere good to host it :P

EDIT: Also, for those of you interested in making this Tourguidable, you should check out Tekkub's Tourguide Recorder http://www.tekkub.net/addons/TourGuide_Recorder

Evidently records your toons actions in tourguide format so that you don't have to code the whole thing manually. Also, it might be good to host a full version of tourguide with the tourguide RAF guides already embedded cause there are a lot of morons out there who won't be able to figure out how to import guides into tourguide.

Awesome, I'll be trying this out this weekend, I'm at 39 at the moment and just finished all Hammerfall quests (well, just the single kill quests, was enough to level up :p)

Guess I'm speaking of future use and guide creations. I believe that the recorder outputs to a file in it's directory. You're gonna have to look around for it. No GUI that I know of.

Awesome - thanks - I started a new team just to try it out - got to level 12 in 3 hours (I died and messed up a bit in the middle) [using Tourguide+lightheaded+tomtom]

2 question/issues

a) the very early scorpion quest (l2 or so) waypoint is wrong/off (it sends back to start instead of up the crest/hill)

b) why do you go get a bunch of quests in the village in durotar to then send ppl to eversong before doing them [or there is some bug?] (won't those quest be grey when/if we get back ?)

My shamans have still thei level 6 spells - I wonder when I get to do the totem quests
(never played a horde shaman before - which is part of the attraction)

Thanks again ! Awesome guide !

When I reinstalled my addons after 3.0 patch - and replaced again the TourGuide_Horde by the content of the zip again - the guide became empty - is there some update needed because of the patch ?
