View Full Version : So...All I want...

I have a simple desire.
I wish to have a shaman follow me, heal me and drop totems.

That is all I want. It does not need to do damage but being able to make it cast a damage spell would be nice.

I suppose I could slide a pc next to the one I play WoW on but I would rather just run them both on the same machine.

What are the realities involved?

How difficult is it for someone with no macro'ing experience to setup autohotkey and do what I am describing?

Edited for: Keep in mind I am not looking for anything that is automatic just that does not require constant tabbing.

I just want to be able to click one button and have the shaman drop totems w, x, y and z. Maybe a bolt here or there...

the problem with doing that on 1 PC is that in order to heal your character, you'd have to alt-tab to the shaman's screen, hit the macro key, and alt tab back. If that doesnt sound annoying to you, then it can easily be done.

There is no way to make it go between instances eh?
Why can you send strokes to another machine but not another instance of WoW?

Well, technically you can with software... but I always recommend against it because its technically against the ToS and you could be banned for it.

You CAN but it is not as elegant and software is not always "real time" - nor is it 100%. Hardware is as close as you are going to get to real time and 100%. The downside is you need another computer.

Or go the software route. I don't suggest it and there is a far greater possibility that Bliz will ban you (it is hard to tell if you are sending keystrokes or you are running a macro, both have to hook into WoW to send information and Bliz doesn't generally like that).

I will just set my old pc up for it then.
Thank you!

If you're going with the 2 PC's, then I highly recommend getting the Logitech Remote Desktop 650 from Newegg.com. They're a wireless keyboard/mouse combo thats $23 each (cheapest I could find) and they have the quality that comes with the name Logitech.

You could try a Nostromo N52 device with one PC. You can program the N52 to send the ALT-TAB sequence to swap to the other screen with your healer, then send the keystrokes you want him to do, then ALT-TAB back to your main character. BUT you have to get used to playing the game with the N52 -- an "acquired taste".

Also, the N52 is not scalable. It is USB so it would take some really elaborate hardware to multicast it - unlike PS/2 which is far far far easier as it is a dedicated protocol.

No reason to buy more than you need but I personally tried the N52 but never actually used it for any length of time.

Consider using Synergy or a dedicated keyboard for each machine if you are only going to two box. You could always purchase a vetra broadcaster but $200 is a bit steep for most people to only send keystrokes.
