I am thinking I should roll one of my shammy as resto spec to try an instance with Resto and to prepare for heroics. My tank now has 490 def and I want to give it a go and get some badges. The question I have is first about the spec and second the gear.

Does anyone have a link to a good resto spec build for boxing, and secondly is it worth it with only +700 healing/damage? I will not be getting any 7000 heals from that I am afraid :)

You don't need a dedicated healer for heroics. Make macros that you bind mixed-style.. so that you can use 1, 2, or 4 shaman to heal.. and the rest do dps.

Specing a dedicated healer is a waste unless you're going 10-man raid.

Specing a dedicated healer is a waste unless you're going 10-man raid.

It's not a waste if you want to try the "non-gimmicky" way of doing heroics -- that is, the "holy trinity" tank, healer, dps style instance-running that most "normal" non-boxer groups do.

As for spec, most of the resto talents are really hard to beat. I usually go 0/0/61 (no joke). This spec ('http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZZEfxtAestId') is solid for PvE. Putting 2 points from Imp reincarnation to fill out Nature's Guardian is your choice -- but NG is more of a PvP talent and imp reincarnation is never taken for the cooldown reduction -- the mana you have when you "pop back up" can make or break a near-wipe.

Your healing is a little low, but what you want to do is find the rank of chain heal that you can spam indefinitely with mana pots and mana tide. Once you reach chain heal rank4, stop downranking -- anything lower than rank4 suffers greatly when it comes to the healing coefficient. Keep ES up at all times and use rank1 healing wave to keep Healing Way up on your tank.
