I have a x3 shammy team at 38 and a x3 lock team at 24 right now. Working on the upgrade to five box. Have some pally/priest & shammy/shammy i am also working on.

Seems the locks really tear it up more than the shammy so far at the same level. Did i play the shammy not as well, do things change at higher levels or do the locks just really destro a bit better leveling than the shammy? The locks can use the imp and sb or i have also taken out the vw and sent the vw in against three different mobs while i dot up all three mobs and then move on to dotting up another mob waiting for the first vw to get back. With the locks it is nonstop wrecking. It takes as long to loot all the corpses.

Maybe some of it has to do with the great mana efficiency locks have.

Shammys were fun for their ability to take out mobs 9 levels higher, but that was really slow and not worth it more than once or twice for fun.

I power lvled to 58 on sham so i don't know that much about easy lvling, but from 58-62 it was a pain. I was undergeard (had good stuff but not BC stuff), I could only kill 3 guys then i would have to drink water, think it took 4 waves of bolts to kill guys. When i got BC it was a little better 3 waves to kill mobs, but still had to rest after every 3 or 4 battles. At 62 it was like night and day. I had all BC gear and water shield. After that i was 2 hitting everything and not running out of mana. Now at 68 i am still 2 hitting stuff and like 1/10 times 1 hitting stuff and have no mana problems when PvE.

Wait until you get felguards to talk about easy.

One thing about locks is that shadow bolt is 2.5 seconds and lightning bolt is 1.5 seconds (I think). So per cast the warlocks are going to be hitting a lot harder. Gear wise, shaman don't really start getting elemental stuff until outland.

Warlocks kind of go through the doldrums from 30-45 but after that the talents start to work together and turn everything into easy mode. Then after a respec into multiple felguards it was crazy how easy everything got.

Locks are all about minimizing downtime, and blowing through multiple mobs at once. Once you hit 30 and get siphon life (assuming you went affliction up to that point) theres no downtime unless your pulling 3-4 mobs at a time with no stop for long periods of time. In my opinion affliciton is the most efficient leveling spec, although 5 boxing felguards will kill mobs really fast, in fact your gonna want to make sure you hit the mobs before the felguards steal the kill.

Shamans don't start getting good till 32+ elemental wise, and lvl 30 for enhancement. Leveling shamans is a little bit slower till outlands. But over all after you get geared Shaman > Warlock a lot more burst dmg. Warlocks/Priest or Warlocks/druids = fun though. You have a mobile dot force ready to kite 34759347534 mobs. Hopefully with pet changes they will be able to do heroics.

My team is 3 locks, 1 spriest 1 prot pally and I recently got "recount" addon to look into their respective perf (the locks are all spec'ed differently, 1 destro, 1 affli 1 demo - 1 has a felhunter out, 1 the sub and 1 the imp (w/ talent for better blood buff,...)

I have a main macro which first puts 1 curse of element, vampiric embrace and different dots on the mob then slower cast stuff on second hit (immolate,...) then shadow bolt/...

I'm quite surprised that recount shows my pally as the top dps most times, with the shadow priest and destro lock second, and the other 2 locks far behind (which could be because I put the "utility"/synergy curses on them, like curse of element)

I usually do mobs 1 by one in 2 or 3 key hits because of pain of targetting (I have to tab with my main; hit F for everybody to target what he targets; then start hitting my dps macro) - I think for non elite mob I should have a different macro with 1 press or maybe 2 and only instant casts to dot and move on and dot again, all in 1 key; I guess tab could work for that as it randomly selects the nearest mob which can be different for different guys

suggestions welcome

ps: we downed ulda last night and it was fun. returning the necklace quest and getting 50k xp just from that with raf was fun too

I'm currently dual-boxing Warlocks (lvl 44) and I use one cast sequence macro on most every trash mob, it refills my life and mana to ~95% after each kill (and I regen the rest between pulls) so it is very efficient for me.

Main is Affliction and Alt is Demonology. Main has felhunter & Alt has VW for tanking.

Main Macro: /castsequence [reset=target] corruption, curse of agony, siphon life, life tap, drain life

Alt Macro: /castsequence [reset=target] corruption, curse of agony, , life tap, drain life

8)Consider that, while leveling, pets generate a LOT more effect than at the later levels. I.e.: it's a false positive. Once your shammy and lock spell damage passes the 5-600 range, the pets become a non-entity in terms of overall damage. The exception is 4+ demon-spec felguards chewing on a caster or rogue. ;)
