View Full Version : Multiboxing in the Outlands ... need some help

Hi
Since my 3 shadow priests hit 61 and I am forced to level them somehow in the Outlands, I have encountered problems I didn't think of before.
Many of the quests are collect 20 of this, and 30 of that .. and thats a hell with 3 chars, even with one it sucks often.
And because from lvl 60 on you dont get the extra xp from invite a friend, the mobs give very low xp (normal xp / 3 )
It feels like forever to make even 10% of needed XP to level up.
So, my question, are there some hints or maybe a walkthrough or a good way without too much pain to multibox the outlands?
Lvl 61 to 70.
Thanks alot.

You can find allot of posts on this subject on these forums.
Try to skip collection quests that don't have followups that are worth your time, gearwise / xpwise (kill quests), check wowhead or a simular site and read the information needed to see if this is okay.
Try to find a buddy healer + tank and destroy instances for the xp gaps you find for not doing all collection quests in a zone.
Relax, and take it easy, outland leveling is allot more work than pre TBC. This is certainly the case if you did the RAF thingy.
These are hints, no walkthrough since there is not yet one. Many use an open guide and skip the collection quests.

Hi
*I just skipped most of the content, and blew through the content without bother to learn to play my class, or see that sometimes multiboxing is actually a shitty grind and now i want to find some easy mode guide*
SanOk perhaps my edit is not entirely fair on you. But this question has been asked several times in the past. The search would tell u as much.
And to actually anwser your question. No there is not, but if you follow most mainstream guides you will still be able to make it to level70 without doing the collection quests and doing 1 or 2 extra instance runs.
That being said. I personally did every single quest in HFP/Zang/Terrokar except 3 in Zangramarsh. Yes even the collection quests, it might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but it sure made me get good XP per area. Cause if you skip 1 single collection quest, u generally miss out on some very nice chains/rewards. (Cursed Talisman comes to mind nice blue chest)
I feel you pain having done 3x priests myself.
Just do every other non-collection quest and only do them if you know the drop rates are OK. (check Questhelper comments)
There is plenty of quests, I didnt run out and I skipped alot. Just quest quest quest - dont get stuck grinding mobs anywhere. Remember things will go quicker when you hit 64 and get in Nagrand.

As you can't just grind instances yourself, I'm afraid there's no magic formula for this.
Do the collection quests with only three characters. It'll help alot. If you're confident in your abilities, try to get a group together for instances. Unfortunately, SPs aren't the most in-demand class for most Outland instances (where humanoid CC is worth more than undead CC), but it's worth a go.
You mentioned RaF. My approach is to take it easy from 60-70 with the teams I have in that range, because I'm not planning to do much of anything until WotLK anyway. I won't be BG/rep grinding, for example.
So I'll be maximising my RaF bonus by simply stopping completely at 60 and creating all the weird teams I ever wanted to create before my 90 day RaF bonus runs out, then I'll take stock of where I am and start pushing whichever teams I feel like pushing to 70 :)

(Cursed Talisman comes to mind nice blue chest)no, it's ok, you could not know that I already have an 70 shadow, not multiboxed, so I think I can play it a bit.
About the content skipping thing, yes, you know, I have every single class (except WLs) 70 and none of them multiboxed for it. Just normal quests or stupid grinding.
It's linked to some pain each time to do the same quests running over and over the whole Outlands, but that's ok, only the collect quests make it a misery I cannot describe.
And if I skip them, I fear to lose too much XP per area and I don't want to be bullyed in stupid grinding, because, like I said, mob XP is low in a three men group.
I have 2 70 shamis on different accounts so I could do maybe some "boosting" in Instances 62-70 ... but I don't know which one is good, if its good at all or just another pain in the ass ...
I only want to avoid that I crawl, stupid like I sometimes am, with that much pain in the ass through the Outlands and after I hear there was a much simpler/nicer/neater/whatever way to do this.
Ok, Thanks for the answers so far, I guess there WILL be some pain in the ass, whatever I try to avoid it *g

As you stated if you skip you will end up having to do all quests in netherstorm/SMV aswell that are no collection quests. But its doable as some already mentioned.
Main problem is that you dont really run a "instancing" team. which 1) doesnt make it intresting for people to take u 2) u cannot solo instances.
All lead up to the conclusion you will HAVE to quest. And in that you got the 2 choice, to collect or not collect :)

ok, thanks, I will try to avoid collect quests where I can an do these I MUST (because of needes follow ups ...)
Maybe I'll write a "how I did it" ... somewhat of a walkthrough if this will work halfways as good as I hope ...
Ok ... some work is waiting for me :D
And vacancy is over after this weekend :( *darn*
Thanks for the hints!

You don't have to skip all collection quests, just skip the ones that have a drop rate of less then 80%. When the drop is 80% or higher it is almost like a kill quest. I remember there are a couple quests in hellfire where you have to kill voids and collect 40 shards, well every voids always drop 1 some drop 2 and some drop 3. When i was 5 boxing i did that quest cause it wasn't a low drop rate, i know that i need to at least kill 200 voids, but i knew the voids where easy kills and they also drop motes of shadow, which a primal shadow (10 motes) go for at least 35g on my server. So i got about 50 motes and made 175g. I collection quest that i did skip even though it wasn't a drop quest was the zep parts omg by the time 3 of my 5 toons got 40 parts i was falling asleep.

I am encountering the same thing right now on my dual-boxing team (warrior and priest). I was loving the RAF bonus all the way to 60 and once that was over it was certainly painful. My advice to you is to stick with it because when you hit 70 it will all have been worth it in the end.
As others have suggested, stay away from collection quests (e.g.: the purified hellboar meat quest, the eel filet quest, etc) that have notoriously bad droprates. Collecting items off the ground can be annoying with multiple characters, but it is easy xp....

Purfied Hellboar Meat
Warbeads (in the revenge quest line)
Diaphous Wings
Eel Filets
Spore Eyes and Tentacles
When u get them u will understand, just avoid them as the plague :p
Rest of the quests are ok

I think that these 2 are the worse, but eel filets has to be the worse collection ever. I did this quest 3 times (solo) and it took me 1 hour+ each time. The worse thing is if someone else is doing the eel quest it takes even longer.
Honestly i want to know what blizzard is thinking when they make the drop rate so low. And some of them don't make any sense why they are not 100% drop rate:

I know I've only stepped through into outlands, and so far I've only had the wood and metal collection quest and the bonechewer blood quest.
The way I'm approaching it is to grind a bit on the collection side of things, then wander off and do a couple of other quests then hit up the collection again. Obviously I have all the really crappy ones but I'm probably going to try and do them all anyway.
It's about cutting up the horrible chunk of collection quests in to more manageable sessions.

There are far worse collection quests. Getting the enchanted sea kelp for "The star, the hand and the heart" (http://thottbot.com/q736) used to take hours... and that's just one item that needs to drop. Seems that they've recently fixed the drop rate though.

the mobs give very low xp (normal xp / 3 ) I'm pretty sure that you get more than that. Keep in mind that leveling 60-70 is designed to take a long time, big group or not. Use the fact that you kill 3x faster to your advantage.

My advice is to do everything until you've replaced most of your gear. In the first evening of outland, I doubled the hps on my team.
Make sure you have everything on free for all loot.
If you're using keyclone, make sure you can switch leaders easily. I'm basically just doing the collect quests 4 times. I switch leaders every time someone fills up.
You really should be able to take things down with little more than a triple mind blast, so the collects should go decently fast. With a 4 man team, I was getting about 200 xp per kill. Not terribly fast, but decent considering how fast I could put them down.
Anyway, at least for hellfire, you should do them to pick up the gear. Going from old gear to outland gear is the biggest jump you'll see until you start replacing things with epics.

sounds good .. have not tryed this before, but, why not ..
maybe it will be leser painfull then
i'll try it
thanks alot
more advices are always welcome ;)
i'm in the same boat as you are +2 more toons and I did ALL quests in HP and now in Zang. I get about 140xp/kill on each toon on a mob that's +1-+2 lvls above me. It sucks to collect but we have quite some time to spare before WOTLK anyway. I'm just enjoying my time in outlands. The collection quests, IMO is more fun than boosting these guys up in 2 batches.
I don't use a quest guide atm but then again I'm so familiar with the place having quested in outlands 6x in the past for my 70 toons.

I'm not gonna be politically correct here....
You've had it as easy as it gets with RAF to get to 60.
You learnt virtually nothing about the class in order to get to 60.
You now face what the average player faces, x3, but with 3x the firepower... well that's not as bad as 3x the collection requirements with 1x the chars.
I did it with 5x players pre any XP nerf 2x already... deal with it... you already had about as many handouts as any player ever had.
P.S. The early adopters of any technology/innovation/bleeding edge type stuff are always bitter when anyone else gets the same for less effort and/or cost... I am no different.

Before i take a collectquest i check Wowhead to see what it leads to so i know that i ain't missing out on something nice. IF it's something nice down the road, i get it, else i skip it unless the droprate is really high.

I am no different. No you're not, but why should you be? We are all people and as I know people, they always are bitter when anyone else gets the same easyer (like in your case)
But also people try to have their way easyer, less effort, less costs, less anything at maximum result. (like in my case)
That's how it always worked and always will ;)
In the beginning ther is much pain, but also satisfaction for reaching something others cannot or did not so far ...
When time emerges, the need of lowering the pain and effort and rising the results will always be present.
Like in my case ;)
I am just a typical human in that point of view :D

Run instances.
I was getting a bit depressed with how long it was taking to level from killing/questing till I ran Ramparts. With rested, 4x level 60's with a level 70 in the group were getting just over 1k exp per kill. Doing both Ramparts and Blood Furnace got me about half a level.

There's nothing wrong with running some Old World instances once you upgrade most of your gear to TBC. I'd guess you could clear parts of DM or Scholo with your crew once you get some new quest rewards or AH blues and the xp will still be decent up through 63 or so, as long as you can kill stuff moderately fast. DE mats also sell well, so you can look at it as making some coin, too.
