I have been using Questhelper for awhile now but i have noticed that it have been hugging my resources, and i want to know if there is any replacement for it.
Now before you all say carbonite, im not looking for a full replacement, im looking for an addon that will show me how far my main and alts are in a quest.

Example:
quest: kill 10 postmen

tooltip over mob:
"normal tooltip infomation"
Alizarin: 2/10
Carmine: 2/10
Bistre: 1/10
Darkcoral: 2/10
Ecru: 2/10

just like the tooltip from Questhelper.
anyone got an suggestion?

CAR-BO-NITE!
CAR-BO-NITE!
CAR-BO-NITE!

lol...I hate sounding like a cheerleader but carbonite quest is simply awesome, takes up drastically fewer resources and has a host of other nifty features (like showing you where other folks are and what quest they're doing).

Lorune - How did you get Backseat Quester so small? Mine takes up 1/2 of my entire screen.

i had the same problem and was about to abandon this after i had search the lua files for any type of command to resize the window and i think i tried all different key combo's.
but...at the lower right corner you can left click and hold to resize it. It works like a window in windows, right lower corner to resize and if you make it "too small" then there is a scrollbar to go up and down in the frame.

I'm using the free version of Carbonite, and I don't see any of the rest of my group's quests or progress on quests.
But I also haven't had much time to play with it.

I'm curious if you can pay for the mod once, and then use it for all accounts? Or do you have to pay for it for each one?

It has the locations where everything exists, which is really the only thing that helps make you more efficient. I use QuestsFu to have it announce quest goal completion and track individual objectives (announces to party chat when major objectives are completed).

FuBar - QuestsFu

If other people in your party are using QuestsFu it'll show you how many of each quest objective they've gathered.

I use backset quester and am pretty happy with it. My only complaint is that occasionally it seems to get out of sync a little bit and scares me (thinking that I forgot to pickup a quest on one of my slaves), but that's pretty rare, most of the time it works great.

The main thing I like about it is I can quickly glance at it and make sure that everybody has the same quests, and that they are all at the same place on said quest.

I bind mine to a key and just toggle it off and on so I can see more quests at once.

Not really a bank buster for the full version. I use the full version on all my toons. I no longer use cartographer, questhelper, mob map, lightheaded, mappy, kos mods, ... to name a few. I haven't had a bug issue yet.

Yeh can increase the performance of questhelper by going into yer alts hit map, upper right hand corner click on it.
It'll still display all the quest info for yer alts on yer main but it'll stop calculating routes for em all.

plus what helps is /qh settings there ones that yeh can reduce how much resources it uses to calculate the routes.
I just end up turning of the route planning thing all together its just easier to look at the map real quick anyways

I decided to drop the 12 bucks on a year's worth of Carbonite and am so far very disappointed. I was previously using Quest-Fu, and QuestHelper and will probably go back to them. Perhaps it's just the pain of learning a new way of doing things (and the fact that Carbonite menu options are in at least three different locations...) but here is what I don't like so far:

- not very multibox friendly yet. I see that party quest options are on the 'wish list' so perhaps by WotLK this will be implemented and I'll try Carbonite again. In the meantime, something like Quest-Fu or Backseat Quester is a necessity (I just installed Backseat but haven't had a chance to test it much yet.)
- waypoint tracking is not as nice as QuestHelper imo. Although the autoroute calcs of QH can get annoying, I do enjoy looking at the big map and seeing where everything is with lines drawn between them. Carbonite apparently can't do route calcs for more than one quest at a time, or at least I haven't found it yet.
- I think it's QH that changes the tooltip of a mob to display whether it drops a needed quest item or not. ie "drops Fel Orc Blood" etc. In any case, Carbonite does not do this.
- it does not appear to track waypoints for quests other party members are on. Worse, it does not highlight Quest Turn-ins for party members on the mini-map so if you are multiboxing you can easily walk right past an NPC that one of your slaves is supposed to talk to for a turn-in.
- Carbonite changes the minimap to show a small view of it's main map. Personally I don't like it at all and prefer the standard mini-map, perhaps modded a bit with Squeenix. My main complaint is probably the fact Carbonite moves all the minimap buttons onto yet another toolbar rather than keeping them circling the minimap itself. Why? Beats me but you can't turn this off without going back to the traditional mini-map altogether.
- Although I thought I had this working yesterday, when I log in now I don't see all the herb and mining nodes on the main map. Looked in the options and played around with what appeared to be relevent settings - no effect. Turned Carbonite main map off by default and reverted back to Blizzard map with Cartographer plugin - ah there they are.

So at this point I had the Carbonite minimap and the main map turned off, and I was unable to track quests of my other toons. Why did I buy this again?

I'm not posting to gripe, just thought I'd put an alternate view of the product out there before others drop their cash on a year's subscription.
