EDIT: All the broken images are fixed, and are hosted here ('http://www.wemultibox.com/forums/album.php?albumid=1') - http://www.wemultibox.com/forums/album.php?albumid=1
EDIT #2: Additional photos (after spring cleaning) are also available at this ('http://dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=8384') thread: http://dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=8384

My boyfriend and I decided to totally upgrade our computer room this past month, replacing old college computers and laptops with brand new computers, monitors, and stands.

Naturally, we took pictures of the whole thing.

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/ups.jpg

The UPS guy ended up delivering a grand total of 24 packages.

His only comment? "So... who's the nerd?"

Can you find me?

All of the inner parts were CAREFULLY unpacked and counted. Everything got here ok -- I <3 newegg.com

Suvega's new computers consisted of 4 identical pcs to add to his existing PC, and I was building 3 identical PCs to add to my existing PC and shuttle PC.

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/assembly1.jpg

You will never know patience until you have to assemble 3 identical acrylic cases. My fingers hurt for days.

And those gloves? Yeah...

As you can see, the gloves didn't last too long. I think I did a pretty good job keeping fingerprints out, too.

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/deathstar.jpg

Suvega's 4 computers were done in half the time as mine, and still look snazzy.

I think they're pretty sexy, no?

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/mages.jpg

Suvega's setup: 3x mages (now lvl62), 1x warrior (lvl 65), 1x priest (lvl 70)

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/ramparts.jpg

Now that he's got a full 5 box setup, he's been starting on instances as well.

http://vboxing.net/blog/media/blogs/images/shamans.jpg

Vyndree's setup: 4x shaman, 1x paladin -- they're now lvl 41
(at the time of this pic, it was 4x shaman, 1x warrior)

Very cool! I have never worked on an acrylic case, but I didn't even think about how much of a pain it would be to keep off the fingerprints!

Awesome, I love how everything came at once. Nice setups.

How much did you spend at newegg on all of that?

Thats AWESOME =)

Show us a shot of your cases all next to each other?

Very awesome setup. I really like the 6th screen I am so tempted to do that myself.

And is this all in the same room?

Bet your electric bill will skyrocket. ;)

I'm jealous though.

Very impressive :) Brings back memories. Except mine did not involve a woman putting together my computer parts with latex (edit: cotton) gloves on.

There WAS a woman involved. But more of a "oh hes doing that thing he does" rather than "our acrylic computer parts, let me put them together with you".

I would guesstimate about 7 - 10k in parts there, give or take the things I can't see (speed of memory, CPUs, etc). Seems like you went for a good middle ground between performance and cost. Which is probably the best place to be unless you want to go crazy. Call me practical but I see no need to do that for a non main computer box though.

Stick those monitors closer together :)

And why Vista? *cringe*

Actually, Suvega was very happy with his "death star" cases. He was able to put his 4 boxes together faster than I could put together the 3 acrylic ones. :P But, I've always wanted one of the acrylic cases, so I figure it was worth the effort.

I'd take a photo of my finished boxes, but I'm still working on the spiderweb of cables in the back of my desk. I'm not as organized as Suvega. :P

The bill ended up being around 8k. Nice guess. :)

We ended up purchasing 8 monitors and 7 computers in total.

They run very smooth for WoW, and are BIG upgrades to the temporary boxes we were using before building these. I was using a higher end gaming laptop, my old college comp that just CRAWLS, and a laptop that didn't even have a decent graphics card. I was actually forced to never walk through any major cities due to the amount of lag I'd get on that laptop -- I'd end up losing my 5th toon who'd just stand there running in place.

Suvega was just 3 boxing his mages up until they hit outland, then hooked up his priest and war -- so he needed the 4 boxes. He was using HIS old college comp and his gaming laptop.

Stick those monitors closer together :)

The gap is actually so I can peek through and watch TV while leveling. ;) It doesn't take much attention to grind through Arathi Highlands. I'm probably going to rearrange once I get to lvl 70 for PvP and all that.

And why Vista? *cringe*

Both Suvega and I work for Microsoft. We get killer discounts on all of their products. ;)

I seriously hate multiboxing with those Vista "Such-and-Such is trying to access your computer. Allow?" windows -- only hardware mice work with those dialogs. It asks for admin access every time I start up fraps, too.

Other than those annoying permissions dialogs, though, Vista's working just fine. :)

Anyway, sometime after work I'll go dig up the specs for all the boxes for anyone interested.

Funny thing, the annoying popups are some of the only things I have been able to remove, which says a lot seeing as I can pick the brains of the students on Computer Science and Engineering line at the Technical University of Denmark (Scandinavian equivalent of MIT if you haven't heard of it).
Of course Linux is far more popular, but still..

Anyway, you're an employee you say? Lets see, Garlic, Silver cross, wooden stakes.. I'll be out in a minute!

I am a bit jealous; you don't happen to have a sister, do you? ;)
Anyways, I assume that you can accomplish a lot more in 10mans with two people playing than a single 10boxer can. I whould love to see videos of your raids.
Have fun, Bunny

...What type of desk you are using cuz it is HOT!!!

They're from IKEA, actually. :P

They're IKEA's office furniture - basically we got two L-shaped desks that each have alot of nice, flat, plain space. You basically buy the table top and legs seperately.

In the past we were just using folding tables. :P Plain and simple. All those fancy shelves just take up perfectly good space. We each have a bookshelf behind our desk for random stuff. Most of the time it's filled with snacks. ;) We get hungry when we raid.

In the last pic of the systems, you have some sort of controller under the X-Keys pro, there is a manual for it on the right side but I can't clearly identify the controller...

Name/Link please?

I've got that one too. ;)

And, IMO, it's better than the Saitek. But that's cuz the Saitek's f-keys are a reach for my teeny little hands. Maybe if you have big beefy man-fingers you could comfortably use it.

I couldn't get the drivers installed properly for the Saitek on Vista. Went back to my n52 on that pc.

The n52te is vaporware as far as I can tell. I have had one pre-ordered since the announcement and just watched it get pushed further and further back. Last update I saw had it listed for March.

Nice setup though. Make sure to get some Folding or SETI searches going on those when your not playing WoW. :D

In my personal experience most females who play WoW are self-centered, crazy chicks who while it seems attractive for a while that they play WoW the rest of their personality is a huge turnoff. Also they cause way too much guild drama or seek too much attention. However, Vyn and Suv's setups kick ass and I'm glad they have a hobby together and hopefully didn't meet because of WoW.

It seems to me that these types of posts, plus the people that yell "OMG VAGINA" when they see/hear a girl kinda pushes the girls that do play to be sarcastic/self centered. By forcing attention on them, of course people attract the girls who want attention because the girls who don't want it are frightened away.

We actually met at Microsoft orientation day, when I was a big Guild Wars PvP junkie and Suvega was into raid leading on WoW.

Both of us were trying to get the other to play the game we liked, and the tables flipped in WoW's favor when Suvega accidentally got a keylogger installed on my new computer and my guild wars account was haxxor'ed. :(

But I agree, many girls who play WoW are playing for the social aspect and not the gaming aspect. Drama queens. They can rip entire guilds apart if they get their grubby hands into it. Most females thrive on drama. I'd argue that female fighting, while typically non physical, is a heck of a lot more violent than a male fistfight.

Suvega

Above and beyond that, she is a very attractive female multiboxer. :P

I'd argue that female fighting, while typically non physical, is a heck of a lot more violent than a male fistfight.True that just watch two men having a barney... broken nose maybe a bruised ego... now watch to women at it... A woman will go straight for those bits of her opponent that will do the most damage, eyes, face, balls (when fighting a man), and hair is a great way to stop the opponent from running away...
I doubt I'm the only one. I hear people in posts mention that their wife/gf is also a multiboxer but they're always so elusive. True I don't know any five boxers personally, only the people on here really, but I know quite a few real females who play WoW (sadly including one like the norm mentioned who directly/indirectly killed two guilds) at least two of the females who play WoW both multi-box, one for sure dual boxes in my main guild on Draenor. The other I last saw running three Shaman, though I have a feeling she quit WoW a while back...

I used to dual-box with my laptop and my (ex)girlfriend's laptop a long time ago while playing wow, but i didn't know about a community such as this that I could go to for information to further enhance my setup (I had no software tools, just good old fashioned pounding on two keyboards). Then I saw a mage run past with 4 shaman pups trailing behind him about a month ago, and I was like, "holy crap, I used to dual box and that was so hard to do, are you really running 5??" and he pointed me here.

Suvega & Vyndree, after seeing this post I immediately registered an account just to say, "Wow. Very impressive."

Now I'm off to creat a 5box setup of my own. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartrazine

Tartrazine (otherwise known as E102 or FD&C Yellow 5) is a synthetic lemon yellow azo dye used as a food coloring. It is derived from coal tar.

Tartrazine appears to cause the most allergic and intolerance reactions of all the azo dyes, particularly among those with an aspirin intolerance and asthmatics.[3] Symptoms from tartrazine sensitivity can occur by either ingestion or cutaneous exposure to a substance containing tartrazine.[citation needed]

A variety of immunologic responses have been attribute to Tartrazine ingestion, including anxiety, migraines, clinical depression, blurred vision, itching, general weakness, heatwaves, feeling of suffocation, purple skin patches, and sleep disturbance.[citation needed] Some claim to experience symptoms of tartrazine sensitivity even at extremely small doses, and up to 72 hours after exposure.[citation needed] In children, asthma attacks and hives in children have been claimed, including supposed links to thyroid tumors, chromosomal damage, hives, and hyperactivity. [4]

The mechanism of sensitivity is obscure and has been called pseudoallergic. The prevalence of tartrazine intolerance is estimated at roughly 360,000 Americans affected, about 0.12% of the general population.[citation needed] According to the FDA, tartrazine causes hives in fewer than 1 in 10,000 people, or 0.01%.[5]

Some researchers have linked tartrazine to childhood Obsessive-compulsive disorder and hyperactivity.[6] A study commissioned by the UK's Food Standards Agency found that when used in a mixture of other colors and preservatives, increased levels of hyperactivity in children were observed.[7]

It is not clear to what extent these problems can be specifically linked to tartrazine in affected individuals. The existence of a sensitivity reaction is well-known, but the existence of more extreme effects remain controversial. The incidence of tartrazine intolerance is fairly low as as indicated above, and there is much controversy about whether tartrazine has ill effects on individuals who are not clearly intolerant.

Total avoidance is the most common way to deal with tartrazine sensitivity,[8] but progress has been made in reducing people’s tartrazine sensitivity in a study of people who are simultaneously sensitive to both aspirin and tartrazine.[9]

like...

Hooters Hot wings (yes the restaraunt) with a canker sore? = Hospital. (Yes that happend, funny story btw).

Basically, it takes a while for the body to metabolize it, and just as long as I TRY to avoid it, I never have any issues. However if I dont' bother, then I start ingesting a lot more then I realize, and after a while I hit the magical limit and feel my mouth starting to swell up.

Ok... So....
Pretext: I had a canqer sore, (harmless open woudn in the mouth, normally from eating really acidic food or soemthing). Actually it was the last one I think I've ever had (4 yrs ago lol).

Was doing some voulenteer work with my dorm floor. Specifically ripping apart lofts for money (then donating hte money to charity). After a week of hard manual labor (and going deaf from hammering shit apart) the person organizing it decided to treat all of the guys to some HOOTERS.

Yes, as in the half nekkid girls wearing booty shorts with tight white t-shirts.

Anyways, so we all go there and order the best thing there is at hooters: Hot Buffalo Wings.

Now these buffalo wings look normal, just Slathered in Hooters special hot sauce, which opon hinesight was extremly ORANGE. (you see wher eI'm getting at).
After chowing down like 20-30 of these suckers we started going back.

I get back to my dorm room, and my mouth feels kinda funny. So I look in the mirror and see ehh looks like someone punched me in the mouth.
Knowing "Ahh crap STUPID HOOTERS", I took a couple of bendedryl and went to bed (as that shit just knocks you out).

Next morning I wake up, and feel really shitty. Take a look inthe mirror and I'm COVERED IN HIVES. Not like, oh look a hive, but FUCKING LEAPORD PRINT BODY. Not even joking. Every part of my skin looked like a leapord.

So I take more benedryl. And sleep some more...

Next morning I wake up and my RIGHT side of my tounge is swollen to fill my entire mouth. LEFT side is fine, RIGHT side is huge.

Thats when I went to the hospital. They throw an IV in my arm, and I lay down as massive amounts of Anti-hystimine is pumped into my bloodstream.

Needless to say I've never been to HOOTERS, THE HOTBED OF SATAN ever again.

Quoting Xzin's post since I think everyone's questions are covered in his post... :P

<img src=', let me put them together with you]

Actually" linkhref=" Suvega was very happy with his "death star" cases. He was able to put his 4 boxes together faster than I could put together the 3 acrylic ones. :P But" linkhref=" I've always wanted one of the acrylic cases, so I figure it was worth the effort.

:)

It asks for admin access every time I start up fraps" linkhref=" too.

Other than those annoying permissions dialogs" linkhref=" though" linkhref=" Vista's working just fine. :)

Anyway, sometime after work I'll go dig up the specs for all the boxes for anyone interested.[/quote" class="wysiwygQuote">[/quote" class="wysiwygQuote">[/quote" class="wysiwygQuote"> Wow, I didnt know such females existed. I always dreamt but those dreams never came true. I ended up with an amazing girl, but she still sees MMOs/computer geekdom almost as another female she has to compete with over my time and attention. Trying to learn how to balance it so I can still continue to play without her getting to jealous. Unfortunately i dont think she has the gaming personality to ever actually seriously play (ie make it past level 10 just to show me she loves me) :S

But alas, I suppose if I were to meet an equally geeked out girl who wanted to multi-box MMOs with me she then would become a clone of myself too similar to me in interests and ideas and then I risk getting stuck in an MMO-geekdom paradox for eternity. ^^

P.S. I work for a MS gold-cert partner in NYC doing consulting on SharePoint :P Hi micorosoft peeps!

Which one?

Suvega and I both have the Xkeys pro ('http://xkeys.com/xkeys/xkpro.php) -- you'll see one on each desk.

I also have one of the Saitek... I guess they're calling it the cyborg ('http://saitek.com/uk/prod/cyborgcommand.htm) now... And I actually prefer the Nostromo N52 ('http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=164714) better since it fits my teeny girl hands more comfortably. For the most part I use neither of these, but I'm planning on putting them into better use for PvP if I ever get serious about it.

Wow I am late to this post.

That is a great setup. I am currently running a max of four off of my main rig unless I need to run five then I will run 3 on my main and 2 on my extra box. When my main box is running I am usually at about 75% of my dual core and about 50% of my RAM (4gigs). I used to run a 6800 all on low, but now I run a 9800GTX+ and I can run on whatever settings I want although I usually only have my main window on max settings.

I am about to convert my downstairs into a massive gaming room (think 6-800sqft loft) since that is where all of the family consoles are at. If I ever start, I will take pictures of the build process.

My wife is not into gaming at all but luckily since I have always been into gaming she understands my obsession. There is always the happy medium of just enough play time though.

OH MY GOD! /hero!!!!!

What did that run you for one set up? and specz?

There are a few changes, but this should be CLOSE to current specs:
http://dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/User:Vyndree#Specs

Intel Core2Duo 2.66 Ghz
2GB RAM
NVidia 7600 GS
(Suvega's 4 "alt" PCs are the same specs as VyndreeA-C with a different case)

We haven't updated any of the "alt" pcs since we bought them -- we invested in Core2Duos knowing that we didn't want to have to crack open those cases again anytime soon. Funny note -- of the 7 NVidia 7600 GS's we bought, every single one died within a month of each other and had to be RMA'ed to NVidia. Literally, every week we'd have a new gcard to mail out. It was about a year after purchase -- from what I understand there was a defect that would show up after a certain amount of use. It was just funny to wake up each morning, cross your fingers, and see which computer failed to post. At least it happened before Wrath hit. We have a couple spare gcards on hand in case we ever have to do that again.

I replaced "Spike" (my old main PC) with a quad core recently. Spike's Mobo decided to kick the bucket and he's always been a PITA, so I retired him to the parts box.

The intial purchasing price for 7 computers and 8 monitors (plus monitor mounts) was about $8k. That's the pictures. We already had Suvega's 30" apple cinema display and I had a spare 19" wide monitor and I had "Cujo", which was a shuttle PC I decided to keep since it was already a dual-core.

Later, I replaced one of my dying 19" widescreens (started to fade) and Suvega got a higher end quad-core PC, and after seeing his quad core I caved and got one for myself. It was a bit over 2k for each of the quad cores.
This is what XFire gleaned from my quad-core system (Suvega has the double version of the gcard -- I'm less of a gcard freak)

Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9650 @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 4094MB RAM
Hard Drive: 300 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Sound Card: Plantronics Audio 650 USB
Speakers/Headphones: Plantronics Audio 650 USB
Keyboard: Microsoft Razer Reclusa
Mouse: Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate

So, in total... $8k + $2k + $2k + existing 30" apple cinema + existing shuttle PC...

Then, if you want to count our networking stuff, keyboards, OS, XKeys, multiplexers, all those little bits and pieces, it's a few hundred more -- prolly at least another $1k.
