View Full Version : 5-boxing "old" instances while leveling?

Hi!

I am currently leveling 5xshaman on alliance side and went to the deadmines yesterday. I wiped at the first boss mainly because I went oom way too soon. I think I should be able to defeat him with slightly different tactics, manapots and exercise.
I am just wondering if it's worth the time? XP/h is way higher if I don't do the instance, since the XP handed out by the DM quests is nice but not as nice as the amount of quest XP I could get while questing instead of being in an instance.

What do you guys think? Should I get some experience in the low level instances or should my toons get some experience outside the instances?

I think you should do them.

Running quests is mostly 1 shotting stuff. but inside instances u really learn how to act with 5 characters, paying attention to healing. mana. targetting. etc etc.

This of course is a personal opinion. I have only been doing instances seriously since lvl50, before that I boosted myself.

There is no doubt you are going to level faster questing, but there is a certain satisfaction to doing the 5 mans yourself, also they help keep you better geared as well. I would say stop to do one every 10 levels, don't do every single one if speed matters to you.

Well, I want to get most of the 90 RaF period, so speed is an issue. Maybe not my main priority, but I don't want to waste too much time, either.
Guess I'll do DMs to finish my quests and then run Shadowfang Keep around lvl 26 to get the robe and belt of Arugal.

I only went into two instances while leveling, both was because I wanted a fresh breeze of change. I went into RFK at level 30 (level 27 instance~) and safe to say I smacked it to pieces with no problems, wouldn't have done it though if it wasn't for the questrewards from the end boss (good shoulders imho). I went into SM to do the kill quest from UC at level 41 and I had no problem killing everything in cathedral at this level, the bosses went down fast and I got 27 k exp for the quest and some nice necklases.

These are the two instances I can recommend you do because both are close to your path from 1-60 and they are not hard, just fun to do and easily accessible.

I did that on my horde team. That's a fairly long instance and Arugal is at the end. But good luck nonetheless.

90 days is a long time. If you're only doing one team then you will have no trouble at all if you spend time doing instances. People are reaching 60 in around 2 days played, so even if you're only getting 10 hours a week played time that is still only 6 weeks, leaving 30 hours you could run instances. And that's a worst case, because none of us spend as little as 10 hours a week playing. ;)

Even with RAF, and perhaps even moreso, some dugeon clears are really great for XP. For example ZF has like 5 or 6 quests all of which can be completed by your whole team in a single run. I'd imagine this'd be like 3 or 4 levels worth of XP for an RAF team.

Also as others have mentioned, if you simply blast through quests you'll be pretty green and inexperienced with dealing with aggro, bosses, totem sequences, healing etc when you finally do get around to doing instances, so I'd recommend you do at least a few to hone your skills.
