View Full Version : Some notes from my first bgs with low level undergeared toons

I have now experienced the fear that a forest of totems can evoke. In AB i was the only guard at mine and the ally only sent one guy in to try and take it three times. Different guys. After that they just stopped coming over.

I am only level 38 and in bad gear i scrapped together just for my leveling needs. It goes fast with RAF. I have three shaman i can run at once with current limits of tech. Electrified, Geologic, and Glacial... you can look them up on shadowcouncil for an lol. I wanted to feel bgs a bit on a multi box and the ring, cape and trinket spots for wsg are kinda nice... if it goes ok.

I have also seen people dismount to attack me... begin to charge... then hesitate. Gives me time to get of CL and a totems if i want or another LB. I was surprised by how well it went. I was in with twinks and i had second highest HKS and KS for horde, i almost had a flag return. I am on a mac so my software is really not that great and i am still figuring out a bunch of stuff. For leveling it works great... but pvp is a whole new thing.

If i am chasing and one gets roots then i have to decide (i can't switch mains fluid yet, but if i could) to leave one behind and try to come back or to all wait. I would probably leave one behind if it was important and i could. I have no bg trinket yet as this is my first boxing and their first time in bg.

I was able to kite a bit with FS and EB totem.

The ally had one really twinked boomkin that could kill all three of us. i noticed he would run in wide circles (moonfire, or wrath for only 1.5 sec) and it made tracking for spells very hard for my clones to target with spells. I did manage to get off both CL and two LB but he foiled one LB and one CL. Nice for him. On my twink lock i have beaten many v 1 before so i know that against twinks its hard, but is there something i am missing about targeting? Follow doesn't have them turn when you very responsively. I know you have a wide angle you can hit from and that is what saved me. Also when melee runs up how do you keep them targeted? What i am trying now is to (obviously) hit them on the way in and then earthbind totem and frostshock kite my boys all facing them again for a LB or a shock and at least one melee swing. Melee when they get in run all crazy like (very smart) and i lose the spell target.

I also learned of the devastation that is the mage arcane explosion on a twink 39 mage for my frail selves. I don't have a spread out macro yet. Also... wow every warrior fears right away, really tuff. WTB UD shaman. Now i see why the UD locks are the pwn for pvp. I also really like the idea in the other thread about the focusless/targetless group for easy switching. Seems really useful especially like when i get stunlocked on what was the main a second ago.

I imagine that i am a bit like an undergeared 70 playing with epic geared folks when i bg with twinks. Even still the CL+LB combo really puts some hurt on even just at x3.

I am used to playing mages/locks and hunters in bg up to now and they have a lot of movement and quick turns and such but with a group like this it seems that all that quick movement is not really that viable. It could also be that i am only an egg learning how to fry.

Even still bg was pretty fun.

Just as a little update. There was a rogue who was loving to kill all of us. Would only unstealth to attack my boys and only when i was engaged with fighting others. Smart really... if not really brave. Then she would emote the hell out of me when i was dead. Using my EB totem and my fire nova x3 + searing x3 + fireshock x3 (maybe one frostshock) + some wackiness = dead rogue + one of my shammy dead as well. Nice to go from all three being down to only one being down. She started looking for other targets. By this time however i would blast her every chance i got. If you pick on me when i am weak, i will learn and will not just look away later.

Oh well. Back to more dying and more learning.

My limited experience with pvp involves 3 things.

1. never leave a man behind - rez them or fight and die within range of the body, that way at least you all go to the same GY when you release. WSG being the exception.
2. totems totems - never get caught without them, especially tremor totems, with your castsequence, you'll have 4 drops, spread your tremors out so they don't drop at the same time, so they don't tick in unison, makes fear break that much faster.
3. charging in isn't your best tactic - let them come to you, gives you time to drop totems, and never be out of range of them, and it's much funnier to just pick people off.
4. Dealing with melee is a different story, basically I drop nova totems and magma totems, then I just heal and let them kill themselves.
