View Full Version : Very odd CPU usage
A few days ago I made a post in software thinking that Keyclone maximizer wasn't working right. This was not the case.
Sometimes, when I open multiple WoW windows only the first one I open will be shown using the cpu. Task manager will show the first at around 50% cpu and the other 4 at 1-2%. This can happen regardless of how the windows are placed, what the settings are, whether the windows overlap, etc. I run all windows on one monitor with one video card. The odd part is that the windows showing no cpu usage work just fine unless I am in combat, at which point something very strange happens.
The framerate drops a bit but nothing major, the mouse pointer moves very slowly and jumps a little like it is stuck in mud, and my keystrokes stop registering. In the first few seconds they just register more slowly but it eventually takes 6-7 presses and 8 or so seconds to get anything to come through, even on the main window. During this, my cpu usage stays around 50%. I just don't get this and if anyone has an idea I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!

What are your WoW process priorities set to? What CPU cores are they running on? What's your MAXFPSBK set to?
What are your WoW process priorities set to? What CPU cores are they running on? What's your MAXFPSBK set to?At first the priorities were set to normal, then I tried it with high, then with realtime. I got the same result each way. I don't have the windows set to any specific core. I have 4 windows with maxfps 20, my main is not limited. Thing is, I have been running all 5 without these problems for a while and even now it doesn't happen all the time.

Try setting all your processes to low priority. I would also see if you can set your 3rd and 4th WoWs affinity to your 2/3 cores, assuming you're running a quad core cpu. If you're running a dual core, you shouldn't need to change the CPU affinity.
See if that helps any.
[edit] Also try setting the process priority on keyclone/octopus/whatever to high as it is the app that needs CPU to effectively process keystrokes/mouseclicks.

This might be a shot in the dark but if you're using mods like Questhelper try disabling all mods on all accounts and then rerun your clients. If nothing changes at least you know your mods aren't adding to the issue.

I had more or less the same problem, what solved it for me was:
/console maxfps and /console maxfpsbk
I also tried to change the cpu affinity around, but it didn't do anything for me at least.

my PC was giving me all kinds of headaches. I couldn't figure it out. I had 6G of RAM and it would boot in Vista x64 very slowly, like 90+ seconds. video perfomance was lousy. closing wow took 40+ seconds. I tried several chkdsk and never found a problem. I also tried several of the vista memory checks and never found a problem. I tried a brand spanking new ATI 4870 video card was less than worthless (slower than the 1800 I replaced ) then finally the machine wouldn't post at all. ;(
I tried changing power supplies.. still no post.
I was feeling very down an for kicks I took out my second bank of ram so I only had 4G of memory in the first bank.
all problems solved! boots in record time 8o . Video card is soooo blazingly fast 8) . closing wow is less than 5 seconds now.
all of my problems for the past 6 months apparently were caused by that second bank of RAM.
so I didn't need a new power supply or a new video card. :whistling: just proper RAM.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've got the weekend to myself which happens pretty much never so I would really like to get this fixed.
The plot thickens: I've figured out that it's not combat that triggers the lag, but is a direct result of how many keys I am pressing and how many windows those presses are being broadcast to. I enter combat and start spamming my dps and heal keys, that's what triggers it. I can get a similar result if I simply spam the crap out of jump, although not as severe. I can get the mouse to jump a little with only one window open simply by holding down any button. However, it only happens with keyclone open. So I guess Keyclone becomes the target once again.
I have disabled all of my addons, cleaned out my case, rolled back my overclocking, stuck an extra fan in there, reinstalled keyclone, tried all kinds of priority settings and it still won't go away. Next up is taking out 2 of 4 memory sticks. This is really frustrating as I thought the problem fixed itself a few days ago, everything was working fine last night and I turn on my comp this afternoon with my gf out of town and it's all gone to hell.
well. After all that no fix. If I hold down any key that is sent to all 5 windows, like Shift, WoW will become unresponsive after a few seconds and the mouse moves really slowly not registering clicks. My cpu is often under 50% along with over a gig of free memory. No idea how to fix it. /wrists

Disclaimer: not saying anything here, don't read between the lines.
I'm curious how your system would perform with other software besides keyclone. If nothing else, it might illuminate some differences in your system.

I know this thread is a bit old but thought I'd post in case anyone finds it in a search like I did when I had this problem.
I could reproduce the system freeze exactly by holding down _any_ key in my main window while moving my mouse left to right. After about 2 seconds the mouse cursor would disappear, the longer I held the key down the longer wow would be frozen after I released the key. Pausing keyclone would stop the problem.
The only thing that fixed it was deleting my WTF/config.wtf file and reconfiguring what I lost with it. I tried changing a few suspect things in my old config.wtf file to no avail - too many settings to try each and every one. I know it sounds strange but something in the config.wtf was causing the freezing when passed through keyclone.
