View Full Version : how do you have your bars arranged?

I had a question about bars and the mods you guys use.
I currently have bongos and I love it... I used it on my main pre-multibox days. My current setup is a shaman/mage/mage and I just hit level 30.
I am finding it difficult every time I train to add skills to my bars and have my shaman skill keybinds to co-exist with a skill I would like to cast the same time on my mage. I am usng ctrl and an alt modifier but just don't have enough room.
How do you guys running multiclasses have it all setup, and do you have modifiers just for certain classes. I was thinking of a shift modifier with just mage skills.... is this a smart way of doing it?

You don't need most skills/spells, half my spells I don't even have on my bars. As a mage, you really only need sheep/nuke/fireblast/AE.
I haven't done any BC instances yet, but I really only use 2 buttons for 95% of my playing (main nuke and heal)

Where do you have your conjure water/food / mana agate / counterspell / blink / frost nova / etc...
Do you not use any of these?

Do you not use any of these?Firstly I'd like to say that im a new dual-boxer(as in 3 days since i RAF'd myself) running a druid/mage combo but I would think as a multiboxer all those spells are situational and you can just alt-tab over to the window and do those things(especially conjure food/water) and blink aint really that necessary UNLESS your running 5xmages...then that could be really crazy...and hurt a bunch heh

Here's my setup. Elili's bars are WAY too big for my taste. Ow.

you're right about the conjure water and blink.. I really don't need them. I am actually specced into arcane and usually run throw down a few totems and start AE everywhere and just heal with my Shaman. This normally works great. I was just wondering how everyone else was setup and what skills they actually use on the slaves. Based on this post it looks like just the main skills are used on slaves...

Bongos is great, I currently use it, but I would strongly advise you to wean yourself from it. I have used them all at one point and all bar mods are the same. Eventually they either quit working or stop being developed. Best case scenario you will be down for a few days once WotLK hits. Just my $.02.
I also agree that you only need a few spells for your toons. I use a mod called Autobar that puts everything useful for every class on it and you can keybind to it. For tanking I only have 1 seal judgment macro, a consecrate button and a holy shield button.

Well if Bongos does lose support and future developement I will switch. This is something I really rely on as I use an N52 and the default bars just won't work for me. I have the button layout just like my key layout on my n52 and from time to time especially with new characters I glance down to make sure I am hitting the right key.
I am at the mercy of third party developers because of all of the addons I have installed... I'm guessing I'm not alone though..

While I am not sure Trinity 2.0 is still being supported - it is the complete answer to your issue. It certainly was for me.
I went a different route. I thought about all the stupid default bindings there are (p for spellbook, c for character pane, etc) and just redesigned all of those to be an easy to remember alt-key combo - then that freed up my keyboard for lots of options. I now have 1-0 mapped to Tanking, while - and = are mapped to things I want my tank and alts to do at the same time (consecrate and Frost Nova for example). I have U/I/O all mapped to my basic offensive abilities and J/K/L mapped to my basic healing.
Of course, then I took it a step further, got an XKeys and went crazy with mapping. I can now move all of my toons independantly without moving the mouse - and all at the same time. I can create and use a Soul Stone in battle, conjure water, create mana gems, use mana gems... all of it with bindings that are easy to get to while I am playing.
My biggest issue has been boss fights. Lots of boss' seem to have a gimmick - and I end up creating some macro (or 2) to deal with that boss. Once the macro is there, I'm set and the boss goes down fast. Do I then delete the macro? No. I put it on a bar slot, name it, and leave it for the next time I do that instance.
I copied over a new instance of wow to test with, installed Trinity 2.0, I'm such a noob I couldn't figure it out, so I deleted that test instance of wow and have been making due with the default bars, but I'm only running one class.

No. I put it on a bar slot, name it, and leave it for the next time I do that instance. There's a wonderful addon that helps with that... IHML -- auto swaps a macro depending on conditionals.
Personally I have 20 buttons on screen that I use with a Saitek Cyborg Command Pad (think n52) -- and give it modifiers, but I use infinibar to give me the modifiers so I don't just have CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, but all the combinations of the 3.
Although the new NO DOWNRANKING change will free up quite a few buttons on my bars T_T

I'm using TrinityBars 2.0 with two button bars. The first is 8x4 and maps 1-6,q-y,a-h,z-n with four left over to map to extra mouse buttons (which in-turn map to NUMPAD keys). The second bar is 3x6 and are mapped to my G15 keys. Since I'm on a mac, I don't use the Logitech driver and use ControllerMate instead. This allows the top four buttons (M1-M3,MR) to be used to switch button pages. This gives me a total of.... *counts on fingers and toes*... 20 bajillion keys.
Of course, then I took it a step further, got an XKeys and went crazy with mapping. I can now move all of my toons independantly without moving the mouse - and all at the same time. I can create and use a Soul Stone in battle, conjure water, create mana gems, use mana gems... all of it with bindings that are easy to get to while I am playing.I'm still considering getting an XKets and I'd like to know how you laid out the group and individual movements and what keybindings you used.

Well, here's my template. Note that the "No-Target AoE" has since changed to add Seed of Corruption for my warlock (I posted that macro in another thread).
Also, a lot of these keys server "double duty" - Alt+"Create Soulstone" actually creates the SS, whereas hitting the button alone applies the SS to my priest (if she is alive) or my Pally Tank (if the priest isn't alive)
F9-F12 are my CC target setup macros (which is why they are right next to the CC). Each of the heal spells is a Flash Heal, unless the modifier below is held (so Shift-Heal Priest casts Renew on the priest).
Ctrl-Warlock Pet attack recalls the pet... things like that.
I could go into my bindings for hours. I really put too much work into it. I litterally created a database in SQL to determine all possible mappings and which were available. With movement you also need to avoid "mapping collision" I decided on Ctrl-Alt-"Key" for movement ... so nothing else uses that combination. I then just did 3x2 sections of the keyboard starting with R for Mage2, and so on:
Ctrl-Alt-:
RTY | FGH
That's mage2's movement (R is Strafe Left, T is move forward, etc)
The warlock is the one that got scrunched - so that is BNM | ,./
For the "All Move" - that is for all clones to move together. That uses the standard arrow keys. Shift-Left/Shift-Right = Strafe, and Ctrl-Up is spread up, Ctrl-Down is spread down etc.
