Although strange at first, I found that unbinding ASD and using only QWE for movement (left strafe, forward, and right strafe) helps alot in both PvP and PvE. I can't think of any time that anyone should actually be backpedalling or keyboard turning on the main characters unless they are controlling all the clones at once (and in that case I use the arrow keys below the home/end/delete/pgup/pgdown part of the keyboard). This has also freed up 6 more hotkeys.

Anyone else use a similar system? Or is there any actual reason to keep the backpedalling button bound? The only reason I can think of is if you are controlling a tanking character, where facing your back to the mobs will probably result in death and/or daze, but if you are using only caster toons is it fine?

since i was used with mouse turning from before wow the first thing i did when i started was to turn it off..

I still use backpedaling on my slaves to adjust them in meele and when i tank since you realy dont want to run with your back at a raid boss...

I still WASD with turns instead of strafes. Q and E, along with everything on the right side of the board is hotkeys. X is still sit, C is still character screen, but the rest are all changed. I don't have strafes bound at all, but guess what, hold mouse view and hit a turn key and guess what, you're strafing. For boxed toons, WASD is do not pass keys, arrows move all.

Backing up is still important and I use it ALL the time when tanking, AOE pally pulling especially. (you take a ton less damage if you walk backwards, camera swivel, so you can see behind you, and keyboard turn to steer backwards through large parts of instances) On my casters or other non-backing up toons, it's still bound, because nothing's weirder and more confusing than different keybinds.

When doing long trips across some of those larger zones with bugger-all flight paths it's nice to be able to take my right hand off the mouse and navigate entirely with the keyboard. This means I can swivel towards the television, someone I'm having a conversation with, or some food. Also backpeddling is sometimes simpler and easier than turning 90 degrees with the mouse, then turning back again one positioned correctly. My WASD works on the main only, and I've got the arrow keys for moving both characters.
