I'd imagine that reporting people a lot might make the GMs annoyed, but if they are legimitate reports, then I think you are fine. If you are reporting just to be mean, when no wrong was done, then you will probably just receive a warning.

I read a blue post once that said that they will NEVER retaliate against a person for reporting someone "wrong". That is, you can report a person for botting 10 billion times and even if they aren't, nobody will yell at you for over-reporting.

That also being said, if you report someone for harassment you will also be investigated for harassment. Context is taken into account so just because someone did something wrong doesn't excuse you from doing something wrong either. That's the only "retaliation" I've heard of coming from reporting someone else -- and in this case, it's kinda justified.

So, as long as you did nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about, report away :) Nobody will yell at you for reporting people.

This is correct, but every time I have to wait on a GM I think of all the frivolous petitions clogging up the queue... it's OK though, hate keeps me warm at night. :)

There's no way a player can find out who reported them for something.

I report trade channel spam ALL the time - it saves me an ignore slot. I don't contribute to the spam by saying "reported" in-channel though.

I report offensive names ALL the time. I don't engage with them though - not even to gloat about how clever (sic) I am that I reported them - it's for the GMs to sort.

I also run SpamMeNot (hooray!) to block gold sellers in ALL channels, and that auto-reports.

In short, if you could get into any trouble by reporting too much I would probably know all about it by now :)

Recently I reported someone who was harassing 2 of my 4 characters. I reported him on those 2 accounts that were harassed, with the same report text. The GM then told me I shouldn't report him twice, because it's taking up unnecessary resources and it's regarded as one and the same incident ... that's quite contradictory to what I heard from other GMs (and I told him that), but the GM was sticking to his story.

just keep in mind GMs are humans and can make errors, I've never heard of it in WoW but in age of conan a number of times the GMs accidently temp-banned the person MAKING the report instead of the other person, lol

I really wish sometimes Blizzard would release 18+ only PVP servers where there were no chat or naming rules, I'd pay extra for it. Sadly Warhammer is also a rated-T game.

Really, it is unnecessary to report them twice. Likely, 2 different GM's are going to get the 2 separate tickets and one of them will investigate and take the appropriate action regarding whatever was reported and the other one will spend their time investigating only to be like "Oh, GM Steve already banhammered this guy. I guesss I just wasted that 5 minutes of my time." That really just makes other tickets wait longer because that GM had to screw around looking into your extra report. You're totally within your rights (and I highly doubt that you would ever get in trouble) to report the guy multiple times, but it's kind of a waste of time for all involved - and you're making other people with other issues wait longer.

For what I view as "minor infractions" I just right click the name and select "report spam" because I don't have the time to wait for a full fledged ticket, and I don't want to get interrupted by a GM whisper in the middle of battle. If they are not whispering my toons, I usually do the report spam from all 5 toons.

I say have realms based off of IQ... lol that would be fun. That would be entertaining, though I wonder how'd they do the testing.

Would high-IQ realms do better or worse at PvE progression? Being good at IQ tests doesn't neccesarily mean you can not stand in the fire.

I'd settle for servers with a captcha that require users to write a coherent sentence.

Maybe a spelling test:
(audio) "spell you"
player: u

I completely understand that, it's just that I read somewhere on the forums where a GM said the opposite.

I imagine that's because it's their job to be answering petitions and they would probably pull a wee bit of boss aggro for telling players not to put petitions in. :)
