View Full Version : Plz, Any feedback on 5xDruid teams?
Hi all,
It's been a good few months since anyone's taked about a 5xDruid team, and i was just wondering if there are any updates.......
With the new Wotlk Ballance spec tallents i've seen for druids, I'm seriously considering trying out a new 5xDruid team. Will probably spec them 1xFeral,3xBoomkins,1+Tree...
And I was just wondering what the community's latest theorycrafting opinion is regarding the potential of this team. I'd apreciate any feedback from the lvl70 folk on the potential of Druids come Wotlk ...
Thx.

I don't have any experience with 5x druid teams, but I have thought a bit about making one.
My guess is that you will find it easiest to level them all balance until 60. Pre-outlands instances frequently do not require a true tank, and when questing having 1 feral/resto will actually be a disadvantage since you'll hardly take damage or need to tank anyway. I can't be sure, but I think a 5x starfire+5xmoonfire opening burst should down most any elite.

Is there anything for druids in WotLK that gives them some way to manage fear?
That's the only thing that put me off a 5xDruid team instead of Shammies. If they have some way to manage fear, I'll be swapping - I've always wanted a Druid team :)

I have a team of Druids to level 42 right now and am still learning them. I can't really answer your question but can share my experience so far.
I went with the Feral tree up until level 40. Mainly because I was 'soft and chewy' and figured I would have a better chance using bear/cat and a lot of melee. The double edged sword of the RAF thing kept my gear in a horrible state. Couldn't keep up with gear and having enough gold for training at the same time. So Feral helped a bit with that.
As soon as I hit 40 I re-rolled my talents to Balance so I could get my boomkin. Wow, what a huge difference! I feel like a Mage with plate armor. :) Most of the time I can one shot (actually 5 shot) with Starfire two levels above me. For elites follow up with moonfire/faerie fire combo on the group of them and go to bear form. I can see how leveling will be a lot quicker now. I think I will just keep them all boomkin until further down the road and go from there. Not sure where I"m heading yet.

I haven't done a group of Druids past 10 but I can tell you that from having a 70 Druid that going Balance is the way to go. Feral suffers a lot of location and other than moonfire, Starfire and Wrath have long casting times so moving around to get the feral in a good position may prove a bit hard.
Keep in mind Moonkin aura doesn't stack though unlike Totem of Wrath.
From my experience putting in a few points into Resto will makes Balance druids decent pre-outlands healers. I never had a problem healing anything up thru Slave Pens with my Balance druid.
You might consider adding a Shaman to the mix for Totem of Wrath and Reinc/OOC rez for wipe protection.
I do <3 my moonkin and I can imagine what it would be like having 5 of them call down Starfire on someone.

Oh and one more thing about having a full party of Druids, they all can fly at 68 and save a buttload of money on flying mounts. Heck with 5 of them with the money you get from questing in Outlands you should be able to easily afford an epic flyer for one of your Druids or another toon. My Druid hit 70 with nearly 3500 gold just from questing and vendor trash and such.
here is the build I suggest: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tcrziIsgu0oZxEc ('http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0tcrziIsgu0oZxEc')

For Wraith this is the Talent selection I would choose for the group: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=0tMrziIsAdhhzRtZfV0u ('http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=0tMrziIsAdhhzRtZfV0u')
Omen of Clarity is going to work on Spells in addition to Melee now so that is a nice talent to be sure to get for Balance.
Intensity along with Dreamstate helps keep you from being an OOMkin.
Nature's Healing and Naturalist are must for if you choose to offheal.

No, Druids didn't gain anything that helps them with fear. At this point, Shaman and undead Priests are the most resilient classes to fear...
I wish more classes were, but as long as that fact remains I don't think anything else is going to be as viable as the Shaman.

I meant to reply to this post sooner, but I've been too busy lately. I wanted to update everyone on my druid team (my first). I've been pushing the 60-70 lately instead of enjoying the instances because my small guild now needs me to fill in for kara runs. Anyway, I've successfully cleared Ramparts, BF, SP and UB. Granted, I was a little high level for those and my tank has been 70 and getting better geared the whole time. So this is my setup...
All boomkin. Maintank is dressed out in PVP gear: high armor + spelldamage. He's an uber threat machine. I go for sandwich breaks in the middle of boss fights when I play him solo. He's the only one who stays in chicken form, because, as you guys know, the aura doesn't stack. So behind him he has the "lowbies" lvl 68's now in tauren form. They're dressed in caster gear, leather and cloth mixes as I've been able to get from quests. Only one farmed piece of equip, the Starlight Gauntlets from Hungerfen as those are end-preraiding gloves with the right gems/enchants. No dedicated healer because a x4 Rejuv can handle trash and a x4 Regrowth can handle bosses.
Worse boss fight so far: BF on Broggok with the 4 waves beforehand. I've never main tanked before and I'm still learning how to get aggro and chickentanks have a big problem with multiple mobs (bears do too, really). When I know I'm gonna have a big group, I simply Barkskin+Hurricane to establish aggro. That gives me enough to keep heals from pulling them (remember my heals are spread out to 4 guys, so each individual heal aggro is relatively small). But Hurricane has a 1 min cd, so with 4 waves, that just sucked. I combat rezzed twice and I still ended the waves with 3 guys all of them with virtually no health and no mana (including the tank). The boss comes out and I pop 2 HOTS before the followers go down and I manage to solo the boss with my geared tank using my own heals, abolish poison and as many pots as I could drink on cd. It just sucked.
My last point is, no lvl 70 instances yet, no heroics yet. I see that healing could become a potential problem in the future because I've got no one spamming heals. So I've still go in the back of my head changing one of them to a tree and creating a castsequence to put in place for heal spamming. We'll see. So far, it's not been needed. I pop those 4 Regrowths and it completely fills my health and then for 18 secs no significant loss. Also, if I lose a mob, I establish aggro first and then an instance x4 Rejuv is all it takes to top that guy off again if the fight isn't over.
The advantage of Chickentank over bear: synergy. They're all just blasting away. If I need to back off on the lowbies, I just switch to click casting for a couple of blasts and then get back into it. Disadvantage: gear. Gear gear gear. I don't know why Blizz has hybrid classes pigeon-holed but it's just so hard finding the right gear for a creative role. My first 70 is a natural male enhancement Shammy... try looking up non-raid melee mail. </end rant> Anyway, luckily the pvp gear is fairly easy to get (easier than raid gear) and does the job perfectly. I put defense/stamina gems into them and he's coming along quite nicely now. There's an excellent website about chickentanking that I've been following like a bible.

That's the update. Probably less than a week I'll hit 70. I'll be doing AC for practice, SLabs for Kara keys. TC also. And as soon as I can scrape up 20k gold, Heroic Sethekk :D
