Hi,

I was thinking about boxing 3 warlocks - anyone have experience with that? I was thinking dots/pets/aoe would be quite nice. Im mainly interested in PvE content and having fun doing this. Whats ya thoughts?

just read some threads before you start a new one =)

4 warlock + 1 priest is used very often as a PvP Combo but you won't make it that far in an instance because you need a tank (your void can't tank heroics)

Well, I kinda read alot of threads, hence the 3 locks, no priest question ;)

Im mainly interested in PvE content

PVE Content = 1 Tank, 1 Healer, 3 Damage

3 x Warlock = lots of soulstones, lots of demons (noone needs except of one imp for the tank), never got problems with your mana (as long as the healer got mana), you can ban elementars or enslave demons

3 x Mage = 3x Sheep, Evocation, Mana Gems
I've seen more human mobs in instances than elementals.
sheeps are more effictive and safer than a succubus.

I'd prefer Fire Mages or if you can handle two damage classes grab yourself a combination of mages and warlocks.

So youd rather do 3 fire mages than 3 locks for "solo" instance running and open PvE, etc.? Not frost for slow effect?

The Question still is..

how do you want to do an instance run without a tank and a healer?

you only want to run through instances where the mobs are grey so you can handle them without getting too much damage (like running through the deadmines when you're level 40)?

you can't handle a heroic elite mob / boss in a heroic instance without a solid tank and a healer class because he will one-hit you or your warlock-demon.

so which PVE Content do you want to handle?
Just questing?

well with 3 warlocks you cannot do any instance of your level or even green for you

I run priest and 4 locks are I still have to heal my group and pets so they aint gonna die. And this is 4 locks, 3 locks is much worse dps.

3x locks are fun for grinding! run around like mad dotting everything... use VWs to get aggro then run around and clean up the mess.

you can do instances at low levels... but not the boss fights at least that is what I have found with DM at 16

one of the problems with a mage or warlock combi in an instance without a tank or healer will be:

- a boss is immune to any slow effects
- a boss is immune to any frost effects which reduce the movement speed
- a boss is immune to any fear effects.
- a boss is immune to any stun effects

most of the bosses are standing between the next passage of an instance.
so you can only clear the trash before the first boss, then turn around and restart the instance.

btw. it's annoying when one of your DDler dies - you can't resurrect him because you don't have a healer class in your party

Hi,

So youre basically saying that 3 locks/mages arent useful for anything else than grinding outside instances? How would throwing a pally + 2 mages/locks in work? And would I be able to do DM etc with only 3? Im not into heroics etc., I just wanna be able to level them in instances. So maybe 3 isnt durable at all.

My 3box team is paladin + 2 mages, it's amazing for PVE, I can easily handle anything my level +2 in multiple pulls of up to 4-5. Check the video's section for details, but I'm 40th now and still loving the trio.

as fursphere already mentioned:

every instance is designed for 5 people in the "standard combination" of 3 x Damage, 1 Healer, 1 Tank.

If you chose to make the instance in a 3 man group then you still need a healer, a tank and got only one space left for a damagedealer.

bosses can't be stunned, slowed etc. so you need someone who will stand at the boss with plate armor, a shield and lots of HP.

second thing is that usually a tank can't heal himself. druid can't switch out of bear form to heal himself cause he ain't got armor when he's in caster form. Paladin don't have that much mana to heal himself when he is protection specced and he needs his mana for his spells to get and keep the aggro. If a Paladin isn't holy specced the heals costs a lot of mana so he won't be able to handle this - he is still a hybrid. He can do everything but he can do best what he is specced to.

So you need a healer.

then you got one problem: only one damagedealer in a triple-boxing group. So you won't have enough damage to get the mobs / boss down until your healer / damagedealer runs out of mana (especially in the instances of BC).

triple boxing is very nice for PvP and questing / grinding but I don't think you can make it very far in the PvE Instance content because blizzard made the instances for a group of 5 people. Sure, you can handle a level 50 instance with 3 level 60 chars but I don't think you will enjoy this because the mobs won't get you that much EXP or useful loot so that it is worth grinding the instance.
