View Full Version : New team started - my first whisper

So I set up my new team last night to take advantage of quicker levelling.

I rolled 3 mages, mainly becuase I've never got a mage past 36 but I like the idea of the playstyle (if not their squishyness).

So I'm running around levelling - have broken out of the gnome starter area and I get my first whisper.

I see the purple writing and think "oh no - here comes the abuse".

The whisper was basically "What software are you using to multibox", and started what was a nice conversation.

I ask him if he knows about Dual-boxing.com and it turns out he's a registered user (I cant remember his username, thought it was something like malarkey but not sure).

It's nice to know you are not alone on a server. :)

I didn't really get many comments until i hit outlands...

I've now got 4 macro's of replies to hit when i get whispered.. Basically which state its multiboxing, not botting.. Not against terms of service, and a few quotes from GMs.. and to feel free and report me to a GM if they wish, who will tell them the same.

After that, people tend to become very interested in what your doing, and be quite good about it..

All I got this week was some dumbass Alliance Pally, who thinks that if you park your team near the chillwind camp flightpoint, set your toons to /AFK, and have BugMeNot set to block duels, that means you spam duels on all 3 toons and run around in circles emoting /chicken for 5 minutes (I was on the phone).

I have had mostly positive /w's from people. I have had a few people in BG whisper me with vulgarities that I've replied with " Thanks, btw, reported x5" or "Sec, need some time to report you ..... x5, k, thanks"

The GM's have been very accomodating with my reports too :D

Oh, one thing to note, try not to use Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V to do your reports, try to customize each a slight amount, one GM said "I think your clone software reported this multiple times" I told him that it wasn't software it was Ctrl-C/V, but I won't use that going forward, I'll personalize 8)

Be sure to /ignore them, if they keep doing it report them -- /duel forces you to target the person who does it, so it screws with your gameplay.

Friday I rolled a new team on a new server (PvE, eastern time zone, low pop) and spent the weekend getting them to 19 (draenai pally, priest, hunter x3). I was ready to deal with the abuse if it came, but not a single person has given me any grief at all. The worst I've gotten is stuff like "lol that's funny" or "five accounts? omg you're insane." But none of it malicious, they just seem genuinely curious. And most of the players I've passed along the way do little more than either stop to watch me for a second and then go about their business, or ignore me altogether. A few have buffed me as they went by.

Along the way I saw a five shaman team (they were 13 when I was level 12, now they're in the low 40s... being boosted through SM I think) and I figured that maybe they've seen this before and so it's no big deal. But so far not an iota of abuse or rancor. Maybe it'll change as I head up in levels but so far it's been surprisingly pleasant.

Since starting I've had 3 whispers - the first I spoke about in the original post.

The last one I got started out with "lol"

I thought uh-oh here we go. Next thing he says was "are you dual boxing"

I said no "tri boxing" and moved my chars apart. The fella said "cool - I love boxing"

In fairness I've been levelling in instances so haven't had much running around, but not a single comment as yet. I daresay I will get it (there are plenty of idiots on the server, you just need to read the trade channel for that), but I have been pleasantly surprised.

This particular team was horde side - so I've had positve response from both factions.

I got a whisper yesterday from a guy who wanted to know how multiboxing was possible and directed him to this site.
Later that day i got another wisper from the same guy saying that he just bought keyclone and was about to start mutliboxing himself :P

Here's a typical one for me

player: wtf
player: all alts or something?
me: I am multiboxing
player: ahhh thought so :P what u doing xD?
me: Just an instance
player: :)
player: gl xD
me: you too

Things like this is so common on Wildhammer (EU). Sad about all that gets heat for boxing.

Yesterday got me the best one yet.

"5 boxing is so overdone"

response:

These are my second set of 5 so I can 10 box the expansion.

his answer:

XD lol, nice

I usually get nice /w though sometimes I do get followed and nagged by usually bored 70s.

Usually when I am dual-boxing no one is the wiser. Once you go to 3 - 5 boxing though the /w get more common.

I was afk in EPL and when I came back I had a bunch of messages in /say saying "ur so dumb" "wats the point" "get a life", etc. I whispered the guy back and said I'm just having fun and wanted to try doing 5-mans by myself at 70. We started talking, he started to think it was kinda cool, and then said he was gonna come check the forums out and look into doing it himself :).

Most of the time I get "lol", "wtf", "reported", "bot", "get a life", "go outside", "cheater"... I think covers about 95% of the tells I get.

I've never had any tells yet, but I've had people follow me around, and pretend to be in my group or follow my lowbies with their mounted characters. Had one guy talk about me in zone chat the other night, and people track me down after that to see it for themselves.

I had my first negative comment while running the team through Stonetalon mountains. Thinking back, I'm not sure which upset her more-- that I was multiboxing, or that I was ignoring her. She does a /say "cheater" which I missed at first and only saw later when I scrolled back. Then she does a /yell cheater cheater pumpkin eater! I kid you not, that is what she yelled. Then when she runs past my team, she stops to make one last comment. "la,e" she types, then corrects herself. "lame*" I really think it bugged her that I didn't respond, but from the time I logged on to the time that I ran into her, I had another half dozen or so comments, all of them either neutral or supportive. This included one person asking about the team and if I planned to use them as an arena team.

Not surprisingly, the one negative person was unguilded. Who wants an uptight dickwad in their guild?

Yknow I've been getting whispers asking what software I was using to multibox too lately...makes me wonder if it's a new GM procedure to catch the botters vs the boxers lol

but explain myself if they start out nicely hehe :P

I dont really get to many negative whispers, and as far as i know im the only boxer on my server, most of the time its people asking what im doing and how im doing it.

Even sitting outside the Ironforge AH one day people didnt really give a damn.

I started again to take advantage of the recruit a friend promotion and also to head into 4 boxing so well see now if anyone else notices.

Maybe its just the advantage of playing on an Aussie Realm.

Got a gazzilion people yelling and screaming like a little kid who sees someone has something they don't have in pre-TBC content.
It was toned down a lot when I went into outlands.
But as soon as I hit 70 last night it started again, not as bad as it was before lvl 60 tho, but still.
I guess the flying mounts trigger the jeaulousy once again.

Last night I got a person asking me how I wasn't banned yet,
not that he minded me boxing, but he was just curious
so I explained it, linked this site and he was like "oh cool".

Most hate usually comes from pvp-focused people and non lvl 70s from my experience.

Had my first whisper yesterday.... short but sweet - "LAME LOSER F**K"

I replied politely and got chatting to the guy, explained that the setup had only cost me £10 as the other accounts were all trials and I was just experimenting. I linked him to here and he said he would have a look.

Always makes me laugh that people treat things they do not understand with hostility, but as soon as they know the score, it is all fine and a great idea.

The interesting part is that the people who QQ on the forums always talk about being "in the majority." My experience would tell otherwise. A fair number of people think it's cool. The largest number of people don't seem to care. A very small number don't like it.

People who are against multiboxing are a decided minority as far as I can tell. They can try to comfort themselves by claiming to represent the majority, but experience tells otherwise.

As for responses, I will not respond to anyone who makes negative remarks. The only exception would be if they threaten to report me, and my reply will always be very simple-- "go right ahead." I will chat with people who are genuinely curious, but I am not going to risk wasting my time with someone who will chat for hours and not change his mind. I am under no obligation to waste my time just to deal with them, the rules are in my favor, after all.

I tend to tell people I'm using "software called Keyclone, which broadcasts keystrokes from one client to the other four! It's pretty cool!" before they have a chance to wonder what evil hacks I'm running. Though it's probably not necessary, the denizens of Horde side Lightbringer tend to be incredibly cool about multiboxing. Since I started my current team (using proper multiboxer naming conventions this time, dontchaknow), I get at least a whisper or /say each session, which often turns into a short conversation involving me pimping Keyclone and them promising to check out the forums. :)

I'm trying to think ... I'm pretty sure the closest thing to a negative comment I've gotten in two months multiboxing was a dude letting me know that it was against the ToS and I could get banned for it, so I should be careful, but good luck anyway, looks like fun. *shrug*

It was weird when i rerolled onto akama. i didn't know there were 3 other multiboxers on there :} so instead of getting hate whispers. i tend to get a "Oh god another one". or "Are you Firstrock??" 2 or 3 times a day X_X.

id rather have hate whispers. they amuse me. and i can be creative with responses.

no kidding, I got those too plus, "Gold Farmer", "Account Seller", "Chinese Farmer Reported", one time I had a character on the Trade Channel yelling, I found 4 bots, they look the same, move at the same time, dress the same, reported. Which stir up entire talk about "No life", "South Park Fat Guy"..... etc I just sat there and laugh.

First post here :) I am dual boxing right now, I got a 3rd account on the RAF program, and I am working up a Pally and Druid. Got my first tell last night, accused me of "gliding". My response was, "2 computers and keyboards plus follow, are a wonderful thing". They kept telling me that I was botting lol. I must have an advanced bot, it can reply to foolish tells :)

Hopefully this will be the worst I get, but I doubt it.

I've still only gotten that one negative comment. Last night while questing in the Zoram Strand, a lvl 33 elf warrior asked me "how are you doing that?" So I explained "five accounts and software to allow me to broadcast keystrokes to each account." I figured his next comment would be something like "isn't that an exploit?" But instead he just kept asking questions about how it worked and seemed to be genuinely curious. As before, most people who see me just ignore me. I am considering doing as others have, and speak with a GM to let them know that I am multiboxing in case people decide to report my accounts. But there is at least one other multiboxer on the server and so it may already be something familiar to them. Never hurts to be sure though.

I think this is true. I also think that the people who bitch and moan, constantly, are probably unhappy people in the first place. There are trolls on all servers. They should be pittied.

I've been running a fair amount of SM lately, and on the weekends at least, this is a busy spot for horde and alliance. About once a day I will get someone who doesn't understand what I do. I try to ignore most tells positive or negative. Sometimes someone will buff all five toons and I will say "TY!" and this gets the ball rolling. I tried taking my team to ZF and got to the entrance and found an alliance 70 (my team is 39 and horde), he could of cleaned up. Instead he waved at me and bowed. Thought that was cool.

I've had quite a few people run past and say "Cheater". Got some level 14 trying to convince me it was against the rules and saying I was cheating. But the ones that really get on my nerves is where someone is asking you friendly questions about it and some noob joins in the /s telling the other person it's a hack and making people believe it's against the rules :/ .

So I'm running around UC and finally got a whisper about being reported. I was so excited to chat with a GM but none contacted me. If you want to just chat with them to let them know you are multiboxing how do you go about doing that? Not sure if there's a ticket type to just chat with them.

I am currently to my knowledege the only boxer on my server (Aggramar) and I get almost zero hate. Most people think its cool but there are a few out there that try and report me. Ive always just replied "boxing is legal feel free to report me" followed by " also btw lol @ you. If you think im doing something illegal that gets me reported all the time, why am I not already banned?" Then /ignore
