so I have installed windows vista home premium and drivers for my nvidia geforce 8800 gtx.
I have found out that nvidia control panel for vista doesnt have horizontal/vertical span
also I cant run fullscreen WoW wide-screen
there are small wide-screen resolutions like 1300x700 which work only windowed. But I want my good old full-screen 3200x1200. Any ideas how to fix it or I am doomed?

Powerstrip might be able to help... not sure if there is a vista compatible version out there but it lets you create monitor drivers for just about any resolution.
Wow picks up resolutions from the drivers so I was able to create a driver form my LCD at 1377 x 1020 (wierd Hitachi native res) this is then available in WOW.
you might need to go fullscreen and use wow-maximizer to window it

Doomed until nVidia puts support back in their drivers for this (if?).
Or you could purchase a matrox doubleplay...

Or stop beta testing Vista for Microsoft and install a functional operating system.
*lol*
made my day...
I'm still thinking the same... using vista = be an unpaid beta tester for M$

Ok, lets clarify this - this is NOT an OS shortcoming. The OS has NEVER supported this feature. The DRIVERS produced by nVidia do not support this option.
If you are going to bitch about Vista, bitch about UAC, bitch about overhead of Aero, bitch about how the indexed search isn't all that amazing... but don't bitch at MS about someone elses software...
That just makes you look ignorant.

Case 1 - The Developer of the software made it work.
Case 2 - The Developer of the software did NOT make it work.
Both cases - WinXP or Vista load a driver from the manufacturer.
I can't really think of some way to make this easier for someone to understand. I am NOT defending Vista, I'm simply stating that if you want to badmouth it, Vista isn't who you need to badmouth.
Is it Microsofts fault that a user can record a video in WoW without any extra software on a Mac, but not on Windows XP or Vista?

Neither Vista nor NVidia is to blame for any broken features here. This is not a bug. It is simply an unsupported feature on Vista. And let's be honest: the spirit of fursphere's comment about beta testing vista was funny and largely relevant considering how much of the Vista APIs are still undocumented.
Really, though, was it such a terrible thing that it warranted calling someone ignorant?
[edit] Also, from the NVidia FAQ (http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_faq.html):
Q: Are there Control Panel features that were available under Windows XP that are no longer available on Windows Vista?
A. There are some Windows XP features that will no longer be available on Windows Vista due to changes in the core operating system. These features are:
* Horizontal and Vertical desktop span multi-monitor modes (note: Dual View and Clone mode display options are still available)
* NVKeystone display correction
* Full screen video mirror
* Video zoom

I use Microsoft products daily not many of us don’t. That said, a couple people here attempted a bit if humor and I think it was taken out of context.
Over an operating system? I really am surrounded by geeks. My kind of place :D
